Salem's proposed armory would be about twice the size of the Medford structure and the auditorium would be about SO per cent larger. A meeting is planned for this week, at which a recommendation for the armory will be presented to Salem civic leaders. A SLIMY PART Hollywood (U.R) Actress Dorothy McGuire admits she did not like some parts of her role in "Old Yeller" even a little bit. She said Friday that as the moth er of two boys she has to pick up toads, frogs and lizards in the film. Rate Increase Listed For Nursing Homes Portland (U.R) An increase amounting to about 20 per cent in maximum rates for nursing homes and homes for the aged were announced here Friday at a meeting of the Oregon State Welfare commission. The rates will go into effect Monday and the commission said all necessary clearance had been made to provide for the increases. Adults will be contacted through personal letters to join the estimated 700 present mem bers of the clinic. These mem bers will receive the 1957 spring newsletter of current happenings in the association and the clinic it sponsors. Current Medford members, totaling about 288, will be asked to renew their memberships. Affiliated With UMC As a partner of the United Medford Crusade, the association cooperates with that drive in Medford during September and October, and delays its local membership campaign until spring. Residents outside of the area of the United Medford Cru sade are contacted for member ship during the fall. Grange Eagl Point Grang The third and fourth degrees will be presented at the April 2 meeting of the Eagle Point Grange The Eagle Point degree team will put on the work. Any Grange having candidates ready for these degrees are invited to bring them. The Eagle Point Home Eco nomics club met March 27 at the home of Mrs. Ruby Stowell with Mrs. Glen Waddell as co-hostess. There were 21 members present and one guest, Mrs. Lillian Weid man of Central Point. Mrs. Ray Ragsdale was asked to bring souvenirs of their re cent trip to Mexico, to put on the display table at the next meeting of the Eagle Point Grange. The club decided to save cof fee bands to get another coffee percolator for use in the Grange kitchen. Mrs. Jake Brown was elected to have charge of this. Mrs. Ed Hayes announced the series of meetings to be held at the Grange hall starting April 4, sponsored by the Home Ex tension. These meetings will be on family business and law and speakers will be furnished by the Jackson County Bar Associa tion, and will start at 7:30 p.m. with refreshments to follow. Everyone is invited. The meeting clow with a pro gram of group singing and a game on spring flowers led by Mrs. Lester Wertz. Services of the Southern Ore gon Child Guidance Clinic asso ciation include study and treat ment of emotionally disturbed children and their parents, con sultation sharing with other pro fessional groups and educational programs to further the under standing of human needs and re lationships, child development and wholesome family living. These activities are coordi nated by the board of directors. The present 21 directors are Mrs. Carl Wimberly Jr., Medford, president; Dr. Brandt Bartels, Medford, vice president; Mrs. John Bohnert, Central Point, sec retary; John Graff, Medford, treasurer; Mrs. Earl Lawson, Medford, representative to Unit- Man Arrested for Planning Poison Yreka '(U.R) Police have ar rested a Dorris, Calif., grocer for allegedly planning to poison a neighbor in hopes of marrying the man's wife. Siskiyou County Sheriff Al Cottar said he arrested Robert S. Smith, a widower Friday, when he returned from Klamath Falls, Ore., where he bought a bottle of strychnine and a pair of rubber gloves. The arrest was based mainly on a lengthy wire recording of a conversation between Smith and an unidentifed witness, Cot tar said, in which Smith dis cussed his plans to murder Corn elio Delia Bona, 52. The sheriff said last Thanks giving someone had put iodine in Delia Bona's wine. He said that recently, the wit ness told officers Smith had ad mitted wanting to "get rid" of Delia Bona. The sheriff then installed a wire recording ma chine in the witness' home. Cottar said Smith flatly denied planning to kill his neighbor but admitted suggesting marriage to Mrs. Delia Bona after the death of his own wife, some four months ago. WITHDRAWS PLANS Los Aiigeles (U.R) Dr. Wendell G. Hendricks and his wife. Danielson. assistant psychiatrist, mental health sec tion, state board of health, whose time is allocated to the clinic one day weekly. Miss Marv Van. denberg, MSW, is the full-time staff member who coordinates me clinic s services as well as works in all three programs. Dr. Harold Dickman, clinical psy chologist, comes to Medford day monthly tn Hn snerialireri personality testing for diagnostic siuaies. Psychometric tests done bv lo. cal school personnel are used by the clinic in cooperation with tne schools. The clinic is housed in room 307 of the Leverette building in Medford. Funds Obtained Although a small amount of the financial income is gained through individual membership dues of two dollars for the clin ic's budget, the main support comes from an informed mem bership. Thus, members can be interpreters of the clinic's work in their own communities and of their communities' needs to the clinic board. Members not only receive quarterly newsletters about the clinic, but are also invited to attend the annual edu cational and business meeting. The 1957 annual -meeting will be held Thursday, April 25, in the Hedrick Junior High school cafeteria. Dr. Brock Chisholm, international figure in psychia try and philosophy, will speak about "Growing Up in a New Kind of World." The annual meeting will be open to the public. Reservations for the din ner, to be served at 6:30 p.m.. may be obtained for $1.50. S. Judge Gus Solomon in an opinion denied a total of $300,000 damages claimed by the estates of the three men, who were drowned in a tugboat sink ing below the dam spillway while surveying the cofferdam for the government..
