Pictures of members of the 1937 class end of teachers and coaches became
decorations for the reunion held by the class at Rogue Valley Country club
March 23. The face of Head Coach Bill Bowermon, who was forced to
decline an invitation to speak for the dinner, because of University of Ore
gon commitments, is framed here by Mrs. E. Nolan Haugen (at left), the
former Betty Mae Childress who came from Portland, and Mrs. Leo Hoag
(Edith Whillock), Prospect. Mrs. Hoag was valedictorian of the class. Mrs.
Haugen, a nurse, is operating room supervisor for the Veterans' Adminis
tration hospital in Vancouver, Wash.

It was a time for glad smiles, warm handclasps and nostalgia when mem
bers of the 1937 graduating class of Medford High school met March 23
at Rogue Valley Country club for a reunion dinner. Some greeted class
mates they had not seen in the 20 years since graduation night. Many of
the graduates still live in the Rogue valley others are scattered to distant
parts of the world. Here W. D. "Dick" Woodcock (at left), Medford, who was .
class president, talks with Emory Culbertson, class treasurer who came from
Beverly Hills, Calif., for the event, and Warren Bayliss, Medford, who had
been class vice-president. Grace Turnquist, class secretary, was not present.

The idea for the reunion started with Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Morris, pictured
here with Mr. Woodcock (center), who served as master of ceremonies for
the program. Mrs. Morris, the former Janice Shreve, at first thought the
party couid be held in the Morris home, but it was soon discovered lhat it
would be too large an event. The Morrises served as general chairmen of
arrangements, and were assisted by Mrs. Don Whalin, the former Lois
Herman, Mrs. John G. Crawford (Janet Mann), and Mr. and Mrs. Don Root.
It wouldn't be a class reunion without songs and hilarity, and during the
20-year gathering of Medford High school's class of 1937 "the boys" broke
out in song every now and then. Sometimes it was "On Medford" and some
times it was less traditional numbers. Among the vocalists were (left to
right) Martin Luther Jr., Floyd Baker and Sam Richardson, all of whom still
live in Medford. Each graduate wore a name tag made by the committee
and bearing his picture taken from the pages of The Crater, Medford High
school annual. Tags for the women were lettered with both their maiden
$ and married names. '
During the evening Clyde Taylor (at left) Medford, won a prize for the
youngest child, a 10-day old infant; the former Ruth True, now Mrs. H. R.
Anderson of Imperial Beach, Calif., won a prize for traveling the longest
distance;' Mrs. John G. Crawford, (Janet Mann), Medford, mother of five
children, received a prize for the largest family and Mrs. Milton Sanderson,
(Evelyn Alexander) Sams Valley, won prizes for the oldest child and for
having been married the longest time.

Just for old times sake, men of the MHS 1937 class who had played football lined up at the reunion turning

Paddle in hand, Ardo Stocks who was Medford High school student body president for the year 1936-37, smiles on

business manager; Mrs. Floyd Baker, the former Peggy Reter who was student body secretary; Jim Bayliss, student
body vice-presWent, and Mrs. Don Porterfield, Tulelake, Calif., the former Frankie Rinabarger who was yell leader.
The Bakers and Mr. Thierolf decorated the Country club dining room for the reunion, borrowing the stuffed tiger
pictured here from the Boyliss children. They even contrived a "tornado" of red and black crepe paper, and the
shadow boxes at either side of the orchestra platform held football jerseys, one lettered 1937 and the other 1957.
This was the first reunion ever held by a Medford High school class.
