Wally Larson, state hurdle champ, and Mike Russell, quar-ter-miler were reported looking terrific and Newland said that 'SPORTS' il lj Van Denies Placing Bet Portland (U.PJ Quarter back Norman Van Brocklin of th Los Angeles Rams said to day that apparently someone has 3ised his name in Los Angeles to place bets on horse races. Van Brocklin said he had a telephone conversation with a mart Wednesday who claimed the pro football star owed $700 on bets placed over a four-day period. Van Brocklin said he reported the incident immediately to Sid Gilman, coach of the Rams. He denied placing any bets. The former University of Ore gon star, who is in business here during the off season, said Bert Bell, national football league commissioner, is investigating the case. He denied that he "ever bet on a horse race or any sporting event."
