O ea r Philoiophy Group Initiates Student Salem Phi Sigma Tau, phi losophy honorary on the Wil lamette university campus, ini tiated Stan Culy, Medford; Gail Sandine, North Bend and David Steward, Corvallis, in cere monies held last week. A sophomore philosophy ma jor, young Culy is a 1955 gradu ate of Medford High school. A mamber of Sigma Alpha Chi, service honorary, and Phi Eta Sigma, scholastic honorary, he is the winner of the Bishop Baxter scholarship. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Culy, 21 Washington street, Medford. Group Attends OEA Convention Mrs. Ivah Murray, Miss Ethel Reid and Mrs. Mae Richardson, officers of the Oregon Retired Teachers association, a depart ment of the Oregon Education association, were in Portland last week as delegates to the an nual OEA convention. Mrs. Anna Carter and Mrs. Marie Dizney were the delegates from the Jackson county unit of the Retired Teachers association. National Officer To Be Honored Grand Madam President Chloe Honeycutt of the Fraternal Or der of Eagles' auxiliary from Indianapolis, Ind., will be hon ored at a luncheon Thursday, March 21, at Eagles hall here. Mrs. Honeycutt, who will be met at the airport by a delega tion of the Medford auxiliary's officers, after the 12:30 o'clock luncheon, she will leave for Grants Pass and a meeting that evening. Mrs. Jim Peets is chairman of the luncheon committee. Students Arrive For Vacation Here. Miss. Jan Smith has arrived from Oregon State college to spend a vacation with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Miles 'B. Smith. 316 South Groveland ave nue. First Methodist church, wedded Miss Patricia Jean Freeburger to Dr. Robert L. Harland. The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Frank Freeburger, Route 1, Box 322, Gold Hill, and the bride groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis F. Harland, Red Bluff, Calif. Dr. Raymond E. Balcomb per formed the ceremony at eight o'clock in the evening, and Dr. Freeburger gave his daughter in marriage. The reception which followed was in the church parlor. The bride's gown was of lace over pale blue net, fashioned ballerina style with very full skirt and princess bodice with long sleeves. Her tulle veil was held by a cap of sequins and she carried a cascade of stephanotis centered with a white orchid. Medford Woman Retires as Head Of Junior Group Mrs. Serena McMahan, new director for the Junior Degree of Honor, was introduced to the group at the meeting last week by the former director, Mrs. H. G. Wilson. Mrs. Wilson, who was junior director for the group for 26 years, founded the Junior De gree of Honor here. She has been a member of the Degree of Honor group for 60 years and has attended the national con vention in St. Paul, Minn., six times as an honored guest and the state convention 14 times in the same capacity. The Junior Degree of Honor group was started with 8 mem bers in 1931, Mrs. Wilson said, and now has 154 members. At one time, she added, the mem bership was more than 200. Mrs. Wilson, who celebrated her 84th birthday Feb. 22, is a past state president and state secretary of Degree of Honor. Mrs. C. Clara Gertson, presi dent of the Junior group, spoke at the last meeting at which four new members were introduced. The next meeting of the club will be April 13 at 10:30 a.m. Mrs. Wilson will assist Mrs. Mc Mahan for the present. Altrusa Member Attends Meeting Mrs. Fred Rankin left Friday to attend an extension confer ence of Altrusa District 12 held at the Hotel Winthrop, Tacoma, Wash., March 16 and 17. Altrusa iclubs in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and British Columbia were represented at this meeting pre sided over by Dr. Loretta Miller, district governor. After the conference, Mrs. Rankin plans to spend a week in Seattle visiting friends and relatives. She will stop in Port land and Coos Bay on the way back to Medford. 4 Chapter To Honor Good Citizenship Crater Lake chapter Daugh ters of the American Revolution will meet Saturday, March 23, at 2 p.m. at the home of the Misses Martha, Claire and Mary Han ley, Central Point - Jacksonville highway. An antique show will be held and members are asked to take such articles to the meeting. Guests will be the Good Citizen ship girls and their mothers. Mrs. B. G. Harding and Mrs. W. W. P. Holt will assist the hostess. i a3aa v - Mist BilKe Conner, daughter of Ross M, Conner, route 2, box 438-C, Medford, was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fratern ity Dream Girl court at Linfield college, McMinnville, Ore., dur ing March festivities. Miss Con ner is a freshman. Miss Beverly Burgoyne of Central Point was her cousin's only attendant. She wore a gown of pale aquamarine crystalette designed empire style with gored skirt and a long sash. She wore a band of aquamarine daisies in her hair and carried a cascade of white hyacinths. Miss Gretchen Klomhaus, Rogue River, and Miss Donna Zeitler, Medford, lighted the candles. Their frocks matched that worn by the honor attend ant and they carried candles in an aquamarine colored fluff. Richard Harland, Chico, Calif., was best man for his brother, and ushers were Ted Hughes and W. Fred Johnson. White chrysanthemums in bas kets stood at either side of the altar, and the pew bows were of aquamarine daisies. Candel abra held lighted tapers. Fred Johnson took charge of the guest book. The bride's mother wore a beige suit and matching acces sories for the wedding and re ception. Her corsage was a white orchid. The bridegroom's mother wore a blue sheath dress with navy duster and accessories and a white orchid corsage. About 50 guests attended the wedding and reception. Dr. Harland and his bride traveled down the coast to San Francisco for their wedding trip, and will live at 512 South Holly street, Medford. For traveling the bride wore a beige sheath and duster with threads of gold and silver in the fabric. Both Dr. Harland and his bride attended Pacific university and he is associated with Dr. Freeburger in the practice of optometry. Dinner Announced For State Officers Prospect Plans were com pleted by Prospect .Lions' aux iliary at their meeting last week for the group's state officers din ner to be held Thursday, March 21 at 1 p.m. in the Community hall. The Prospect auxiliary will be hostess and the auxiliaries of Eagle Point. Shady Cove, Trail and Butte Falls will also partici pate. At the meeting a letter in Braille was shown to the group that was received from the blind children at Salem thank ing the club for the valentine box that was sent them. Mrs. Madeline Poole and Mrs. and Mrs. Robert Greene of As toria were visitors at the meet ing. It was decided by the group to sponsor the Explorer club and to enter a candidate for king in the Pear Festival. The birthday song was sung in honor of Mrs. Irene Kettle stadt and Mrs. Jimmy Dinkins. Mrs. Steve Larson led in the flag salute and Mrs. Darwin Bev ins led in singing the Doxology. Mrs. George Kansky was hon ored with a cake and gifts as she is leaving to live in Portland. Mrs. Victor Chapman was ap pointed treasurer in her place. A ' 1 Groups Initiate Medford Students Salem Five Willamette uni versity students from Medford were recently initiated into na tional sororities and fraternities on the campus, following one semester of pledging. Becoming members of Pi Beta Phi were Miss Janet Perry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Perry; Miss Sonja Peterson, daughter of Emil Peterson; Miss Janet Jamison, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Jamison. Miss Deanna Bruning, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Brun ing, is a new member of Delta Gamma; and Don Gordon, son of Harold Gordon, is affiliated with Beta Theta Pi. All are freshmen and gradu ates of Medford High school. Here Mrs. Robert Secrist and small son have arrived from Buffalo, New York, to spend three weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Pelle grini, South Oakdale avenue. The trip west was by plane. Homemakers Plan Annual Festival National Home Demonstration week, April 29 through May 4, will be observed in Jackson county with the annual Home maker's Festival, which will be held April 30 and May 1 in the Central Point Legion hall. Theme for the festival will be "Windows on the World" and will begin with the open house from 7 until 9:30 p.m. April 30. Registration will be held both days. They are Miss Florence Marriett Stacey, Miss Marianne I. Moore, Miss Patricia Ann Strader, and Lewis G. McLaren. Miss Stacey, a junior majoring in business administration, is the new rush chairman for Alpha Omicron Pi, national social sorority. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Stacey of 2901 East Fairview, Medford. Miss Moore, a junior majoring in home economics, is recording secretary of Alpha Chi Omega, national social sorority. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orie S. Moore of 1707 Ridgeway road. Miss Strader, a junior in busi ness administration, is the newly elected president of Delta Gam ma, national social sorority. For merly of Medford. she is the daughter of Mrs. Vera Strader of Portland. Young McLaren, a senior in agriculture, is the new president of Phi Kappa Psi, national social fraternity. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. McLaren of 1820 Crown avenue, Medford. The 16 sororities at OSC house some 535 of the 1733 women en rolled.
