I feel I can make a satisfactory living for my family, but our children have a right to this q mijtey. There were 36 motor vehicle accidents during the month, re sulting in three injuries and no fatalities. There was one case of sudden death and bodies found and seven cases of caring for sick people. Fresh Ground Vater Claimed Present in Coos Sand Dunes Washington (U.R) The In terior Department said today that undeveloped fresh ground water is present in sand dune areas north of Coos Bay, Ore., and can be made available to meet water needs in the area. A report, made public today by Interior Secretary Fred Sea ton, gives findings of an inves tigation made in 1954-56 by the Geological Survey in coopera tion with the Oregon state en gineer. Near Mean Sea Level The department said the ground water body is a thin. flat-bottomed lens in the dune sand. Its base lies near mean sea level and its top ranges from an elevation of three or, four feet at the tidewater edges to 25 to 30 feet near the central, north south crest of the dune lands. The lens of fresh water may be perehed on a clay-like layer and thus may not be in direct con tact with saline ground water below. The report includes data indi eating that the ground-water body is recharged by the infil tration of about 75 per cent of the raifall, which averages 61 inches per year. This estimated inflow amounts to a yearly re charge averaging about two mil lion gallons of water per day per square mile, the report said. Special Type of Wells The report said the flatness of the water body and the uniform medium grain of the sand re quire special types of wells and drains from which to withdraw the water cffecicntlv. The water is described as soft with a low mineral content and generally of good quality, although slight ly acitl.
