Ffim Representatives Opposed O Opposition to the bill was voiced ty Yamhill and Luin .county farm bureau representa tives who said they feared ( it wouii concentrate too much G power in the state. Gardner Knapp, Oregon School Boards Association, said he fa vored the bill but thought re organization could be accom plished without any "teeth" to compel reorganization. Former State Sen. J. O. John son, Tigard attorney, did not like the compulsion provision of the bill, but favored re-organization. He drew a laugh from the 200-odd persons and the Democratic-controlled committee by saying "we Republicans did not take care of the schools, but me hope you (the Democrats) do." Statement Disputed Rep. Shirley Field, Portland Republican member of the com mittee, disputed his statement good-naturedly. Commenting on loss of local control, C. C. Thompson, Jack son county, said it had been his experience in consolidated dis tricts that geographical jeal ousies melted as the program progressed. Elmer itfcClure, Oregon State Grange, said he was not opposed to district consolidations if they were voluntary. He said that even under present "chaotic con ditions" Oregon ranked fourth in the nation in education. e THIS SALE ENDS TONIGHT ORIGINAL CHIPPEWA Caulked Boots 5 COO Wi" Put These on Lay-Away U"'1 You Are Ready. Lack of Washington Vote Surprises Lucius Beebe Washington -U.R) Social ite publisher Lucius Beebe today eyed the nation's capital from its railroad yard. Charles Clegg, his partner in publishing the Virginia City, Nev., Territorial Enter prise, told him: "They have 'taxation with out representation." "I'm against both," Beebe said. "We'd be better off with out either taxation or repre sentation." That reminded Beebe of taxes and he grew more de pressed. "Everybody runs on a plat form of strict economy, but no one has kept his promise since Calvin Cooledge," he said. "Eisenhower should have cut the budget by 50 per cent and stop giving away money my money, specifically to the yaps and Japs and Hotten tots and rottentots and what have you." Then he led a brief tour around his private car. "You must see our golden goblets," he said. "We use them for water glasses when we drink water."
