Each 'unit member is asked to have one suggestisn for next year's program. o Master Masons To Confer Degrees Plans are being made by mem bers of Medford Masonic lodge for Master Mason, degree con ferring ceremony to be -held Saturday, March 2, at the Ma sonic temple. Ac cording to the Oregon Congress, PTA has translated into action the fundamental principles of Americanism regard for the home as a basic institution, re gard for the school as an instru ment for democracy, respect for human rights, and the preser vation of human dignity. PTA Unit Sponsors Cub Pack Guests at the last meeting of Jefferson ' Parent-Teacher asso ciation were Mrs. Owen Kunkle. president of the City Council of PTA; Mrs. Ray Alder, secretary; and Mrs. E. J. Lindstrom, presi dent of Lone Pine Parent-Teacher association. ' Also introduced was H. D. Christensen, chairman of the or ganization and extension pro gram for Crater Lake Area of Boy Scouts. He presented the association with its charter showing sponsorship of Cub Scout Pack 5 of Jefferson school under the cubmastership of Ward Lampkin. Musical entertainment was furnished by the Mothersingers, a . PTA sponsored group under the direction of Mrs. LeRoy Jensen, who sang several ' selec tions. A piano duet was played by Mrs. Jensen and Mrs. H. Chandler Drew, accompanist for the group. Women were invited to join the group which meets Wednesday morning at Hedrick Junior High school. Workers who helped serve and clean up at the dinner in January were honored by pre sentation of scouring pad cor sages. Special corsages were given to Kenneth Hulbert. prin cipal and Earl Covey, fourth grade home room teacher. Mrs. C. F. Underwood, past president of Washington PTA and Mrs. Richard Melum, past president of Shasta PTA, Klam ath Falls, were honored during the Founders' day portion of the program. They presented a short report on the objects of the PTA and the history. A silver tea was held following the meeting. The night March meeting was announced for Thursday, March at 7:30 p.m. Plans also were discussed for the rummage sale to be held by the group during the last week of March. Mem bers, are asked to save their rummage for this project. Townsend Auxiliary Announces Program The Townsend club and aux iliary will meet at 12:30' p.m. Wednesday, February 20, to ob serve the birthday of George Washington. The program and deeorations will be in the tra ditional cherry tree and little hatchet theme. At last Wednesday's meeting, Mrs. Thornton Arnold conducted the business meeting. Mrs. Arth ur Kelly read the Washington Flash and Mrs. J. R. Burgess read the Bulletin. Thirty-nine members and one visitor were present. One new membership was reported. Valentines were distributed as part of the enter tainment. The session closed with music and dancing. The club and auxiliary meets every Wednesday at Carpenters hall for a covered dish luncheon. IjPBD (' ' in 5 Parents' Club Plans Carnival Parent's club of the Griffin Creek school announces it will sponsor an old-fashioned carni val March 8 from 3 until 9 p.m. in the gymnasium and rooms of the school. Mrs. George Large, chairman, states that each of the school classes and sponsoring organiza tions of the school will have a booth or project of some kind at the carnival. According to Mrs. Randolph Hugdahl and Mrs. Arvid Al thens, cochairman, booths plan ned include a country store, where farm produce, home made jams and jellies, good used cloth ing various miscellaneous items, will be sold in true country store fashion. There will be fish-pond and pony rides for the children, a number of carnival games and a cake walk. A chili supper will be served, supplemented with hamburgers and hot-dogs. Mrs. Cleo Epps and Mrs. Har old Edmonds are in charge of the carnival games. All those wishing to donate prizes for- the games and items for the country store may get in touch with any of the chairman or the school The public is cordially invited to attend. Two PEO Chapters To Meet This Week; Program Announced Chapter CG of the PEO Sis terhood will meet for a 1 p.m. luncheon Wednesday, February 20, at the home of Mrs. J. A. Grigsby, Lone Mountain road, Eagle Point. Chapter BE will meet at the home of Mrs. L. K. Doty, 1125 East Main street, Tuesday, Feb ruary 19, at 8 p.m. Mrs. Orville Hamilton, Mrs. Orel Welsh, and Mrs. J. W. Morgan, will give the program on the states of Kansas and Washington. Miss Dorothy Willson will as sist Mrs. Doty. VFW Auxiliary Plans Dance at Camp White Ladies auxiliary of the Veter ans of Foreign Wars, Depart ment of Oregon, will sponsor a dance at the Camp White domic iliary Monday, February 18, at 8 p.m. in the theatre. Music will be furnished through the courtesy of V e r n Marshall's orchestra. Anyone wishing transporta tion may take the bus at the Trailways depot at 7:30 p.m. MAIN AND Sorority Visits Defense Center Of Communication Members of Alpha chapter, Epsilon Sigma sorority, visited the civil defense communication center February 11. D wight Albright, head of com munications for Jackson county, explained how a disaster mes sage would be relayed to Wash ington, D.C. He said the county set-up will also include the the radio equipment of the South ern Oregon Conservation and Tree Farms association, and radio operators would be in charge of all communications. Major General J. H. Hicks, civil defense director, also an swered questions. The business meeting was held at the home of Mrs. C. C. Peter son with Mrs. Norman Oberst and Mrs. Russial Roseborough as hostesses. It was announced $8 had been given to the March of Dimes, and S100 will be sent to The Crippled Children's Hos pital School in Eugene. Lodge Session Set For Tuesday Evening Pythian Sisters will meet Tuesday, February 19, at 8 p.m. at the Pythian building. It is stated that business of import ance will be discussed. Refresh ments will be served after the meeting. Past Chiefs' club will meet Wednesday, February 19, at the home of Mrs. Carl Fichtner, 613 South Holly Street for a covered dish luncheon and business meet ing. Pythian club met Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Carl Fichtner. Plans for a show er to be given at the next meet ing were discussed. Following the business meeting, the mem bers played cards. This annual af fair is given by the Lady Lions in appreciation for the co-operation of all firemen in the Christ mas toy project. This year an Italian spaghetti dinner was served. Following dinner, Mrs. Nick Gier, chairman of the entertain ment -committee, presented the Misses , Oveta Walden, Sharen Roberts and Karen Britten and Nick Gier, students from the Muzzioli accordion school in sev eral numbers. The balance of the evening was spent playing games. Mrs. Joseph Tomjack presided for a business meeting. Follow ing committee reports it was announced that an important board meeting would be held at the home of Mrs. Lee Mellish, 117 Black Oak drive, Tuesday, February 19 at 7:30 p.m. Plans will be discussed for the Lions convention to be held in Med ford in June. It has been re quested that as many members be present as possible.
