Wilson now expect the Cabinet member to remain in his post for about another year. There had been recurrent re ports earlier that the secretary would depart the government in mid-summer after seeing the new military budget through Congress. Some sources speculated that President Eisenhower may name Gen. Alfred M. Gruenther to succeed Wilson. If that is the case, it might well explain the secretary's decision to remain in his pst for another year. Gruenther, a close friend of Mr. Eisenhower, gave up his iour-star uniform and the su preme command in Europe last fall to become president of the American Red Cross. Gruenther presumably would want to stay a year with the Red Cross before going .on to a cabinet po. Portland Ladleman Killed by Hot Metal Portland (U.R) A 43-year-old ladleman for the Oregon Steel Mill died late yesterday from burns he received in an accident at the plant Monday night when a 21-ton ladle of molten steel broke loose and sprayed hot metal on him. Howard S. Beck suffered burns over 90 per cent of his body. Three other employees suffered injuries when the hook holding the huge melting pot broke and sprayed the fiery metal on them. Plant spokesmen said the huge bucket of 2800-degree liq uid fell about four feet after breaking loose.
