Hostess for the reception was Mrs. E. E. Evernden Jr. The honored couple came to Phoenix 23 years ago: their four daughters all were present for the celebration. Open House Held in Phoenix To Observe 60th Anniversary Phoenix Mr. and Mrs. Al fred F. Lewis, whose 60th wed ding anniversary was January 31, were honored at an open house Saturday afternoon, Feb ruary 2, in their home at 506 Fifth street. Phoenix. Eighty-three friends, neigh bors, and relatives called dur ing the afternoon to greet Mr. and Mrs. Lewis. Out-of-town guests for the celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Harnsberger and son Stanley. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Karr and daughters Karen Kathy and Debbie. Klamath Falls; Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Tripp. Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Hayes, Port land; Mr. and Mrs. Ned Shep- pard and daughter Nedra, Cen tral Point; and Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Harnsberger Jr. and daughter Ginger of Ashland. Beauticians Plan Week's Observance National Beauty Salon week will be observed by the Medford unit of Oregon Beautician's as sociation with a kick-off break fast Monday, February 11, at 8 a.r at the Jackson hotel. The no-host breakfast is open to all beauticians in the area. The Medford unit will do the hair styles on the models taking part in the style show that will be givoi at a luncheon at Rogue Valley country club, Monday. The Lewis' have seven grand children, four great-grandchildren and five great-great grand children. Butte Falls PTA Plans Meeting Butte Falls A program handicapped children will given at a meeting of Butte Falls Parent-Teacher asscoiation to celebrate Founders day. It is set for. Monday, February 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Special music, a quiz and a resume of . the help available at the local, county and state levels are some of the plan ned features of the program. The safety committee, head ed by Mrs. William Lytle. will report concerning the sanding of the grade school playground. Election of a nominating com mittee to select a slate of of ficers for next year is on the agenda. Voting on candidates will.be at the March meeting so that delegates to the Oregon Congress of Parents and Teach ers may complete their plans. The state meeting will be in Pendleton in April. Mrs. Alva Webster, chairman of the refreshment committee, is planning a decorated 'birth day" cake to be served during the social hour. Mrs. Wallace Haskins To Give Travelogue For Retired Teachers Jackson county Retired Teach ers will meet Monday. February 11, at the home. of Mrs. George B. Canode, 1716 Crown avenue, at 1:30 p.m. Mrs. Wallace Haskins will give an illustrated talk on her recent trip to Europe. A social hour will follow the business meeting. State Director To Conduct Rites Mrs. Clara Gertson, Heppner, Ore., state director of Degree of of Honor lodge will install of ficers of the Medford lodge Mon- day, February 11. The meeting will be held in Redman hall, 216 Apple street, at 8 p.m. Here's dig Canteen Service To Be Formed For Red Cross Organization of a new can teen service was announced at the monthly meeting of the chairmen of volunteer services of Jackson county Red Cross chapter. It was held Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Lillian Sa lade of Central Point, with a buffet luncheon following. Mrs. R. G. Bardwell, acting chairman, presided. It was an nounced that Mrs. Grace Fiero has been named chairman of the new canteen service, and Mrs. Adam Richter is co-chairman. A training class has been sched uled to start March 19, with in struction under the direction of Miss Marjorie Hatton and Miss Mary Pat Lucy of the Jackson County Extension service. Certification for volunteers will require a 10-hour class, and any women interested in volun teering are asked to call the Red Cross office and register. These volunteers will be trained to serve food for all chapter meetings as well as to serve as part of the Civil defense in case of disaster. Also attending were Mrs. Frank C. Preston of motor serv ice; Mrs. W. H. Reichstein, co chairman for Gray Ladies to Community; Mrs. Thomas Em mens, nurses aides and Mrs. Helen A. Wilson, executive sec retary. Pastor to Speak For Meeting of Temperance Union Woman's Christian Temper ance union will meet Thursday, February 14, at 2 p.m. at the Salvation Army annex, 236 North Bartlett street. Mrs. Olaf Severson, spiritual life director, will present the Rev. George A. Trobough, as sistant pastor at First Methodist church, who is in charge of the devotional and music. February is memorial month for Miss Frances Willard, found er of WCTU, and Mrs. Mable Houck, chairman for the Thurs day meeting will give a story of Miss Willard's life. Each year a program is planned in her hon or during February. , Refreshments will be served by Mrs. John Blass, Mrs. T. W. Conner, Mrs. John M. Root and Mrs. Holly Michael. Play Announced For PTA Session Jacksonville A playi "Point of Beginning,., will be presented by Medford Footlighters at the next meeting of Jacksonville Parent-Teacher association. It will be held Wednesday, Feb; ruary 13, in the school gym nasium. Following the play discussion will be led by Miss Mary Van denberg, psychiatric social work er for Southern Oregon Child Guidance clinic. Francis Guidry, grade school principal, reminds fathers an d mothers that all day Wednesday open house will be held in the grade rooms. Mothers and fath ers are invited to visit the school, to take part in the day's schedule, and to talk to the teachers of their children. A prize of SI is being pre sented by the PTA to the class with the largest number of par ents present. Refreshments will be served by mothers of children in the fifth and sixth grade. BOOKS GIFTS RECORDS .1 : : Miss Pavon-Jovel Student To Speak For AAUW Miss Estela Pavon-Jovel of Honduras, a student at Southern Oregon college, will speak at the annual fellowship luncheon of Medford branch, American As sociation of University Women, at the Medford hotel on Satur day, February 16. The luncheon starts at 12:15 p.m. The meeting is open to all members, past members and study group members of the branch. Those desiring reserva tions may call Mrs. L. J. Smith, chairman of arrangements, at 2-8590, by Thursday, February 14. Miss Pavon-Jovel, a graduate of the University of Tegucigalpa. Honduras, is in her second year at SOC where she also is serving as a first-year Spanish instructor. She is majoring in English in the Humanities division at the college. Last year she presented a large Honduran flag to the SOC student body from the stu dents of the Institute de Comer cia Hector Pineda Ugarte. Miss Pavon-Jovel is the au thor of two books, "Poemario de Primaveral" and "Histories Folklorican del Teruna," and was on the staff of the Honduran newspaper, "Diario el Dia." The 17 members, from Med ford, Eagle Point, Table Rock, and surrounding areas, appoint ed Mrs. Dunagan, chairman; Mrs. R.' W. Womelsdorf, vice president; Mrs. Marie Cummons, secretary; Mrs. W. L. Lyndell, treasurer; and Mrs. Cummons and Mrs. Lyndell as program planning leaders. Talk Announced By Missionary; Officers Named Miss Helen Walter, missionary on furlough from Japan, will speak at a business and mission ary meeting of the Women's Fellowship of First Baptist church Tuesday, February 12. The meeting will begin with business at 10745 a.m. followed by the devotional and lunch. Miss Walter will speak at 1 p.m. Miss Walter is an eastern Oregon girl and has been in Japan since 1951; she returned in August of 1956 for her furlough. The meeting will be in charge of the new officers recently ded icated. President of the fellow ship is Mrs. Don Minear; Mrs. Clarence Wilson vice-president and Mrs. Angus Lindstrom is sec retary. The treasurer is Mrs. Helmer Tinseth, and Mrs. James Neeley is the musician. New committee chairmen are Mrs. Myrtle Wilson, prayer; devotional, Mrs. Bertha Hibbard; missionary, Mrs. Erwin Peters; social, Mrs. J. E.
