The Aivarac scientists stud ied the amounts of cholesterol and certain lipo-proteins (lipo means fat) in the blood of nearly 2,000 apparently normal men and women, and nearly 300 per sons who had definite coronary heart distaat. In tha cases of 273 men who had survived a heart attack, the average levels of cholesterol and lipo-protein in the blood wtre higher than in normal men. Unfortunately, the measure ment! vary so markedly in dif ferent persona that their value indicators of future trouble with the heart is not always Haystack Burn Area Is Being Resesded Yreka Reseeding by air craft of more than 6,500 acres burned in the Haystack fire in 1955 ia now underway. Ranger John Hall, of the Klamath National forest, said 22'. t tons of aeed are being flowin in by government air craft, under supervision of Faul V. Meiachka, Yreka range con servationist. Assisting in the operatione are Jo Church and Brian Youell, of Oak Knoll, and John Murray, Bob Scharf, Max Rycc and Arlic Clyburn, of Yreka. PurpoM of the seeding is. to rehabilitate ground disturbed by ogling of the burn, according to Hall. He said funds for the proj ect was deposited by several companies that logged the area last summer. It it hoped grats will check acrioua erosion started by last summer's thunderstorm until planted trees and native vegeta tion can stabilise the toil, Hall, said. The meeting has been set for 7:S0 p.m. and the White home is on Highway 9 thre miles west of Gold .Hill. The meeting is described as an "important" one and all mem bers and prospect members are asked to be present. . definite. The bloods fats were found to be present in larger amounts in stout persons of both fexes. Tiekiiaj Drugs' Mee-ie4 At a recent medical meeting, some of. the experts suggest that instead of hunting for more tranquilizing drugs for people, what we need today is a good medicine which will put a fight ing spirit into people a spirit that will help the mentally sick to conquer their fears, and to get up and face the world. Many schizophrenic persons greatly need a drug that will help them to conquer their great shyness, their inferiority complex, and their fear of touching people or being touched by them. Radio-Cobalt and Cancer At a recent meeting, Dr. H. E. Johns, of the Ontario Cancer Institute, said that he thought within three years, rays derived from radio-active cobalt will re place the usual 200,000-volt x ray machines in the treatment of cancer. Dr. Johns said that several patients whose cancer was too far advanced for treat ment with the ordinary radio therapy received substantial benefit from irradiation -with the cobalt bomb. We speak of a cobalt "bomb" because this radium-like sustance has to be kept in a big thick-walled con tainer which will protect the persons around it from rays spreading out in every direction. The patient gets his dosage of rays through a little hole in one side of the bomb. This hole is pointed at his cancer. Strange As tt Seem KCK6TT, jtlEHS- . IN ling Island. NX Ok A6 h &RSW FONBK.'
