Servicemen Mirinij Offering Aiiition Duty The Marine corps is now offer ing a positive guarantee of avia tion duty to young men who are qualified, the local retruit- Oing office has announced. Quotas have been assigned to the seven reserve and recruit ment districts in the country to fill the need for aviation per sonnel in the Marine corps. Under the program, recruits desiring aviation duty are guar anteed that upon completion of boot camp and individual combat training, they wijl be assigned to an aviation school for train ing. Enlistment, records will specify they are designated for such training. Among courses offered are jet mechanic, helicopter mechanic, air launched guided missile tech nician and air controller. Additional information can be obtained from the Marine corps recruiting office t the Medford post office. GRADUATE Pvt. William R. Olsen, 20, son of Mrs. Vivian M. Myers, Tal ent, recently M graduated from the I let antifircraft artil lery brigade's administrative fschool at XcChord Air Force base. Wash. Olsen entered the Army last September and completed bas ic training at Ft. Carlson, Colo. His father, Lawreive C. Olsen, lives in Sparks, Nev. COMPLETE TRAINING Pvt. Robert L. Staton, whose wife, Audrey, livesQat 204 Berry- dale ave., Medford, recently completed the first phase of packet platoon training with the fourth armored division at Ft. Hood, Tex. Upon completion of the three-phase program, Sta ton will become on of 7,500 replacements for the third arm ored division in Grrmahy. TO GRADUATE Virgil E. Elbert, son of Mr and Mrs. Floyd J. Freight Derailment Delays Portland Trains Portland (U.PJ Arrival of Union Pacific passenger trains in Portland from the East were delayed Saturday because of a freight train derailment near Pocatello, Ida. Railroad officials said the Portland Rose, due here at 5:30 a.m. arrived at 7:45 a.m., and the City of Portland, due at 7:30 a.m., was scheduled to ar rive at 3:45 p.m. The company said it had no details of the derailment. Eagle Scout Lciycs For Washington Todiy Gary Meredith, who is one of 12 Eagle Scouts chosen througn out the United States for the ' Report to the Nation'' activities at Washington, D.C. during Boy Scout Week, will leave from the Medford airport at 5:55 p.m. to day. The Cave Junction youth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Mere dith, is to check in at Hotel Stat ler, Washington, D.C, on Tues day, Feb. 5. His week's itinerary will include sight-seeing in Wash ington, Philadelphia, and New York, along with a trip to the national office of the Boy Scouts of America, New Brunswick, New Jersey, and the Schiff Scout reservation, national training center. In addition the 12 boys will appear on at least.one television show and will participate in a number of ceremonies. Highlight of the trip will be the tradition al Washington breakfast with several hundred prominent bus iness, government, civic and re ligious leaders. Tentative plans also include presentation of the Scouts to President Eisenhower or his proxy. Police said a search was main tained throughout the night but no definite trace of the holdup man had been turned up. The robbtr sidled up to the cag operted"by Teller Ann Divis in th crcftvded bank lob by and thrust a note through the window to her. "This is a holdup. Give me your money." the note read. The teller said she did not see a fun but the bandit kept his hand concealed in his coat in' a menacing manner, indicating that he was armed. Many of my women friends with only one baby have someone come in to help with the housework. What is so terrible about it? The Council: It appears from both these accounts that Ste phen is at least as "spoiled" as Elizabeth probably more so. Stephen must wake up and realize this. His wife may have been accustomed to getting the material things she wanted without effort, but he appears to be getting emotional and mental support from his parents and shows no inclination to do with out these, even now that he is a father himself. He seems to re sent the fact that his parents "wash their hands of the whole thing." He doesn't realize this is exactly what they should do. Stephen does not appear to have yet made art adult effort to cope with his marriage. He has no right to throw up at his wife what he knew before the marriage that she had no ex perience at homemaking and would be likely to find things difficult. He could have made it easier by helping her, en couraging her and laughing off her mistakes. His criticism only served to discourage her efforts. Stephen also had no right to run complaining to his parents and to insist upon getting ad vice from them. If he under took the responsibility for mak ing his own decisions, he would probably come to the conclu sion that there is no great harm in his wife's getting a hand with the housework if he can afford it. His fear of "spoiling" Elizabeth is very ill founded if she makes an honest effort to make a nice home and cares for her child properly. Former Oregon City Mayor Dies Friday Oregon City UR) Linn E. Jones, former mayor of Ore gon City, died Friday at the age of 82. Jones was a druggist by pro fession and served seven ses sions in the state legislature. He served on the state board of, pharmacy until he retired in 1950. Services will be held here Monday.
