Januiry SI, 1937 Hungarian Puppet Premier Declares Fight Not Over Vienna Ol.rT Puppet Pre mier Janos Kadar admitted widespread anti-Communist hoa-! tality among Hungarians today ! and warned the "fight for pow-1 er" in the East European satel lite is not yet over. j Western observers feared Ka- i dar's remarks indicated a further tightening of the Com munist yoke on Hungary and the possible acceleration of the terror practices on the Red police-state. ' Speech Excerpts Broadcast Budapest radio broadcast ex cerpts of a speech made by Kadar at a meeting of the Hun garian Socialist Communist Workers Party organization in a district of Budapest. The Premier, who was forced on Hungarian people by Soviet guns, said the October freedom-Irora-Moscow uprising was a "fight for power in Hungary which still goes on." "Our main task is to strength en the unity of the working class," he said. "Therefore we must cooperate with the former Social Democrats, and establish, together with them, a united workers front," Kadar said. 'Many Mistakes' Cited Kadar said the Stalinist re gime of Matyas Rakosi made "many mistakes." But he urged Hungarians not to listen to the "enemy who is trying to make them bigger than they were." Observers here said Kadar's speech was an open admission of Communist weakness in Hun gary. They said Kadar practical ly announced the failure of his campaign to establish a strong new Communist Party to replace the organization virtually wiped out during the revolt. Willamette Observes 115th Anniversary Salem (U.R) The oldest uni versity west of Missouri, Wil lamette, celebrates its 115th anniversary tomorrow. Willamette, a Methodist spon sored institution, had its begin ning In 1834 when Jason Lee founded a mission school for Indian children. On Feb. 1, 1842. a board of trustees was named and a con stitution adoped for a new school. The Oregon Institute, for white children. From a beginning with one faculty member and five stu dents, the university today has more than 1100 students enroll ed and a faculty of 100. Eugene, Salem Talk Transit Troubles Salem (U.R City officials of Eugene and Salem were slated to confer here today on the mounting financial difficulties which have beset City Transit Lines, operators of bus service in both cities. Carl Wendt, manager of the line here, said that' recent cur tailment of Sunday and night schedules in both cities has not solved the transit system's prom lems. Some 20 officials of the cities were scheduled to attend the meeting. Defense Airs Case At The Dalles Trial The Dalles (U.R) The defense started presenting its case here today in the second-degree mur der trial of 20-year-old Eugene Calvin Hatch of Yakima. Wash. The youth is accused of the knife slaying of Walter Free born, elderly Great Falls, Mont., salesman while the two were parked here overnight in Free born's house trailer last year. The state rested its case late yesterday after Circuit Judge Malcolm Wilkinson ruled that two controversial statements signed by the youth at the time of his arrest -were admissable as evidence in the case.
