Henry Helser & Com pany to dismiss charges the firm misrepresented investments in letters to prospective clients. The judge gave no indication w hen he would rule on the mo tion. He still must hear a motion by the Securities and Exchange Commission for a permanent in junction against the Helser firm. The SEC charged Helser de liberately continued a program of misrepresentations in defiance of a Federal Court order issued in 1955 which directed the firm to revise its relationships with clients. Helser attorney Robert E. Burns told the court the letters in question were in "areas of fair comment" and were based on performances which were on record "at the time the state ments were made." He said the letters were based on a survey of individual ac counts and on a company survey which showed an average return of nine per tent over , the life of some 3.122 accounts. Corvallis Council Has Meter Problem Corvallis (U.R) City council men were full of ideas for the lelicf of a harassed Corvallis housewife but Mrs. Charles Hamilton considered none c them very practical. Seems the city installed a parking meter in front of the Hamilton home, at the very spot where Mrs. Hamilton must park her car long enough to open the garage doors. The other day an alert policeman ticketed her car during the moment that she hurried to open the garage. Mrs. Hamilton asked that the meter be removed. Council suggestions included authorizing police to overlook Mrs. Hamilton's temporary park ing, authorizing the police chief to "fix" her tickets, authorizing Mrs. Hamilton to park across the sidewalk, and a suggestion that the woman install a radio controlled door that could be opened from her car. No decision was reached by the council but Mayor Carl Wil liams had word of comfort for Mrs. Hamilton: "according to the law of averages, you shouldn't be caught too often." Have you noticed the difference in mail de livery when the carriers on your route are changed? At times the change is for the better. At others, for the worse. It prob ably would not be practical for the government to institute a wage scale for postmen based on comparative ability. However, there is nothing to prevent high ly satisfied citizens from giving their postmen something in the way of a bonus. Even if each family on the route gave their highly capable mail carrier a dollar a month as a bonus it would build up his income con siderably.
