Minister Preaches Own Funeral Rite Johnston City, 111. flj.F!) Elder Charles M. Weaver of the Primitive Baptist church, here preached his own funeral ser mon today. . The Rev. Weaver, a minister of the Primitive or "hardshell Baptist sect for 62 years, died Tuesday at the age of 89 after a heart attack. One of the elder's desires in recent years was to say the last words over his own body as windup to his career. Seven years ago he made pre parations for the funeral by put ting a 13-minute sermon on 12-inch record. Weaver's widow, Alice, and furneral director Roland Mur- man arranged to play the record at today's service. Both have heard the sermon before. Mrs. Weaver said the record is "almost as if he were preach ing someone else s funeral. Weaver started the oration witnout any Introductory re marks and . hardly mentioned himself anywhere in the ser mon which runs through both i sides of the record. Portland Banks Seek Reward Money Ruling ' Portland (U.R) A group Of five Portland banks filed suit here yesterday seeking a court ruling on distribution of a $3000 reward offered for information leading to the apprehension- of the person responsible for the April 15 1955 bombing of the Meier & Frank company de partment store. tne store earlier had filed a similar suit to determine the rightful receiver of a 523,000 reward the company had put up The eight claimants to the money include three members of the city police force and two federal postal inspectors. Both the bank and store suits ask the court to determine how the reward money should be aportioned. William Clarence Peddicord, blind chemist, was convicted and sentenced to a 20-year pris on term for staging the extor tion plot bombing. Maison, Mrs. Langley Called in Tap Probe Portland (U.R) A federal grand jury called to hear wire tapping charges brought in Port land yesterday called the head of the state police and the wife of the Multnomah county district attorney to testify. H. G. Maison, superintendent of the state police, was the first witness to appear before the fed eral jury. His testimony lasted about 10 minutes. Also called was Mrs. William M. Langley, wife of District At torney Langley. She also spent no more than 10 minutes with the grand jury. The 23 members of the grand jury were specifically directed last week to probe "numerous charges of wire tapping in xhe community." Press Ban on Ike's Swearing-in Stands Washington (U.R) White House Secretary James C. Hag erty said Wednesday he knows of "no change" in the decision to ban reporters and cameras from President Eisenhower's pri vate inauguration Sunday. He made the statement when asked if any reconsideration was being given to the edict in view of complaints from all news me dia as well as from some con gressmen. He said President Eisenhower of course" has seen the com plaints since some of the mes sages were addressed to him. He had no further comment.
