Rep. Clement J. Zablocki (D- Wis.), author of the substitute, said Acheson had "really pointed Land Use Meeting Set at Cave Junction Cave Junction Southern Oregon foresters, woodlot and mill owners, and other persons interested in the lumber industry have been invited to a land use meeting Tuesday, Jan. 15, in the ' American Legion hall in Cave Junction. The meeting is sponsored by the Southern Oregon Christmas Tree association and the forestry committee of the Josephine coun ty Planning conference. The agenda will include dis cussions on problems of growing and marketing Christmas trees; formulation of a plan to induce hardwood manufacturers into the area, and opinions on improv ing the quality of trees and other forest land in Illinois valley. E. W. (Jiggs) Morris, chairman of both the Christmas Tree as sociation and the forestry com mittee of tjje Planning confer ence, has invited Josephine County Agent Harry E. Clark and others to speak. The state board of forestry, cooperating with the forest serv ice, provides men to aid land owners in tree culture, reseed- ing and good management prac tices. Only Few Blue Books Carry Political Error Salem (U.R) Only about a dozen copies of Oregon's new Blue Book carried the error which listed State Rep. Sam Wilderman of Portland as a Democrat, officials said today. Wilderman is a Republican. The few copies were delivered to press associations and to Port land newspapers. the way" for handling the "pow er vacuum" in the Middle East that the administration fears Russia will try to fill. Zablocki is a member of the House Foreign Affairs commit tee which heard Acheson Thurs day condemn the Eisenhower proposal as" "far too hazardous." The President has asked Con gress to grant him standby au thority to use U.S. troops, if necessary, to block any Russian aggression in the Middle East. He also wants approval of a $400 million program of eco nomic and military aid to strengthen the Middle East. Asks Congressional Approval In his State of the Union Mes sage to Congress Thursday, Mr. Eisenhower said congressional approval of his plan is a matter of "vital and immediate import ance." Indications have been that Congress would give the Presi dent substantially what he wants. But Acheson, secretary of state under former President Truman, said Mr. Eisenhower's request for standby authority to use American troops in the Mid dle East "sounds perilously like another approach into the brink" of war. He said that Secretary of State John Foster Dulles' interpreta tion of what the administration would do with this authority "frightens me to death." Urges Resolution Enactment Acheson urged that Congress enact a resolution stating simply that it supports the President in any negotiations to bring peace to the Middle East. Acheson said the declaration should contain support for use of U.S. economic and political resources as well as military. The Acheson proposal would not have the power of law and would not grant Mr. Eisenhower any powers that he does not now have. Acheson said that if Mr. Ei senhower needs . legislation to carry out specified projects he should ask Congress for the pro jects specially, not just in "vague phrases." Zablocki said he hoped to have a draft of Acheson's pro posal ready "within a day or two."
