Christmas Lights

Christmas decorations, whether reverent or gay,
are an important part of the American scene. This year
the Medford Junior Chamber of Commerce, sponsored
a home decoration and lighting contest, and pictured
today are some of the entries which were completed
early last week. '

Thineen-year-old Stephen Miller, who starred building a Christmas scene three years ago, this year did a touch-up
job on Santa Claus. Stephen, In the eighth grade at St. Mary's, executed the decorations from a design sketched
by Curtis Barne. Stephen .is a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Miller Jr., 41 1 Oakwood drive, and the scene is on

Hundreds of valley residents drive by the home of' A. M. "Dutch" Farfan, 723 Newtown' street, during the holiday!
to see the nativity scene and other Christmas decorations which he creates.' Mr. Farfan, a building contractor,
made the shelter and figures from plaster, last year's scene was only Mary and the Christ child; this year he
added the figure of Joseph.

Santa Claus with sleigh and reindeer are on the roof of the home of Dr. and Mrs. O. A. Welsh, 1300. East Main
street. Dr. Welsh made the objects from solid blocks of wood, creating his own design and doing the cutting,
carving and painting. The task took much of his spore time for six months. This is the third year the roof top scene
has been created by : the doctor for Christmas. , i

House decorations made by the A. M. Farfan family includes huge candy canes made from linoleum rolls topped
with stovepipe elbows and enameled red and white. Bows and greenery decorate the big canes. The Farfans'
daughters, Linda (at left) and Rhonda, admire their father's handiwork. The girls macte the lollipops from paper
plates, painting them in various gay colors.
