"Whit the outcome ingo ing to be, I do not know. Often, these cases, some electroshock treatments will bring the woman out, but' she hay already bad ten such shocks and is no better for them. Doesn't Blame Anyone I am not writing this because t want to blame anyone. DoubJ less the physician who Insisted on the. operation felt that he. was doing the wise thing." He did not know that some of the best gyn ecologists in the world would hive9 disagreed tvithi him. He apparently did not know in this case, one of the woman's aunts and a sister had bean in a mental hospital. It he had knswn this, he probably would not have or dered the operation. I much ad mire the jrhrgeon who tried to get out of performmgothe opera tion. ' Whatthen, is the moral? Ob viously, it is that no woman shoulfi have a hysterectomy for a silent fibroid one. tht is not giving Uer aiy trouHe. In this case, it was not causing flood ing stsch as might have pr.oduced nemia. The woman could easily have waited for yearsor until the menopause came. Then, her myomas would probably have hrunk up. . I often tay that myomas Of the uterus are like knobs on a potato which are made tt potato. The knobs on the uterus re made of uterine musclr. I have seen women live for. years ad years with thesi lumps; I have even known these women to have two or three children, one after tbe other. The worst thing a woman .can do .is to nave her uterus removed simply because half of the vjomefl in her set riave been having his" operation performed. This week I have been sad dened by "seeing three women whose pelvic organs were re moved when they were in their earry twenties. None of tham ever could learn why the opera tion was done. The husband of one of the women is a lawyer and even he could not get the surgeon to say why he had per formed such a serious operation. Fortunately, in all these cases, the women retained their ability to be loving, which suggests that most of this ability depends on the love and affection that comes from the jrain aid Heart. Good surgeons tell me that today more and more, they a?e avoiding per forming hysterectomy on a young woman. They wait untS two or three other 8ble men fcave examined the patient and agreed that thee operation is bsolutely nesegsary. Then, after operation, if the womar. wishes it, they giva report of whsl was found. Muscle Creirtpf In Legs At Night Many persons have asked me to write again on the painful cramps that often make a man jump i3t of Bed at eight, to ,)'alk up and down. Only walk ing up:and flown will cause th muscle spasm to let go. 0 ' know that I can gtjt these cramps very easily by not drink ing milk once a day or by drink ing too much coffee. Some phy sicians have told me that they can get th cramp's any time they want to, just by taking more than three cups of coffee a day. iylany of my patients have gotten relief simply by taking a daily glass, of milk. When the cramps are bad, and when, perhaps, the person is allergjc to milk ot is nau$eattd by it, if he (or she) will btfy a bottle of syrup of glycuron ate of calcium and take a table spoonful at bed-time, he wiJl fisually get relief. Many doctors give a deste ef quinine at bed time. I Haven't had much luck with this treatment, but ap parently it works in some cases.
