o o o o o o JACKSONVILLE Schools Hold Open House . r MM. C. S. MOSKIMS Jacksonville Open house wis held at the Jacksonville school Nov. 14 in recognition of Educa tion week. Approximately 150 people visited cUssroomi during the day. From 7 p.m. untill 8 p.m. i meeting between high school seniors and their, parent was hel! to discus scholarships, and the various plans of the senior class. " At 8 p.m. the PTA meeting wa held with about 100 attend ing.; A four panel group discus lion was held on school spirit and community spirit and how they are related to each other.- Fiday evening faculty mem bers of both grade and high school, alnn2 with school board members, held a dinner party at Mon Desir. A group of five Jacksonville High school girls, representing the Girls Athletic Association, left Friday to attend a confer ence meeting in Salem. The girls were: r'ancy Adams. Deanna Bishop. Elmira Eeard, Zita Mad dox and Oteka Shepard. They wete accompanied by two Jack sonville teachers, Mrs. Helen Broadbeek nd Mrs. Mary Sul lenger. They plan to return Saturday. Out of town visitors at" the ' Lee Maddox home from Nov. 5 until Friday of this week were Lee Maddrox's brother and his wife, Hr. and Mrs. George, Mad do, of Ontario. Ore. They also visited Mrs. George Maddox's brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Piland, Medford. Mr. and Mrs. Ilenry Griffith of Auburn, Calif..' arrived here llils week and are visiting old , friends in Jacksonville. They are also visiting relatives in Med Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mclntyre erved a family dinner Sunday, Nov. 1, honoring their daughter, Mrs. Mike. (Wilma) Bray, Mrs. Bray and son. Dennis and Tim othy, will 'leave this week for Fairbanks, Alaska, where' they will Join SSjrt. Mike Bray, who is stationed there with the Air Force. Tiioe present at the dinner were Mrs. E. D.' Mclntyre, Mrs. Donald Swanson and sons, Mike, Pat, Danny and Mark,.Mrs.-.Phy'-lis Willis of Ashland, Mrs. Joe SmHh and son. Randy, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Mclntyre and chil dren Linda. Beck and Steve, 'Mrs. Piuma'Hill, Mrs. Minnie Sawyer. cMr. and Mrs. Wilmer Wells and son,. Gordon, of Sa lem, Mrs. Lola Mclntyre. Mr. and Mrs. d. M. Bray of Medford, and the Joe Mclntyre's son, Maurice. Stanley Chester, stationed at the Naval airbase in Jackson ville, Fla., will be home Thanks giving. He has been in the serv ice for a year. His brother, Le roy Chester, is still recuperat ing from surgery in a Corona, Calif., hospital and will be un able to make it home for Thanksgiving. Mrs. Mary' Jordon of Bagley, Minn., was a visitor in Jackson ville this week at the homes of her two sons, and their families,- Clinton and Henry Jordon. Mrs. Jordon rode out here with her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Bock haven, of Los Angeles, who was visiting in Minnesota. After leav ing Jacksonville Mrs. Jordon will visit her daughter, Mrs. Wayne Sills, in Petaluma. Calif., and then return here for Thanks giving before ' returning home. Mrs. Bockhoven went to Los Angeles, where she is working as a trained nurse. Everyone is welcome to the old fashioned Thanksgiving day dinner at the Presbyterian church in Jacksonville from 2 p.m. till 5 p.m. The meal, which will include turkey with all the trimmings,, will be S! 50 for adults and 75 cents for children. Billy White, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold White, was honored guest at a party given by his mother celebrating his sixth birthday Tuesday, Nov. 13. A ennrial pnpit was Rillv's Grand mother, Mrs. Earl White of Del Paso Heights, Calif., who spent a week visiting in Jacksonville. Other guests were: Charles Legg, Julie Dawson, Merle Jor don, Garry and Doug Worden, Dale Noel and his mother, Mrs. Bill Noel, and his baby sister, Patty, Becky and Steven Mc lntyre and the honored guest Billy White. M. F. COVIN Hilts The Hilts Community club held their regular meeting at the home of Mrs. Frank Ok lund on Cottonwood creek, Thursday, Nov. 7. Those present were Mrs. E. Spannus, Mrs. M. G. King, Mrs. Wiiliam Wiley, Mrs. Malcolm Robinson, Mrs. Fred Haynes, Mrs. Frank Graves, Mrs. Al Sim men, Mrs. Art Blanchard. Mrs. Joe Caston, Mrs. Frank Ayres, Mrs. Italo Marin, Mrs. Donivan Ward, Mrs. Ozzie Bernhiesel and Mrs. Evan Maupin. In canasta high scores were won by Mrs. Marin and Mrs. Ward. Mrs. Ernest Smith has given up her apartment here and will live in Montague. She will ride to work with Mrs. Lewis Wes ncr. Both are teachers at Hilt's elementary school. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Spannaus visited recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Palone in Klamath Falls. Mrs. Palone and Mr. Spannaus are brother and sister. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bonney, of Gold Hill, visited last Thursday and Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Gwinn. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Graves attended church Sunday morn ing at the Methodist church in Yreka. After church they visited at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Bob DeAvilla and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Jorgensen. Art Crawlev. of Livermore, was a dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. William Wiley one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Sief spent the week end in Mt. Shasta at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Jake Lindner. Aviation Machinist Mate Jerry Matcke, of Alameda Naval Air Base visited relatives here last week. He has reenlisted for an other six years. Mrs. Robert Russell, of Yreka. spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. William Wiley at their home on Cottonwood creek. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil La Rue and family left this week end for Arkansas, where they will make their home. They will stop in Texas to visit relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew S. Jones and children, of Richmond, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Black several days last week. They are former residents of Hilt. The third and fourth grade students, with the help of their teacher, Mrs. Brice Kohrer, gave a farewell party Friday after noon for two of their classmates, Roy Smith and Ray La Rue, who are moving away. Mr. and Mrs. Gus Martin of Klamath Falls, visited this week end at the home of Mrs. Martin's son, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Gwenn. Mrs. Agnes Cunial, who makes her home with her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Eastman and Paula, left Friday to spend several weeks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. "Bus" Perry and family of Yreka. Mrs. Perry is another daughter of Mrs. Cunial. SAM ELLIOTT Gold Hill The dedication and official naming of two Gold Hill Grade schools was held in a ceremony Nov. 14 in Gold Hill, according to H. P. Jewctt, super intendent of school district 6-C. The two schools named were the A. J. Hamby school, former ly the Gold Hill Grade school, and the Margaret E. Patrick school, which was constructed this year. Presentation of the flag was made by Frank Balch, David Malloy and Charles Johnson, fol lowed by a talk by Jewett. Alva Walker presented the bi ography of Margaret E. Patrick, a pioneer teaeher for whom the new elementary school is named. Mrs. Sybil Walker Paine pre sented a new American flag to the Patrick school. . The eighth grade presented a "then and now" style show. showing the change in clothing styles. This skit ended appro priately with Miss Judy Kimmey California, has been purchased by the Burns family of the south ern part of the state. The Sawyer brothers have purchased the Parker ranch near Callahan and will continue to raise cattle. Blair Smith will continue to manager the S.S. Bar ranch for the Sawyers and has moved his family to Callahan. Cpl. Jack Whiting, serving with the U.S. Air Force at Parks Air Base, is here on a furlough visiting with friends. He is sched uled to go to Japan upon his return. Mrs. Jimmie Cain gave a birth day party Wednesday for her daughter on her eighth birthday. After playing games and open ing gifts, refreshments of ice cream and cake were served. The following guests were present: Clara Williams. Paddy Ann Oakley. Yvonne Van De Weghe, Cynthia Mackey, Phyl lis Jordan, Elizabeth and Louise Johnson, Janet Cavin and Paula Eastman. pantomiming Elvis Presley. A biography and introduction of A. J. Hamby was then given by Alva Walker. Hamby was born in Beaver county, Penn. October 27, 1872. He came to Oregon in 1888 and after graduating from University of Oregon he taught in Oregon schools for 42 years. In 1900 he established the Central Point High school and in 1937 he be came vice president of the First Federal Savings and Loan asso ciation in Medford. Dr. Arthur Kreisman of SOC was then introduced by Jewett. The evening ended with guests going through the school seeing improvements made in the build ing and inspecting students work. Coffee and cookies were served in the school cafeteria.
