The council passed a motion to continue' a hearing on an nexation of the First Free Meth odist etiurch property, 126C South Peach st. It was decided to continue the hearing fter the Rer.- John M. Root, pastor of the church, told the council the. church, needed more time t secure the neces sary easements for sewer con nection purposes. Purpose of the annexation is for the church to connect its sewer facilities witn the cityystem. . Or&ntnc Adopted .Following-a hearing an ordi nance was adopted providing for an agriculture zone. The zone provides -that no building or land shall be used, erected or ; iaintarned within the agricul tural district except for eight U5. . 'The ordinance stated that buildings, cannot be erected un less ceriain property areas are maintained in connection "with such land uses- The zone does t pertain to present land uses, only future uses. , Resolutions were passed can vassing the official votes on the Berrydale and Grandview-Ken-wood annexation elections. The proposed Berrydale annexation was defeated 437- to 240. -The proposed Grandview-Kenwood annexation passed1 Tuesday 342 to 283. The resolutions were passed to conform to statutory provisions that require annexa tion votes be canvassed on the ' first meeting succeeding the election. 'The council passed in ordi nance adopting plana -for Mur phy rd. improvement. The road being developed ,by Mont Crest Development, ' Inc. George Field, Medford, is president. A certificate of completion of National do 405 Lexington Avenue Council Continues Ordinances Adopted the Installation of two sanitary sewers by the -W- H. Conrad Construction company, Medford, was accepted. The projects included sewer installation in block five. High croft addition, assessing benefit ing property owners S340 per lot: and in Valley View drive, with benefiting property owners being assessed $418 per lot. Engineer's estimate for High croft addition sewer was S378.50 per lot. and for the Valley View drive sewer 5349.25 per lot. Explaining why the assess ment for the Valley View drive sewer was 21 per cent over the engineer's estimate. Duff point ed out that small, three or four house projects are often the most expensive. Vern Thorpe, public works I director . said the assessment will be $69 per lot over the en , gineer's estimate. Four lots were serviced with the sewer on Val j ley View drive. I After the council tied four i votes to four on the adoption of ' an ordinance to establish an in surance service center in tne terminal building at the Med ford airport, Mayor Earl Miller decided to hold his vote until the next meeting. Mayor Miller j said he delayed his vote to give the council more time to con sider the ordinance. The ordin- j ance was requested by the air port sales corporation. The city has made tentative arrangements with Daily's U Drive service to manually write ! the insurance during the time i their office is open. The com i pany desires to enter into an agreement with the city to use in conjunction with Daily's Li Drive service, space to conduct this insurance business. The ' company has requested a 10-year contract but the city reduced it to five years. The '.permittee would pay monthly to j the city $24 or 13 per cent of the gross revenues derived each month from his operations on the airport premises. Indemnify City The company has agreed to indemnify the city and provide insurance in .the amount of $10, 000 in respect, ta injuries to any one person, $20,000 in respect to any one accident, and $1,000 for property damage. The city i&i currently under a non-exclusive contract with the Associ ated Aviation Underwriters for the mechanical writing of insur ance policies, in the airport building. Th council authorized the city to disburse funds to Kenneth G. Denman in payment for the Ashpole property clear zone at i the Medford airport. The owners j of the property have authorized j the city to pay to Denman the $20,250 tendered for the prop-'erty- Denman will disburse, the j funds to the various interests. The- council gave consent to assignment of gasoline sales at the Medford . airport to the 'LADIES BE WARNED , DON'T THROW AWAY GOOD ALUMINUM PASS! Reports coming to Better Business Bureaus indicate that many women are being upset by articles that have appeared in certain publicabcris-, or by men selling cooking utensils house-to-house, who are telling women that aluminum cooking utensils are bad for health-and should be thrown tway. , Sometime salesmen even make misleading tests to show in ap parently clouded condition of water boiled in aluminum. . The National Better Business Bureau assures yon that these storlef and tricky tests are entirely false and misleading. Prominent health authorities, including the United States Public Health Service, state that there is -absolutely no truth whatsoever in them. The Federal Trade Commission Yepeatedly has branded such state ment as false and its findings have been sustained by the Courts. The Rogue Flying service pur chased from the Medford Air service the business of supply ing aviation fuels at the Med ford airport. The oil company submittd for council approval consent of the assignment. On the recommendation of Duff a resolution was passed that parking be prohibited in front of the postoff ice between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Serious traffic congestions have been : occurring in front of the post- ' office on. Holly and Sixth sis., i Duff said. ' Request Granted A request was also granted ' the Jackson County Chamber of : Commerce for permission to in- I stall . signs reserving three : spaces for out of state cars at the chambers new. location at '. Soutn Central ave. and 11th st. On the recommendation of ' the traffic engineer a resolution ! was passed that iive parking meters on East Main st. between Almond and Tripp sts. be moved i to the Main st. bridge where parking spaces are now occu pied by all-day parkers. The council also called for a public hearing Nov. 20 on the change of zone on Grape st. from 10th to 11th sts., from a multiple family zone to limited commercial, including the west half of block 48 and the east half of block 51. The change in zone has been recommended the city planning commission- A request from Southern Pa cific was approved for the at tachment of a city cable to the Western Union telegraph com pany pole on the SP right-of-way for lines from the police fire alarm system. Ordinance Adopted Ordinances were adopted ac cepting certificates of comple tion from the Rogue Paving company, Medford, for paving of Boardman st. from McAn drews rd. to Ohio st.; Kenwood ave. from Humphrey St. to West Second St.; and Fairmont ave. from Summit ave. to the west end of the street. A Crestbrook water fund was established for installation of a six-inch water main on Crest brook rd. and on South Modoc ave. A petition was submitted bearing 30 names of east side property owners for the discon tinuance of the traffic light at Ashland ave. and East Main st. after 4:30 p.m. weekdays and to be off entirely during the week end. The council passed a resolu tion to accept the petition with the stipulation that no action be taken. Reason for no action on the petition was that the council felt the light was fulfilling a purpose there. The light was installed there originally be cause of numerous accidents at the intersection and for speed control, according to Duff.
