Allen Hill teaching. The old hay barn on the Molly Hay estate burned down last Monday. Cause of the fire is un known. Gene Mee, who has beea living on the place this past sum mer, was away at the time. The first meeting of the Apple- gate Health group was attended by 33 women. A film on "can cel" was shown and Dr. E. V. Meyerding, of Medford, spoke to the women on the various ways to detect cancer. A business meeting followed the discussion and the following officers were. elected: Mrs. Lawrence Tweedy, chairman; Mrs. Carter Hitbs, vice-chairman; Mrs. Don Gett-' ling, secretary - treasurer; Mrs. Three Western Congressmen Gel Committee Favor . Mors,. -seeking reelection ft Oregon, "Frank .Church, seeking a senate seat from Idaho, and Ms. Gracir Pfost, seeking reelection o to cungress from Idaho. o The non-partisan committee stated the "endorsements art based on "careful evaluation of the personal qualifications, ex perience and record in public life of the candidates. Each of those endorsed has demonstrated marked ctpacity and mature judgment. Ethical standards and the tone and quality of congress , will be elevated by their elec tion." Primary Consideration Primary considerations, they said, are "character, courage and ability," rather than adherence to any party or program. Others receiving the commit tee'! endorsement were John Sherman Cooper (R-Ky.), R. M. Evam (D-Ia.), Richard Stengel (D-Ill.), Claude Wickard (D-Ind.), and Alexander Wiley (R-Wisc), all candidates for the senate, and William H. Ayres (R-O.), James G. Fulton (R-Pa.), John W. Hes selton (R-Mass.), Eugene Mc Carthy (D-Minn), and Hugh Scott (R-Pa.). Richardson Named To Parole Board Salem (U.R) Gov Elmo Smith Saturday announced the appointment of James J. (Jim my) Richardson, Portland, as a member of the State Board of Parole and Probation. Richardson will fill the unex pired term of Harry V. Collins, Salem, who resigned effect i Dee. 1. Richardson has served for 29 years as general manager of th Multnomah Athletic club and Multnomah Stadium in Portland. Richardson was originally ap pointed by Gov. Douglas McKay in 1949 as a member of the, board. He was re-appointed in 1953 by Gov. Paul Patterson. Soon after" his re-appointment, however, he was forced to resign because of the pressure of business. The governor praised. Collins for his service on the board and thanked him for his constructive contribution. Richardson has been a leading figure in athletic nd civic affairs of Oregon for more than third of a century. He was varsity baseball coach and general man ager of athletics at Oregon State' college early in his sports ca reer and for a time was business manager of the Seattle Baseball club. He i a past president of the Oregon AAU and a member of the lS. Olympic Boxing Com mittee. More recently he has been vice chairman of trie Port-1 land Expition-Recreation com mission. Edward Milam, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mansel Milam, who has been stationed at San Fran cisco naval base, is leaving on an unknown assignment Kov. 3. Mrs. Harley Hall and her two daughters, Marlene and Judy, attended the Sunday school ral ly held at the Table Rock Sun day school recently. The rally was sponsored by the American Sunday school union. Others at tending were Mrs. Ray Widner and Bonnie and Billie Hard. Mrs. Dora Krouse recently re turned from her trip to Tule lake, where she visited Mrs. Ted Fish. A recent visitor at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mitchell "was A-C Eugene Ward, who has since returned to Hondo air base at San Antonio, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Poten of Medford recently visited Mr. and Mrs. Mansel Milam. The Applegate farmerettes have a trick that saves money on their household budget. When eggs are plentiful, Mrs. Joe Far land, an Applegate farmerette, breaks them into a container and freezes them for future use. When baking a cake that re quires one egg, Mrs. Farrand merely scoops out one table spoon of her frozen eggs and adds it to the batter. In this way, when egg prices are high, she is saving money. Mr. and Mrs.- Dave Winning ham -and family, together with Robert Webb, went to Seaside last .week- end. Mrs. Otis Buck and Mrs. Anna Scott attended the Town and Country breakfast . held at the Phoenix Grange last Tuesday. Mr', and Mrs. Lance Offen bacher announced the birth of a granddaughter last Monday. The parents of the baby are Mr. and Mrs. Walter Offenbacher, of Medford. Walter Offenbacher, who is the oldest son of the Lance Offenbachers. is a gradu ate of OTI, and is employed at the Haupert Tractor company as a diesel -mechanic. A recent house guest at the Frank Mitchell residence was Robert Spencer, of Medford. Rural Reflections: Now that the deer season is over, hunters have observed an abundance of deer peacefully munching on the crops again.
