Teachers to Hold Session Thursday The second meeting of the Medford City Teachers associa tion this fall will be held Thurs day, October 25, at 7:30 p.m. at Jefferson Crade school. At the last meeting Miss Nome Kimball was appointed representative to the annual fall conference of the Department of Classroom Teachers, Oregon Education association which will be held in Portland October 26 and 27. Officers for the group include Bob Newland, president. Med ford High school; Bob Phillips, vice president, Jefferson Grade school: Loren Soderlund, secre tary, Washington Grade school; and Mrs. Gertrude Holmes, Mc Loughlin Junior Hish school. Committee chairmen include Vcrn Wolthoff. legislation; Steve Bayless, public relations; Mel Boldenow, teacher welfare: Bob Sage, teacher education and professional standards: and Bob Phillips, social, program, and membership. Meeting Planned By Herb Society Eagle Point Rogue Valley Herb society will meet at the home of Mrs. Otto Nagel, one fourth mile east of Eagle Point on Brownsboro road, Tuesday, October 23. at 1:30 p.m. The ex ecutive board will meet at 1 p.m. Mrs. Sheppard of Shady Cove will speak and give a demostra tion on the subject "Frame Them." Newcomb. formerly of Medford and now of Gardens, Calif., honored their parents at a dinner which celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. The dinner was held October 7 at the home of Russell Newcomb. Rich mond. Calif., one of the Newcomb's sons. Seven Sons Honor Parents At Golden Wed dinq Day Party Gardena, Calif. Mr. and Mrs Nathan B. Newcomb, formerly of Medford and now of Gar dena, Calif., were honored by their seven sons October 7 with a buffet dinner celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary. The dinner, attended by all of their children, was held at the home of Russell Newcomb, ir. Richmond, Calif. Approxi mately 50 persons attended. For the occasion Mrs. New comb wore a beige lace dress with white jacket and a white orchid corsage, a gift from her sister, Mrs. Robert R. Taylor of Portland. Following tne dinner a deco rated cake was served. On the serving table chrysanthemums encircled the cake and was flanked by white tapers in cry stal candelabra. A driftwood "tree," hung with gold foil wrapped silver dollars complet ed the table decorations. Mr. and Mrs. Newcomb were married October 10. 1906 in Iowa. From 1920 until 1920 they made their home in Medford where Mr. Newcomb was em ployed in the wood business, now the Medford Fuel company. Former members of the First Presbyterian church here, they spend their vacations in Med ford besides making other trips to the area. The Newcomb's sons who gathered at the home of Russell Newcomb in Richmond includ ed: Paul Newcomb, 516 Dakota street, Medford; Peyton New comb, Talent; Tom Newcomb, Los Angeles; John Newcomb, Gardena; Nathan Newcomb Jr., Vista, Calif.; and Donald New comb, Bell, Calif. The couple have 24 grandchil dren and 12 great grandchildren. Gold Hill Plans Halloween Party Gold Hill Amethyst Rebek ah lodge of Gold Hill is planning the annual Halloween party for Gold Hill teachers. The Inde pendent Order of Odd Fellows, Past Noble Grands' club, Re bekah Friendship club. Gold Hill Grange, Gold Hill Garden club, the Lions and Veterans of Foreign Wars all are participat ing in the program to be pre sented. The party, for adults only, will be held at the IOOF Lodge hall at 8 p.m.. October 25. Prizes will be given for the funniest cos tumed man and woman and also for the most unusual costume. The best costumed couple will also receive a prize. Unmasking will be about 9 p.m. Every woman, with the exception of the teachers, is asked to bring a pie.. Highlight for the week for members of Woman's Society of Christian Service of First Meth odist church will come at 10:15 a.m., Tuesday, October 23. At that time Mrs. J. W. Poage will conduct a special service in the church chapel for the week of prayer and self-denial being ob served by Methodist women around the world. Women who will lead special meditations during the morning are Mrs. Donna Taylor, Mrs. George Trobough, Mrs. Walter Higgins and Mrs. L. B. Pierce. The projects to be aided by gifts from this observance include Holding Institute, Laredo, Texas, where all the buildings were washed away in the Rio, Grande flood in 1954. This school for Three Units Plan Coming Sessions; Law To Be Topic Rogue Elk, Willow Springs and Medford Parents Home Ex tension units will hold meetings this week. The meeting date of Medford Parents Home Extension unit has been changed to Monday, October 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. William Jensen, 502 South Holly street. Project for the evening will be given by Miss Maud Purvine, Corvallis, acting agent at large. The subject will be "Family Busi ness and the Law." Hostesses for the evening will be Mrs. Merle Scott and Mrs. Kenneth Phillips. Anyone interested in home ex tension work is cordially invited to attend. Anyone needing transporta tion may call Mrs. L. E. McCon nell, telephone 2-9130. Willow Springs unit will meet Thursday, October 23, at the j home of Airs. John a. Cota at 10:30 a.m. The project, "Making Sofa Cushions," will be given by Mrs. Ray Vogel and Mrs. Ar chie Purdy. Members are asked to bring dishes for a potluck dinner. Those whose last names begin with A through K are to bring the main dishes. L through P bring salads, R through T bring deserts, U through Z bring bread, pickles and relishes. Rogue Elk unit will meet Wed nesday, October 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the home of Mrs. George Tockstein. Big Buttee creek. Mrs. Morris Bush will preside over the business meeting, and a lesson on making sofa cushions will be given by Mrs. Frank Do lenshek and Mrs. Asbjorn My-klebye. Luncheon will be served at noon by the hostesses, Mrs. Hen ry Schuder, Mrs. Myklebye and Mrs. George Tockstein. Mexican children is being re built to serve the 325 students who were enrolled at the time of the flood. Also to receive aid from the gifts are the mission churches in Sumatra; leadership training institutes in Burma and Sara wak, Borneo; the formerly China-supported Methodist church in Sarawak; and Chris tian schools in the Philippines. Last year Methodist women in the United States gave S483.000 during this week of prayer and self-denial for world service projects. The regular monthly meeting of the society will be held the same day with Mrs. R. T. Har rison conducting the worship service and Mrs. Jessie Minear in charge of the program en titled "Volcanoes in Southeast Asia." Characteristics and prob lems' of countries of southeast Asia and the present situation of the church there will be de scribed by members of the so ciety.' Mrs. Ben Schmidtwill pre sent Formosa and Hong Kong; Mrs. Geneva Schwann, the Philippines; Mrs. Trobough, the countries of Indonesia and Ma laya; Mrs. L. B. Pierce, Sara wak; and Mrs. Oliver P. Taylor the country of Burma. At the close of the service a color film titled "Christian Roots in South east Asia" will be shown. This will picture schools, new vil lages, community projects, and refugee camps supported by Methodist women in Malaya, Burma and Hong Kong. A nursery for babies and one for pre-school children will be provided free of charge and all members and friends are in vited to attend the day's meet ings. A luncheon will be served at 12:30 p.m. by Mrs. Kenneth Knapp and members of Circle 11. PTA Postpones Benefit Dinner; Meetings Planned Eagle Point The Eagle Point Elementary Parent-Teacher as sociation spaghetti dinner that was planned for October 23 has been postponed until November. The regular meeting of the Elementary PTA will be held Tuesday, October 23, at 8 p.m. in the cafeteria in the elementary gymnasium. Campfire girls will provide child care for infants and pre-school children. A well baby cliniq will be held in the grade school library Wednesday, October 24, from 1 to 3 p.m. For appointments call Mrs. Harold Hanscom, VA-6-3859. The clinic is for children 6 months through school age. Monday, October 22, the room mothers will meet in the cafe teria to make plans for the year's activities and to familiarize themselves with the facilities in the new cafeteria. Sunday. Speech training will now be available through the club, named Jackson Toastmasters club, which will meet every Monday morning for breakfast at the Jackson hotel at 6:30 a.m. Medford Toastmasters club, which has been organized for several years, meets Mondays for dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the Medford hotel. Speakers for Medford Toast masters Monday evening meet ing will be Joe Platz, Galen Knox and Murray Dumas. Alter nate speaker will be Jim Foster. Toastmaster for the evening will be Russ Mitchell and Jack Canon will assign the topics for the group. The Jackson club will hear Larry "Horton, John C. Smith, and Gene Ray. Bill Wilson will be Toastmaster and provide top ics for speech training. There are openings in both clubs for those interested in im proving their speaking and sell ing ability, it is announced.
