McKinney of Eugene announce the engagement of their daughter, Ann, to Ray Bowler, son of Mrs. Lawrence Rentelman, 860 West McAn drews road, Medford, and Charles C. Bowler, Aberdeen, Wash. Miss McKinney and Mr. Bowl er are students at Northwest Christian college, Eugene. Mr. Bowler is a graduate of the University of Oregon. A summer wedding is planned. Rogue River, Wed nesday, October 24 at 11:15 a.m. From there they will leave for a tour of the Valley Nursery and Florist, Grants Pass, stop ping for lunch en route. Savage, Montague, have an nounced the engagement of their daughter, Mary Lea, to Frank E. Paul, Weed, Calif. The Sav ages formerly lived in Medford and her grandmother, Mrs. Mable C. Mrs. Ted McPherson and daughter, Terry Lynn, left Sat urday morning for San Diego, Calif., where they will join Mr. McPherson who is stationed at the U. S. Naval hosital there with the United States Navy. Mrs. McPherson is the former Miss Barbara Johnson, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter W. Johnson, 1702 West Main street. Mr. David. son is also a graduate of Med ford High school and is em ployed by Elk Lumber company. The wedding has been set for November. Ashland Woman Sorority Hostess Bea Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. John Selby, 140 Union street, Ashland. Mrs. Jack Canon assisted as co-host- s. The cultural program for the evening was presented by Mrs. DeVon Wray on "Her Crowning Glory". A graceful carriage, a fine figure and skin are what all women strive for, but topping them all is woman's "crowning glory", her hair, the speaker said. Hair styles go from long to short and back again, she added. In 1928 we had the wind blown look", in 1932 the glamour bob, 193S saw the page boy, 1940 the pompadour, 1945 the feather bob and 1954 the Italian boy cut. The hair plays an important part in every woman's life, the speaker said, and is an indica tion of personality. Mrs. Wray s hair had been styled and set for the evening by Mr. Larry of Craterian Beau ty salon. A dinner dance was planned by Beta Upsilon, the silver an niversary chapter here, to cele brate its first anniversary. It is set for October 26, at 8 p.m. at Mon Desir. October 28, at 2 p.m. a prefer ential tea will be held at the home of Mrs. Scott Davis, 1914 East Main street. This is in honor of rushees who have been invited to become members of Beta Upsilon chapter. All mem bers of the chapter will be host esses for the tea. A formal pledge ceremony will be held October 30th for new members, with a formal reception to follow in their hon or. Home Nursing Class Completed in Gold Hill Mrs. T. R. Florey, chairman of nursing services for Jackson County chapter, American Red Cross, announces the completion Carlene Christian Is Honored Guest At Shower Party Eagle Point Miss Carlene Christian, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Christian was honor ed at a bridal shower last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Caldwell. Miss Georgia Ma son and Miss Sandy Caldwell were co-hostesses to the 43 guests. It was also the birthday of the bride-elect and a decorated cake baked by Miss Caldwell was presented to the guest of honor. Miss Christian will marry Wil liam Henson, son of James Hen- sen, Camp White, and Mrs Henry Bohl of the Hollywood orchards. Mr. Henson is now on duty with the army at Fort Ord, California. The wedding will be solemnized during the Christmas season in Eagle Point. Miss Shirley Irvin And Albert Nixon Plan Winter Rites Butte Falls Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Irvin, Butte Falls, announce the engagement of their daugh ter, Shirley May Irvin, to Al bert H. Nixon, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Nixon, 2252 Barnett road, Medford. The wedding will be in December. Miss Irvin, who is on the staff of Sacred Heart hospital as a nurse's aide, makes her home at 1907 Prune street, Medford. She is a graduate of Butte Falls High school. Mr. Nixon is also on the staff of Sacred Heart hospital. Rushing Party Held on Tuesday By Alpha Betas Alapha Beta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held the annual rush ing party Tuesday. The party was a progressive dinner with a foreign lands theme. First course was served at the home of Mrs. L. K. Mor ris, whose theme was France. The second course, an Italian buffet dinner, was served at the Thomas Cardona home. Individ ual tables were set with red and white checked table cloths and Italian wax-dripped candles. Miss Jean Cardona served as hostess. The meal was prepared and served by Mrs. Fred E. Kruggel Jr., Mrs. L. K. Morris, Mrs. Herbert Haglund, Mrs. Paul Garren, Mrs. Fred Johnson and Mrs. Irving Thompson. Mrs Thomas assisted. Dessert was served in a Ha waiian atomsphere at the home of Mrs. O. A. Eden. Two auth entic Hawaiian torches illum inated the entrance where each girl was given the traditional lei and hibiscus blossom.A com plete Hawaiian village and man ikin in hula dress adorned the rooms. Games adapted to the theme were played. Mrs. Austin Murray and Mrs. Herbert Rob bins served on the committee. Rushees present were Mrs. D. G. MacDougall, Mrs. T. L. The rushees were invited to a model meeting to be held at the home of Mrs.. Thomas Car dona, Tuesday, October 23, at 8 p.m. of a course in home care of the sick in Gold Hill. The class was conducted by Mr. Irene Johnson. Certified were Mrs. Evelyn Thompson, Mrs. Paul Molloy, Mrs. lone Buchanan, Mrs. Blanche Merri man and Mrs. Blossom M. Gov ernor. Port land, where Mr. Frey is em ployed by the architectural firm, Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. For the last two years he was a first lieutenant in the United States Air Force stationed at the - Engineering development center, Tullahoma, Tenn. Mrs. Frey is the former Miss Venita Roberson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Roberson of Ashland. Lady Lions Plan Luncheon, Show In Central Point Central Point "Things to Come" will be the theme of a dessert luncheon and style show to be given by Central Point Lady Lions Thursday, Novem ber 8, at the Central Point Jun ior High school gymnasium. Pre-holiday fashions will be shown by Mann's department store and the Music Mart will furnish organ music. Proceeds from the luncheon and style show will go to the sight and blind conservation fund and the Lions' kindergar ten.
