1 Kefauver Accuses Ike of Forcing Down Farm Prices Joplin, Mo. UP; Sen. Estes Kefauver stepped up his attack on President Eisenhower's farm policies today in this normally Republican Ozark area before winging into the parched farm areas of nearby Kansas. The Democratic vice presiden tial candidate accused Mr. Eisen hower of forcing down farm prices and jacking up interest rates to benefit big business. Turntd Back "The Republican Party of President Eisenhower has turn ed its back on main street," he aid in a prepared speech, "and takes its cue from Wall Street." "If Teddy Roosevelt were alive today and could see what President Eisenhower is doing to give away the natural water power resources of this country to private monopoly interests, he'd leave the Republican Party quicker than Wayne Morse," Kefauver said. End Bomb Tests The Tennessee senator flew here today after serving notice Wednesday night in Springfield, Mo., that he would continue to speak up for an end to super bomb tests despite President Eis enhower's "truly astonishing ef forts to shut off discussion of the horror which faces all man kind." Later today, Kefauver sched uled an address on the state house steps at Topeka, Kan., and at Garden City, Kan., before flying to Las Vegas, Kev. Democratic candidate for governor of Oregon, continues his attack on the state voting record of his opponent: Governor Elmo Smith. Let's take a look at that. In a pamphlet designed to make votes for Holmes, the Ore gon State Labor Council pre sents in what is known as the "deadly parallel" the voting rec ords of Holmes and Governor Smith during the time when both were members of the Oregon state senate. Here is one of the comparisons in the pamphlet: "Holmes voted AGAINST a million-dollar appropriation for an UNDESIRABLE vocational training school (HB 550. V "Smith voted FOR an unde sirable vocational training school (HB 550.)" Porter. Dockworkers Choose Expelled Association New York IU.R) More than 20.000 New York and New Jer sey dockworkers chose without violence Wednesday the Interna tional Longshoremen's Associ ation, expelled from the AFL in 1953 for its ties with rack eteering, as its waterfront bar gaining agent The dockworkers, all on good behavior, marched by the thou sands into six metropolitan poll ing places to choose between the ILA and the International Broth erhood of Longshoremen, AFL CIO. The ratio for the ILA was 3 to 2 with 20,000 of about 22.000 eligible longshoremen casting their votes. More than 1,000 uniformed and plainclothes police guarded the polling areas for the Nation al Labor Relations Board which supervised the election. ! Nixon Claims Adlai ' Unwilling to Take Responsibility En Route With Nixon U.R Vice President Richard M. Nix on said today Adlai E. Steven son is unwilling to accept the vast responsibility which goes with leadership. Foul Weather The first foul weather Nixon has met in his second 10,000 mile flight through America's golden autumn forced a change 1 in his plans. Unable to land in j Providence, R.I., Wednesday j night, he and his party flew to i Worcester, Mass., from Ithaca, N.Y., and set out for Providence by limousine and bus after mid night. ; They first had tried to land in Boston, but gave up after one pass at the field. Aides feared the weather might cancel some scheduled outdoor speeches on his motor-1 cade route today from Provi-1 dence to New York City through I Norwich, Middletown, New Ha-; ven and Bridgeport, Conn. Cast Off Role Nixon planned tonight to cast off his campaigner's roll and make a non political speech at the Alfred E. Smith memorial dinner in New York, honoring the memory of .the former New York governor and 1928 Demo cratic presidential nominee. But today he hit Stevenson as a peddler of "gloom and doom" who is "selling our econ omy short." He called Stevenson a "trial and error leader" and contrasted him with what he termed Presi- j dent Eisenhower's "wise, firm leadership'' in defense and in ternational affairs. .
