He Nixon Woos Labor On Whirlwind Trip Through Indiana En Route with Nixon U.R Vice President Richard M. Nix on whipped his whirlwind cam pagin through Indiana toward New York state today, wooing labor and radiating confidence. What put the magic in the new kind Dutch Press Steps Up Demands on Royalty The Hague, Holland flJ.R) The Dutch press stepped up its demands today that something be done to solve the crisis threat ening Holland's royal family. For the second day Dutch newspapers strongly criticized officials for their handling of the rift reported between Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard. The trouble originally started over the Queen's friendship with faith healer Greet Hofmans. The latest uproar was touched off by the London Sunday Pictorial, which said top court officials in formed the newspaper of a plot to force the queen to abdicate. The alleged plot also involved Prince Bernhard's mother, Prin cess Armgard of Lippe-Biester-feld, the newspaper said. Dr. I. G. .Van Maasdijk. the queen's chamberlain, denied giv ing the story to the Pictorial, but the Dutch press refused today to be satisfied with his explanation. Scientists Support Stevenson's Proposal To End H-Bomb Tests Pasadena, Calif. (U.R) Ten top California Institute of Tech nology scientists, who warn that "time is running out," today backed Adlai Stevenson's pro pdsal to seek an end to H-bomb tests. The scientists, including Dr. Carl D. Anderson, Nobel Laur eate in physics for 1934, issued a joint-statement Sunday support ing Stevenson's proposal and taking issue with President Eis enhower's expression of regret that the question had become a campaign issue. No Other Guarantee ". . . After 10 years of nego tiations, the world has no other guarantee of survival than the tenuous hope that no nation will pull the trigger for fear of com mitting national suicide," they warned. "Time is running out, with an implacability that we ignore at our peril." They said that Stevenson's proposal for the United States to take the lead in seeking an end to H-bomb tests "might be a use ful way to get the negotiations out of the deadlock stage." CRATER LAKE MOTORS MAIN AND FIR STREETS PHONE 3-4547 Tuesday. October 18. 1958 Commenting on President Eis enhower's stand, the scientists said: "We find it regrettable that discussions of our military strength, of our vulnerability and our foreign policy in rela tion to H-bombs have thus far represented such a small propor tions of current politicial discus sions." Inadequate Attention They said that arguments that halting H-bomb tests would al low Russia to out-distance the U.S. in nuclear development or would endanger national secur ity "give inadequate attention to . . . the urgency of dealing immediately with the peril that confronts the world . . ." The next four years could de termine whether civilization sur vives or dies," the , scientists warned. BRITISH GET DC-7C Santa Monica, Calif. Here's what put the magic in the new kind ot FORD ! It all started with the new "Inner Ford." When Ford engineers planned this baby, they didn't just think in terms of new springs, new brakes, new axles. They thought in terms of a car through-and-through new. The wheels got smaller. Yes, this new Ford is so new in every detail that even the wheels have changed. Now smaller and broader for a better grip on the road, they help you take off quickly . . . give you a better ride. The wheelbase got longer ... in fact Ford offers two wheel bases, both longer than any in its field. So now you can choose between a Ford that's over 16 ft. long or one that's over 17 ft. long! The frame got wider. Side rails bow out and dip down between front and rear wheels to give a more stable, safer riding platform ... a lower, sleeker silhouette. The ride got smoother. With new suspension, new springing front and rear, the ride this new Ford gives you is the closest you'll ever come to coasting on velvet-covered clouds. And that holds true on back roads, too! The handling got easier . . . and no wonder! This new, lower Ford with stiffer frame is poised and balanced like a panther. And the new swept-back front suspension works its magic when you need it most. The power got hotter. This new kind of Ford is packed with Thunderbird GO! It offers a wide range of Silver Anniversary V-8's to fit every horsepower need . . . plus a new version of the famous Mileage Maker Six. The roof got lower. You can shake hands with admiring friends over the roof of this low, low Ford. No wonder it clings to the road like a coat of paint. And it's designed to let you make the easy entries and graceful exits you've always known. The body got quieter. As a matter of fact, it's the strongest body ever built for a low-priced car. It's built to keep its new car "tightness" longer. And no car in Ford's field has such generous sound-proofing. The room got bigger. There's head room to spare for a tycoon-type hat. There's real stretch-out leg room, too, even for six-footers. And there's shoulder space for six big passengers. The lines got sweeter. They have the Touch of Tomorrow. Ford gives you the longest, lowest, low-priced car ever. Each graceful contour, every long, low, lance-like line of its sculptured-in-steel body says, "Let's go!" The style got smarter. With this new-look hew Ford you have a car that belongs anywhere! For example: all Fairlane models, including the sedans have the look of a hardtop. The value got greater . . . and the price is still Ford-low. The result even more promise of buying a car that will keep its value high .. . . a car that will stay worth more. The 82-year-old poet chatted with newsmen before reading some of his poems at the Cor coran Gallery. "I'm afraid of those big men always in a hurry," he said, talk ing about U.S. presidents.
