Bicycle Taken Michael Petrr Gardner, 818 Grants St., Mod ford reported the theft of his bi cycle Friday niaht, according to ;city police. The racer type bicycle had no city license, it was reported. Money Taken Robert Wil liam Carter, San Francisco, Calif., has reported to city po lice the theft of S500 from th trunk of his auto while it was parked in the Medford hotel parking lot Saturday. He report ed the theft at 7:15 a.m. At Colltga Robert F. Wil cox of Medford is enrolled as a senior veterinarian medicine at Colorado AiM college at Ft. Collins, Colo., under the pro gram of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Educa tion. About 200 students from eight western states are being educated in professional schools under the program. Offica Motn Glen L. Crescent City, Calif., was admit ted to Rogue Valley hospital about 3 p.m. yesterday after be ing flown to Medford by air plane from Crescent City. He was taken to the hospital by Medford ambulance service. Mrs. Mac Arthur's sister, who lives in Mt. Kisco, New York, has four chil dren, three boys and a girl. The MacArthur and Simmons fami lies have been frequent visitors to Oregon where they both were born. Central Point, about 1:40 a.m. yesterday when their home was badly damaged by fire, according to the Central Point rural fire department. Firemen said the roof of the house was completely burned off and that the living room, din ing room and kitchen were dam aged considerably. There was al so water damage to two of the three bedrooms, it was reported. Apparent course of the fire, according to firemen, was due to a faulty fireplace. Mr. and Mrs. Reum are now living with neighbors, they said. No injuries were reported. News About Servicemen RETURNS FROM LEAVE Walter F. B. Gibbs, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Gibbs. 1375 South Columbus ave., Medford. has re turned to duty at the Hamilton Air Force base, San Francisco, after spending 30 days leave with his parents. Gibbs who attended public schools in Medford prior to en listing in 1953, plans to attend business college after his dis charge from the Air Force in January. GETS PROMOTION Ronald L. Juniper, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Juniper, 1020 South Peach St., has been promoted in the Army ROTC department at the University of Oregon. He was named a platoon leader with the rank of cadet first lieutenant. IN HAWAII Army Major Galen C. Morey, son of Mrs. E. E. Collom, 2637 Table Rock rd., Medford, recent ly arrived in Hawaii for duty with the 25th infantry division. Major Morey. former student at the University of Oregon, en tered the Army in 1942 and has been awarded the Bronze Star medal with three Oak Leaf clus ters and the Commendation ribbon. Included in the display are a number of editions of the Bible "Standard Revised Version;" ''Modern Reader's Bible:" "The Bible; an American Transla tion;'' "The Bible, for Today;" and "The Bible Designed to be Read as Living Literature." Abridged versions include a "Digest of the Bible," arranged and edited by Peter V. Ross: "The Short Bible." an American translation edited by Edgar J. Goodspeed and J. M. Powis Smith; and "The Book of Books," the King James version of theh English Bible abridged and arranged for younger read ers. French. Spanish French and Spanish transla tions of the Biblp are also availa ble at the library for patrons who read most easily in these languages. Retelling Bible Stories Especially interesting to young people is Louis Paul's colorful Showers Soak Area Of Rocky Mountains By UNITED PRESS Most of the eastern half of the nation basked under sunny skies and balmy temperatures Satur day while showers soaked the Rocky Mountain states and the area around the Gulf of Mexi co. Warm air moved into the Eastern Seaboard from Maine to Georgia. It was also sunny and warm from the Ohio Valley west to the Great Lakes and Mississippi Valley. Spasmodic showers sprinkled Louisiana, Alabama and surrounding states however, and the Rocky Moun tain states were in the grips of cooler air and drab showers. Light snow was expected over portions of Montana. The mercury dipped slightly from the Rockies west to the Coast. It was generally sunny west of the Mountain States, but there were hints of off-and-on showers over the Pacific Northwest. King Paul Foregoes Allowance Increase Athens, Greece (U.R) King Paul said Saturday he will fore go the private allowance in crease granted him by ParlU ment this week and will cut ex penses instead. Parliament increased the roy al family allowance by one-half, raising it to $397,000. The King said he decided against accept ance because of accusations of overspending and criticism of his pleasure trips. Troops Guard River Threatening New Delhi New Delhi, Indian (U.R) Troops stood guard Saturday along the Jumna River which threatened this capital city with the worst floods since 1924. Engineers said the water level was rapidly approaching the 1924 flooding point which re sulted in most of the city being submerged. Eight Delhi villages already were under water and 3.000 persons had to be evacuated. "Heroes, Kings, and Men," a re telling of the Bible stories .in continuous narrative featuring the leading characters of heroes, kings, and men from the time of Abraham to the crucifixion.- Late novels based upon Bible characters and Bible history in clude "The Scarlet Cord," by Frank Slaughter, the story of the much maligned woman of Jericho. The complex and mod ern personality of Paul of Tarsus has been caught by Henrietta Henkle (Buckmaster) in her re cent novel. U.R) The bigamy case of a tan-skinned farmer accused of marrying two Negroes and a white woman may go to trial for the third time next week.
