Lehman (D N.Y.) asked Defense Secretary Charles Wilson to investigate a charge that Negro servicemen at Donaldson Air Force Base and Fort Jackson, S.C., are being denied educational courses. Charges Deliberate Slap A segregationist leader ac cused the Navy of deliberately "slapping us in the face'' in sell ing tickets to the Tulane football game without regard to race. Louisiana's new law banning racial mixing of spectators at athletic events does not go into Tulane-Navy game Saturday. A Navy spokesman said, "We have always sold available tickets to anyone who applied. J. B. Easterly, head of the Southern Gentlemen, said "The people of Louisiana believe that Navy and that's the federal government'' ignored the state's racial customs "with ma licious intent." En Route With Kefauver (U.PJ Sen. Estes Kefauver told an Iowa farm audience today the Eisenhower administration has fostered a hero worship of big businessmen. "They are the golfing compan ions of the President and the men who come to dinner at the White House," the Democratic vice presidential candidate said. He made the statement in a speech prepared for delivery at a luncheon meeting in Indianola, Iowa. Kefauver said the people of Iowa have been caught, during the Eisenhower administration "in a serious cost-price squeeze." He predicted that under admin istration policies "things are go ing to get worse." Wait and See "If you think prices are high now just wait a few months," the slow spoken Tennessean said. He quoted published predic tions that 1957 auto prices will be up $125 to $250 and house hold appliances 10 per cent high er. He said farmers, under the forecasts, will have to pay $100 to $200 more for tractors with gasoline prices in some areas "edging close to the incredible level of 40 cents a Rallon." He said Mr. Eisenhower, "if he really wants to protect the American consumer," could per sonaly ask business leaders to curb their drive for profits. He said the President could direct appropriate agencies to find out and report on what corporations are profiteering "and by how much." Britain carried out its first nu clear weapon air-drop at the Maralinga Proving Grounds in southern Australia today, it was announced. Australian Minister of Supply Hoard Bcale said the bomb was released from a Valient jet bomber. . It was the third nuclear de vice to be detonated during the current series of tests at the prov ing grounds by the British min istry of supply. Scientists said they expected the latest test to result in less fallout than the previous blasts because minute radioactive par ticles would remain high in the atmosphere. Klamath Indians Subject To State Tax Klamath Falls U.R) Officials of the Klamath Indians said to day that a ruling handed down by the attorney general's office means that members of the In dian tribe are subject to an Ore gon state inheritance tax. William Dougherty, special as sistant attorney general in charge of taxes, made the ruling at the request of local attorneys. Chinese Students Serenade Nixon At San Francisco En Route With Nixon (U.R) Vice President Richard M. Nixon turned his second coast to coast campaign flight eastward today, but he couldn't be blamed if he thought his stops in Nevada and Colorado a little drab after San Francisco. Nixon was probably the first national candidate to be serenad ed by a Chinese high school drum and glockenspiel corps playing "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling." Or to be nuzzled by a 250-foot cloth dragon ablaze with electric lights. All this took place on the eve of Nixon's departure. He left this morning for Elko, Nev., and Boulder and Denver, Colo. Rugged Barnstorming Tour Nixon met the dragon just be fore he made his seventh speech in a rugged 18-hour of barn storming through northern Cali fornia. He rode in a parade through Chinatown's "Double Ten" (Fourth of July) celebra tion watched by an estimated 30,000 persons, and then spoke from the reviewing stand. The vice president pledged that his party would never "give away hope" that China and oth er captive peoples of the Com munist bloc would someday be free. Nixon said Stevenson's sug gestions for' ending the draft and hydrogen bomb tests "would tre mendously increase the chances for war or surrender or both." Judge Lonergan Eyed Disqualification of Portland (U.R) District Attor ney William M. Langley today sought to have Circuit Judge Frank J. Lonergan disgualified from hearing any part of two cases against Langley which arose after the recent Multno mah county grand jury investi gation. Langley filed two motions yes terday afternoon in the clerk's office of the Circuit Court.
