The latest batch of Korean orphans to come to this country under the auspices of Creswell farmer Henry Holt arrived here yesterday. Molly Holt, 21-year-old daugh ter of the volunteer humanitar ian, shepherded the latest group of 18 waifs across the Pacific. Her father remained in this coun try to line up adoptions for fu ture arrivals. Miss Holt started from Seoul. Korea, with 25 orphans. At Hono lulu, seven of the contingent boarded another plane for homes in the Los Angeles area while the others continued their flight to Portland. Two of the children will go to homes in Kansas City, Ma and Detroit while the others will remain in homes in this area. Laxity on Traffic Violations Debated Salem !U.R Failure of some courts to report traffic viola lions convictions and to impose penalties on drivers caught driv ing after license suspensions came under fire at a meeting of the State Traffic Safety Commis sion here. The commission recommended that these and other '"weak spots" in the state's accident pre vention program be subjected to detailed study for legislative and public attention. Commission members were told that although Oregon law requires judges to submit ab stracts of all court convictions to the motor vehicle department, some courts were "extremely lax in complying. " Italian Jets Fly Over Rome Jesting Ike Plan Rome (U.R) Fifty Italian Air Force planes criss-crossed over Rome in a huge photographic operation today to test the prac ticability of President Eisen hower's "open sky" plan for world disarmament. The F34 jet planes of Italy's Third Air Brigade are photo graphing the entire city. Italy was the first country outside the United States to test the practicability of such wide- scale aerial photography. Amer ican officials in Rome said the move took them by surprise. WOLGAMOTT Vance K. Wolgamott, 77, died about 6 a.m. today at the Rien heit Memorial hospital in Wheel er. He underwent surgery there recently. Mr. Wolgamott, who came to southern Oregon from Missouri in a covered wagon when he was three years old, lived in the Jacksonville area during the early days of Jacksonville. He was a minister in the first church constructed in Jackson ville, and was well-known in the valley as an orchardist. He once owned what is now the Ginger Rogers ranch off High way 62 between Eagle Point and Shady Cove. He moved from the valley about eight years ago. Mr. Wolgamoft is survived by two sons. Elvin Wolgamott, Med ford. and Walt Wolgamott, Cres cent City, Calif.; two daughters. Mrs. Bert Hartley, Sand Point. Idaho, and Mrs. Walt Randolph, Nehalem: a brother. W. F. The World Series, in its last game, continued to make inroads into volume, however, and the increase over Tuesday's three year low in turnover was a small one. Humphrey Bogarl Reveals Malignancy Hollywood (U.R) Actor Humphrey Bogart revealed Tues day night that he was recover ing from an operation on his esophagus that nearly "killed me" last spring. The gruff voiced film star said the operation was a success and he hoped to return to his movie career as soon as he regains 30 pounds in weight. Bogart has not made a picture for about a year. '"The operation damn near killed me," Bogart said, "It was a mighty rough go and I'm still not in top shape. But they got all of the malignancy in a two inch piece they cut out Of my esophagus." Carrier Forrestal Has Damaged Turbine Blade Washington (U.R) The Navy said today that the supercarrier Forrrcstal damaged the blades on one of its four turbines and has put in a Norfolk, Va. for repairs. Cause of the damage is being investigated, the Navy said. The 60.000-ton vessel, first of the supercarriers, was operating off the Atlantic Coast when the damage was discovered. The ves sell headed for port immediately and put in at Norfolk on Mon day. The Navy said it does not know how long the carrier will be laid up. . Mrs. Bartol Injured In Car, Train Crash Mrs. Gwen Arlene Bartol, 16, of .271 High st., Ashland, was in jured about 7:50 a.m. today when the car which she was driving collided with a Southern Pacific railway engine at a crossing at Bear Creek orchards, according to state police. She was taken by Medford Ambulance service to Rogue Valley hospital. Ambulance at tendants said she suffered leg and arm injuries. Police said the engineer was Floyd Bowley, 149 Helman st., Medford. '7':t ii f The IBBf 'HE Wednesday, October 10, 19S8 140 Appointments Made for Bloodmobile Approximately 140 people had made appointments this morning to donate blood between 1 and 5 p.m. today, according to Red Cross officials. The Bloodmobile will be at the Elks club in Medford be tween 1 and 5 p.m. Officials said donors were still coming in to the Red Cross office today to make appointments. The Med ford Lions club has solicited 100 donors. A total of 250 donors will be necessary to meet Med ford's quota. Officials empha sized that drop-in donors would be welcome this Afternoon. Residents of the Shady Cove area donated 70 pints of blood yesterday. This was 30 pints under the quota. Officials par tially attributed failure to meet the quota to the fact that many residents are deer hunting out of town. Representatives of the petrol eum industry in Jackson county have solicited blood donors from the industry for the Bloodmo bile visit today. (U.R) Harry W. Stevens has added a new fish story to the nearly 100 year family record of guiding in Lake Ontario waters. Stevens made a leisurely cast from a dock near the center of this famous bass fishing spot. Four hours and 50 minute later and nearly exhausted, he com pleted it. The prize a nine-pound carp. The marathon battle not only added to the Stevens family lore but raised the '"coarse" carp con sideraly in the esteem of local anglers. Normally a bottom-feeder attracted by baits of dough, potatoes or other food particles, it was considered a rarity for the carp to rise to artificial lure. Stevens used a five - pound leader, a spinning reel, glass rod and the artificial lure to land the fish.
