Frie sen, 115 Reager street, announce the engagement of their daugh ter, Lois, to William Parker, son of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Park er of Tacoma, Wash. Mi.s Friesen is employed by the W. A. Whitelaw Candy com pany in Medford. Mr. Parker is a machinist at Ft. Lewis, Wash. The wedding will take place in November. Medford Woman To Preside for Temple Session Mrs. Harry Bryant, Medford, grand chief of the Pythian Sis ters, will conduct grand temple sessions at Bend, Ore., October 7. 8 and 9. The sessions will in clude district reports of the past year's activities, election of offi cers for 1956-57, installation of new officers, and general reports and activities. Mr. arid Mrs. Bryant left Sat urday. The Medford temple met last Tuesday evening for a business session. The refreshment com mittee was Mrs. Morley Lamp, Mrs. Arnold Motschenbacher and Mrs. Mildred Tolle. The next reg ular meeting will be October 16, with the Pythian anniversary to be observed. Past Chiefs' club of Pythian Sisters met last Wednesday for a covered dish luncheon. Fall and Winter Program Planned By Junior Posse Fall and winter events were planned by Junior posse mem bers at their October meeting Thursday evening. The first will be a "backward" Halloween party scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27 at the posse club house. The young men are to dress as girls and the young women as boys. Members, parents and friends are invited. A contest to be conducted dur ing winter meetings and to begin at the November session, also was planned. Questions will con cern nomenclature and other in formation on horsemanship and horses and will be prepared by Mrs. Iris Dodge, who also will conduct the contest. Questions and answers will be posted at the club house for study by the members and the contest will be held between two teams of mem bers. The Junior group met Satur day, Sept. 29 for a social evening of dancing and games held at the club house. 4 Medford Student Member of Choir Dick' Arnold, freshman . at Lewis and Clark college, has been chosen a member of the college choir. The student sang last year in the Medford High school double quartet and par ticipated in a number of other musical groups. He is majoring in music edu cation at the school. Young Arn old is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur A. Arnold, 1011 Reddy avenue. Leaves Mrs. W. W. Deakins, 2008 Westerlund drive, left today by plane for Texas where she will spend two weeks visiting rela tives. She will be with a sister in Dallas, and visit her mother in Temple. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Up church, married Septemebr 14 in Reno, Nev., were honored September 16 at a reception giv en by the bride's sister, Mrs. E. C. Butcher. 925 King street. Mrs. Unchurch is the former Miss Patty Hall of Shady Cove. Couple Married In Reno Service The First Methodist church in Reno, Nevada, was the setting September 14 for the wedding of Miss Patty Hall of Shady Cove and Herbert Upchurch of Finley, Okla. The bride wore a Navy blue suit with white accessories for her wedding. In Reno for the ceremon were the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Hall, and the bride's sister and brother-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Colpitts, 808 West Jackson, Medford. The bride is a graduate of Eagle Point High school. Mr. Upchurch, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lesley Upchurch, is a grad uate of Nashoba High school and attended Southeastern State college in Durant, Okla. The newlywed couple are making their home in Glendale, Ore., where the bridegroom is em ployed by the Dollar and Pat terson Milling company. September 16 they were hon ored at a reception in Medford given by the bride's sister,- Mrs. E. C. Butcher, 925 King st. Miss Caldwell And Jack Quails Engaged to Wed Mr. and Mrs. Seth Caldwell, 715 Lozier lane, announce the engagement of their daughter Kathleen, to Jack Quails, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Quails, Sel- ma, Calif. Miss Caldwell is a graduate of Medford High school and is now attending Pasadena college where Mr. Quails is also a student. The wedding date has been set for next June. Miss Kathleen Caldwell Methodist Guild To Hold Meeting At Stratton Home The October meeting of Sus annah Wesleyan guild will be held at the home of Mrs. Richard Stratton, 411 East Pine street, Monday, October 8, at 8 p.m. Miss Mary Durham will lead the discussion for the program, "The Christian Citizen Looks at Elec tion Issues." Susannah Wesleyan Service guild is a fellowship of young employed women to age 35 and its membership is open to any one in this age group who wishes to join. Agent Established for Great Western Here Leonard J. Kuckelman, 308 Sutter St., Medford, has been ap pointed first district freight agent for Medford of the Chi cago Great Western Railway company, according to Frank P. Wagner, freight traffic manager of the company, St. Paul, Minn. Kuckelman has been a freight agent in Los Angeles for the last three years. He will operate as freight agent out of his home un til the company establishes an office in Medford. Oregon Woman Is Honored by British Society Salem An invitation to membership in the Royal Society of Health of England, was re ceived this week by Mrs. Jen nelle Moorhead, Eugene, profes sor of health education for gen eral extension division of the Oregon State System of Higher Education. Mrs. Moorhead has been in vited to Ordinary membership, the highest grade of membership to which any person may be el ected. The society, founded in 1876, is under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and the presidency of the Right Honourable Lord Percy of New castle. ciety may use the designation M.R.S.H. and receive a distinc tive certificate of election bear ing the royal society's coat of arms in full color as granted by the College of Heralds under letters patent. Mrs. Moorhead, a well-known Oregon PTA leader, has been as sociated with the state system of higher education since 1945, and with General Extension Division since 1948. She holds a bachelor's degree from Willamette univer sity and a master's from the Uni versity of Oregon. The author of many publica tions and articles on health edu cation. Professor Moorhead was recently appointed to the nation al commission for UNESCO. Student Ranks High In Placement Test Forest Grove David Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Davis, 310 Genessee street, Medford, placed in the top 23 of his class at Pacific university in the place ment exams given to the fresh men during the first week of school. As a result of this achievement young Davis is excused from the first semester of English compo sition. He is a graduate of Med ford Senior high school where his activities included tennis. . Star Chapters to Receive Visit From Grand Associate Matron Mrs. Dick Hibberd, Imbler, Ore., grand associate matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Ore gon, will visit valley chapters Oc tober 11 and 12. Thursday October 11 Mrs. Hib berd will conduct a school of in struction during the regular meeting of Reames chapter at 8 p.m. in Medford Masonic hall. Alpha chapter, Ashland, will also participate in this meeting. The two chapters will hold a potluck dinner at 6 o'clock in the Masonic social hall. Reames chap ter members will furnish hot dishes; Alpha chapter members salads and desserts. Friday, October 12, Mrs. Hib berd will visit a meeting Nevita and Adarel chapters to be held in the Central Point Masonic tem ple at 8 p.m. A potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. will precede the ses sion. Friday afternoon Mrs. Melvin McGrew, matron of Nevita chap ter, and Mrs. Clare Shores, Adar el matron, will give a tea at Mrs. McGrew's home on the Jackson ville highway in Mrs. Hibberd's honor. Members of the two chap ters and a number of other guests have been invited to attend, and hours are from two to four o'clock. Other Eastern Star meetings are also scheduled this week. Nevita chapter will hold a stat- Sojourners Plan Heirloom Display A display of heirlooms will be featured at a meeting of Med ford Sojourners' club Thursday, October 11, at the Pythian hall at 12:30 p.m. All newcomers to Medford and vicinity are cord ially invited to attend and be come members. Club members are asked to take antiques, heirlooms, or iental articles or other objects of interest for display during the refreshment hour. A com mittee composed of Mrs. A. L.
