(International) Flagpole Sitter Burned by Lightning Miami (U.R) It took a hook and ladder rig and stern orders from Henry Bass, 38, down from his 50-foot flagpole platform Tuesday after he was struck by lightning. Bass was burned on the hands. neck, throat and head when a searing blast of lightning struck his flagpole during a thunder storm. But when firemen reach ed him, he refused to come down except on "orders from the sher iff's department." Bass had been on the flagpole 25 days advertising a suburban supermarket and had hoped to break the world flagpole sitting record of 169 days. Firemen finally ordered him down and Bass was taken to a hospital where he was listed in satisfactory condition. BIRTH BRINGS BENDER Maywood, N.J.
