Flagpole Sitter
Burned by Lightning
Miami (U.R) It took a hook
and ladder rig and stern orders
from Henry Bass, 38, down from
his 50-foot flagpole platform
Tuesday after he was struck by
lightning.
Bass was burned on the hands.
neck, throat and head when a
searing blast of lightning struck
his flagpole during a thunder
storm. But when firemen reach
ed him, he refused to come down
except on "orders from the sher
iff's department."
Bass had been on the flagpole
25 days advertising a suburban
supermarket and had hoped to
break the world flagpole sitting
record of 169 days.
Firemen finally ordered him
down and Bass was taken to a
hospital where he was listed in
satisfactory condition.
