Clinic Open The chest x-ray clinic at Sacred Heart hospital will be open Thursday after noon betwee-. 2 and 5 p.m., ac cording to the Jackson County Public Health association, which operates the clinic. The associa tion urges every adult to have a chest x-ray at least once a year, A small charge is made to cover operating costs. Engineer Exams The Federal Civil Service commission has announced an examination for construction superintendent and construction inspector positions located with various federal agencies in Washington, Oregon Idaho and Montana. Parents Invited Members of the Jacksonville Teenagers club have invited their parents to their regular Wednesday night dance, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. today in the Jacksonville Community hall. Music will be by juke box. The dance is ex pected to end at 9:30 p.m. Grass Burns Fire burned about one-half acre of dry grass in a field owned by Leonard L. Fire In Outlet Firemen said that there was no damage yes terday from a fire in the outlet of a vent to an underground gasoline storage tank at the Roy V. Deutschman Texaco service station. 401 North Riverside ave. The fire about 4:30 p.m. apparently was caused by faulty wiring to an alarm bell, firemen stated. Accountants Accepted The Internal Revenue service is cur rently accepting applications for accountant positions in eight western states. The position pays a starting salary of $4,525 year ly and involves examination and audit of accounting books and records .of individuals, partner ships, corporations, and trusts to determine the correct federal income tax liability. Ma terie. 213 Girard dr., and their daughter Nancy. 7. are hospital ized in Woodland. Clinic, Wood land. Calif., following an auto mobile accident yesterday after noon, friends here have reported. The little girl suffered a broken leg and facial cuts and bruises; Mrs. Materie had' bruises on the face, and he suffered face and back injuries. Extent of his injuries was not immediately known. Accounts of the accident reaching he-e indicated that an other car came onto the high way, forcing Mrs. Materie, who was driving, to swerve. The cars locked bumpers, spun around and struck a tree, it was re ported, the accident was on Highway 99 north of Woodland The Materies were en route to Oakland, Calif., for a regional meeting of- Montgomery Ward company executives. Materies is manager of the Medford store Their son, Jimmie, 18, did not accompany them. Obituaries HERMAN SIMONSEN The body of Herman Fred erick Simonsen, 46, of Toketee Falls and Medford, who died yes terday, was forwarded last night by Conger-Morris funeral home, to his former home at Blair, Neb., for services and interment. Mr. Simonsen was born Jan. 21, 1910, in Verona, Neb. He was a veteran of World War II, serv ing from Jan. 16, 1943, until Dec. 2, 1945, and was a Staff Sergeant with the 185th General hospital. He served overseas for 20 months. Survivors include two sisters, Dr. Marie Simonsen, Lincoln, Neb., and Miss Elinor Simonsen, Nebraska. LARRY GOLDSMITH Larry Howard Goldsmith. 8- year-old son of Mr. and- Mrs. Herbert Goldsmith, died yester day at a hospital in California. Stock Market Rally Try Fails New York (U.R; Stocks tried valiently but unsuccessfully to rally in another dull session to day. They did manage to rise above their lows and a few managed to move up fractions to more than a point. But gains fell into the group which didn't affect the averages which showed small declines. Dow-Jones Averages DowJones final stock aver ages: 30 industrials 500.90, off 2.15; 20 railroads 160.01. up 0.23: 15 utilities 68.46. off 0.17, and 65 stocks 176.13, off 0.45. Sales today were about 1,530, 000 shares compared with 1,400, 000 shares Tuesday. Attempted Burglary Reported at Store Cyril Aurele Meunier, 1316 Winchester ave., owner of the Rose Grocery, 201 West Jack son st., has reported an attempt ed burglary there between 9 p.m. Monday and 7:40 a.m. Tues day, according to Medford po lice. Police reported that a portion of the glass of the rear door of the building was broken and the night lock released. Entrance was not made to the building, however, because a lock and hasp approximately three feet above the night lock could not be reached through the broken portion of the glass, police said. Hanson, executive of the Crater Lake Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, has been transferred to St. Paul, Minn., where he will be deputy regional Scout execu tive. The Hansons plan to leave for St. Paul on Sept. fl. Scouters and friends who de sire to attend the farewell din ner are asked to telephone Med ford 8-8963 or 2-5411 to make reservations.
