Ciub Holds Garden Party Members of Sojourners club held their meeting Thursday in the attractive garden of Mrs. O. A. Eden, 211 Genesee street. About 73 members and guests were present. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. Edwin Harper, chair man, Mrs. James Winslow, co chairman, assisted by Mrs. Don Carlon, Mrs. William Jensen and Mrs. A. B. Davis. Each table was centered with a small mixed bouquet. Mrs. Gene Chamber lain, in the absence of Mrs. Ger ald von Ting, acted as president pro tern. Out-of-town guests attending were Mrs. William K. Hart, Car- bondale, Colo., Mrs. J. W. Whita ker, Moberly, Mo. Prospective members were Mrs. Alma F. Hill and Mrs. Frank J. Iseli. New members welcomed into the club were Mrs. George Wilson, and . Mrs. Romeo Simonelli. Bridge prizes were won by Mrs. H. A. McCullough and Mrs. F. J. Cook. Pinochle prizes went to Mrs. Ernest Dittmer and Mrs. C. G. Whitney, Canasta awards to Mrs. A. L. McClure and Mrs. J. E. Westlund. A special award was given to Mrs J. H. Parker. The next meeting of the club will be August 23 at the Pythian Hall. All women who have lived in Medford or vicinity less than two years are invited to come and become members. Mrs. Gary Pree Honored at Party A shower party was given for Mrs. Gary Pree Friday evening. August 3, at the home of her mother, Mrs. Arthur R. Davis, 12 Kenwood avenue. A stork and baby decorated the mantle with pink and blue decorations for the gift and refreshment tables. Attending the shower were Mrs. Dora Mae Hilton. Mrs. Frank Craig, Mrs. Irma Porter, Mrs. John Howell, Ms. Bud Mc- Call, Mrs. Tom Merriman, Mrs. Jim Kelly, Mrs. Harry White, Mrs. Virgil Rose, Mrs. John Laird, Mrs. Gene Roethler, Mrs. Edmond Davis of Portland, and Mrs. Tony Neske, Pacoima, Calif. Mrs. Neske 'and her husband, aunt and uncle of the honored guest, have been house guests of the Davis' for the past week. Meeting Planned At Wilson Home Jacksonville Past Matrons' club of Adarel chapter. Order of Eastern Star, Jacksonville, will hold the August meeting at the home of Mrs. V. T. Wilson, Murphy,- Ore., Monday, August 13. Mrs. -Wilson will be assisted by Mrs.' Anna Cater and Mrs. Ernest Langley as co-hostesses. Luncheon at 12:30 o'clock will precede the meeting. Eugene, will play harp solos for the annual benefit tea which Women's association of First Presbyterian church will give Tuesday afternoon at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Edwin R. Durno, 222 Valley View drive. Miss Calkins will play from time to time during the afternoon in order that those calling any time between two and five o'clock may have an opportunity to hear her. Presbyterian Women Plan Annual Tea; Ha rpist to Play One of the large events of this week will be the annual silver tea of Women's association of First Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon. It will be held at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Edwin R. Durno, 222 Valley View drive, and will feature a program by a Eugene harpist and three local musicians. Hours of the tea are from 2 to 5 o'clock and all women of the church, their friends and guests are invited to attend: The tea is given each year to raise funds to buy expensive "miracle drugs" and supplies for mission hospital work in this country and abroad. Miss Sally Calkins is the harp ist who will play for -the tea. Miss Calkins is the daughter of Mrs. Windsor Calkins, instructor of harp at the University of Ore gon who has played in Medford years past. Miss Calkins studied this past year in Paris with Mile. Henriette Renie. Mile. Renie, who died Ust year, was considered the world's greatest harpist. Background music will be pro vided bv Miss Priscilla West, Mrs. Kenneth Brown and Miss I Lisbeth Shields. i General chairman is Mrs. Stan- lev Lacy, and assisting chairmen are Mrs. Otto Frohnmayer, who is in charge of the musical pro gram, Mrs. William McAllister and Mrs. ' William Farrell. Pouring during the afternoon will be Mrs. Hugh Collins, Mrs. Bert B. Lowry, Mrs. G T. Hau pert, Mrs. Glenn Taylor, Mrs. Bert R. Elliottt and Mrs. Lester Harris. Assisting as hostesses during the afternoon will be officers of the association and the chairmen of the various circles. These will include Mrs. Jack Edson, Mrs. Aubrey Norris, Mrs. Jack Sides, Mrs. M. H. Parsons, Mrs. Scott Davis, Mrs. Raymond Hall, Mrs. Robert Smith, Mrs. E. J. DeVoe, Mrs. George Osier, Mrs. Robert, Stokes. Mrs. James Rowan, Mrs. Kenneth Cook, Mrs. Walter Roe mer, Mrs. Ronald Cordon, Mrs. Charles W. Lemery and Mrs. Chandler Drew. Several young women of the church of college age will also assist in serving and Mrs. Hazel Baker will be in charge of the guest book. " 1 Myrtle Creek Reunion Planned The annual Myrtle Creek re union will be held Sunday, Au gust 19, at Benton Lane park at noon. A potluck meal will be served with coffee and ice cream furnished. The park is north of Eugene on the Corval lis highway. Each family is ask ed to bring its own dishes and silverware. Henry F. English of Portland is president, Dan Cardwell of Eugene, vice-president, and Mrs. Eddie Burr of Portland is secretary-treasurer for the reunion. Two Missionaries ' To Speak in City Mr. and Mrs. Al Kantor, mis sionaries to- the migrant work ers ' at Firebaugh, Calif., will speak and show pictures of their work at the August meeting of Women's Fellowship of the First Baptist church, Wednesday, August 15. The meeting will start with a 1 p.m. dessert lunch eon in the church annex. The social committee for the meeting will be Mrs. Leonard Stenerson, Mrs. M. Daily, Mrs. S. T. Braiinock, and Mrs. E. J. Bigalow, 104 King street, has been appointed vice-chairman of the American Legion auxiliary rehabilitation commission for the State of Ore gon. The appointment has been announced by Mrs. Clarence Grund, Dallas, president of the auxiliary for the Department of Oregon. As vice-chairman, Mrs. Biga low will be the director of vol unteer hospital workers for the three veterans' hospitals in the state. Serving with Mrs. Bigalow will be Mrs. Adolph Still,, Esta cada, chairman, and Mrs. 'Fran cis Ziegler, Corvallis. Mrs. Bigalow will attend the rehabilitation meeting during the national convention of the American Legion auxiliary in Los Angeles September 1 as a delegate. . Past Chiefs' Club Announces Meeting Past Chiefs' club of Pythian Sisters will meet Wednesday, August 15, at 1 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Delia Littlefield, Shady Cove, for a picnic dinner. Pythian club met last week at the home of Mrs. John Rus sell with Mrs. Delia Watkins assisting. After the business meeting refreshments were served by the hostesses. Cards were played with prizes being won by Mrs. Ida Ireland, Miss Florence Bain and Mrs. Don Ross. Seek Equipment . For Kindergarten Central Point Central' Point Lady Lions are collecting toys for the new kindergarten to be started in Central Point this fall. Items that are needed include two dolls and clothes, one doll bed or cradle, one play stove, play dishes, equipment for play housekeeping, small dolls either plastic or rubber, and doll house furniture for the girls. For the boys any trucks or cars, trains and play farm animals, games, Tinker Toys, interlocking plas tic blocks, 100 Golden books, two large soft rubber balls, chil drens records and a clock. The Lady Lions are donating chairs for the children. Anyone having any of the items in good usable condition to be donated to the kindergarten may leave them at the home of Mrs. Bill Saxbury, 263 South Second in Central Point. If the articles are to be picked up, arrangements may be made by telephoning Mrs. Bill Abbott at NO 4-1140 during the evening or Mrs. Dick Korner NO 4-2261. Picnic Meeting Held Elta Deuel Hubbs tent Daugh ters of Union Veterans, held a picnic at Hawthorne Park Wed nesday. Twenty-four members at tended. The next meeting will be Tuesday, August 28, at 8 p.m. in the auditorium of the court house. This meeting will be the first after summer vacation. Sunday. August 12, 1958 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE FIVE Traveler Returns From Long Trip; Attends Meeting Mrs. James . Wicker has re turned home after a 10,000 mile trip through the South and Mid west. Mrs. Wicker, a delegate to the national convention of t.he Navy mothers clubs of Ameri ca, left for New Orleans by the way of Los Angeles where she visited her brother, Arthur Kuhl. While in New Orleans she took a trip on the Mississippi river and into the Gulf of Mex ico and was later entertained by the Sarasota, Fla., Marine Band on board the USS Saipan which was anchored there. From New Orleans she visit ed spots in Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota and Canada. While in Wisconsin she visited two sisters, Mrs. Jack Rusch, Antigo, and Mrs. William Mc Rae, Wausau, and a brother, Chester Kuhl of Rhinelander. While in Milwaukee she at ended a doubleheader between the Milwaukee Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies. Mrs. Wicker returned to Med ford by the way of San Francisco. Club and Auxiliary Plan Picnic Wednesday Townsend club and auxiliary plan a picnic Wednesday, August 15 at 12 noon in Hawthorne park. A coyered dish luncheon will be served. Everyone is to bring their own table service. Hot coffee, cream and sugar will be furnished by the club. The public is welcome. At the last Townsend club meeting, A. W. Ellison was chairman for the business ses sion. Mrs. Lyda Spradley read the Washington, D.C. Flash. E. K. Hewitt served lemonade. A penny march was followed by readings at the close of the meeting. Next club meeting is schedul ed for August 22 at Carpenters' hall, 123'z West Main street. Adams, Evelyn apartments. To day the Brdshaws and the Adam's plan a trip to Crater lake, and tomorrow to Oregon Caves. Lodge Sponsors Waffle Breakfast; Members Report ' A waffle breakfast will be held by the Olive Rebekah lodge Aug. 16, Thursday, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with Mrs. Frank Chapman, 1041 West Eleventh street, serv ing. A charge will be made to raise money for the lodge. - The lodge met Monday eve ning at the Odd Fellows hall, with Mrs. J. D. Drummondj, noble grand presiding. District conven tion reports were given by Mrs. Chapman and a committee for Theta Rho girls was appointed. Committee members include Mrs. Fred Daugherty, Mrs. Homer Vinzant, and Mrs. Donald Ivie. Mrs. E. D. Cameron was appoint ed to be in charge of the Fra ternal Press magazine subscrip tions. The next meeting of the Olive Rebekah will be August 20.
