Olson, 515 King st., reported to Medford police yesterday the theft of his water sprinkler from his home. Pistol Taken Leo E. Orvis, route 1. box 108, Rogue River, reported to the Jackson county sheriff Thursday that a pistol has been taken from his resi dence. Chickens Stolen W. E. Rosen- baum, route 2, box 144, Table i Rock rd., recently reported to ! the sheriff that someone has been stealing chickens at his residence. Grass Fire City firemen said that a grass fire started from an unattended trash fire at Jasper st. and Melrose ave, near the high school shops yesterday about 3:40 p.m. About one-half of dry grass was burned off. Lake County Picnic The Lake county picnic will be held in Lithia park at noon Aug. 12 for all residents and former residents of Lake county. The committee will serve coffee and ice cream. . Theft Reported The Jack sonville Lumber company Tues day reported to the sheriff's of fice that a quarter-inch drill had been taken from the plant about a month ago. Officers are in vestigating the theft. Square Dance A dance will be held by the Happy Harvest er's Square Dance club at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, at the Central Point Legion hall. Paul Larsen and J- D. Lubbers will call. Re freshments will be potluck. Complaints City Fire Mar shall Truman Nelson investigat ed four complaints of hazardous conditions and inspected a pub lic garage and four business oc cupancies yesterday. He issued eight orders for correction of hazards. Stand By Firemen were called by state police to a log ging truck-automobile collision yesterday morning at the inter section of Highways 62 and 99. They flushed away spilled gaso line and stood by until wreckage was cleared. . Dance Slated The Swing N' Stars square dance club will hold a square dance Friday at the Jacksonville Community hall at 8 p.m. The dance will be open to the public and potluck refreshments will be served. Clyde Barlow and Bob Waller will call. Auditions The Junior Cham ber of Commerce will hold audi tions for their Aug. 17 talent show at the Footlighters' hall, old Fairgrounds at 8 p.m. Tues day, Aug. 7. Escapees Returned George James Cockran, 21, Bakersfield, Calif., and Richard James Pack ard, 25, Olympia, Wash., were returned to Bakersfield Thurs day by Kern county authorities. The two were arrested at Jack- ; sonville by state police on July ) 3 and hve been held here as escapees from the Kern county jail at Bakersfield. Auto Burglarised Charles Dahm, Third st., Jacksonville, has notified the sheriff that hub caps, rims, tools, a drive-in speaker and license plate were taken from his car parked at 1155 James rd., Medford, last Sunday. He also reported the windshield and one side win dow were broken. The tools were taken from the glove com partment. Sheriff's deputies are investigating the case. Runaway Held A 15-year-old Eugene girl was lodged in the Jackson county jail Tuesday as a runaway from her home, ac cording to the sheriff's office. In Jail Here Ted Jaspe'n Daily, 19, of 544 Effie st., Med ford, was lodged In the county jail Wednesday on a charge of being in possession of stolen property. To Portland Mrs. Ray C. Jones and her 9-year old son. Butch, of 428 North Holly, will leave Sunday for Portland where Butch will enter the Doernbech er Memorial hospital for medical treatment for a heart ailment. Returning Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mitchell and son, Jim, of Jacksonville, plan to return this week end from a two weeks' camping trip in the Butte Falls Prospect area. Surgery Patients Mrs. Clarence Nimmo, Jacksonville, is convalescing at Osteopathic hos pital after major surgery July 30. Mrs. Alvin Woyt, Rogue River, had minor surgery this morning. ! Unable to Attend Charles Porter, Eugene attorney and Democratic candidate for Con gressman from the fourth dis trict, notified friends in Jackson county today that he will be un able to attend the noon luncheon planned at the Medford hotel Saturday for Senator Wayne Morse. , Festival Plays Tonight: "Romeo and Juliet." McWhorter, of the experiment station in Corvallis, and Marvin Shearer, extension irrigation specialist, are visiting in Jackson county today, county extension agents reported. Dr. McWhorter is studying re lationship of alternate hosts of the same disease between flow ering plants and vegetables. Shearer is working with the county agents on improving soil moisture tests. Scheduled to visit Jackson county this week end is Dr. J. G. Stout, head of the teaching department in vegetable garden ing at theUniversity of Florida. With Dr. Stout will be his wife and son, John. The Ohio State Capitol in' Co lumbus took 22 years to build. A low-domed structure of Doric style, it stands in a 10-acre down town park. The blaze covered about Hi acres. Patrolmen assumed that the fire originated from an. at tempt to burn out a hornets' nest. Ward's Auto motive Reports said today three more auto divisions have closed down for model changeovers. The trade publication said the shutdowns caused car output to drop slightly to 110,168 units this week compared to 111,247 last week and 140,778 in the same week of 1955. Ward's said Lincoln and Mer cury divisions of Ford Tuesday closed down their Waune, Mich., assembly plant and Nash and Hudson production stopped to day at Kenosha, Wis., plants. Packard, previously ' closed down, will not resume until set tlement of Studebaker-Packard's merger and refinancing efforts. The publication reported Chrysler Corp. divisions will be gin closing down next week. It said Ford will also be closed down for new model building by the end of August.
