Grass Fire City firemen
said that a grass fire started

Theft Reported The Jack
sonville Lumber company Tues
day reported to the sheriff's of
fice that a quarter-inch drill had

Auto Burglarised Charles
Dahm, Third st., Jacksonville,
has notified the sheriff that hub
caps, rims, tools, a drive-in

Sunday. He also reported the
windshield and one side win
dow were broken. The tools
were taken from the glove com
partment. Sheriff's deputies are
investigating the case.

Officials Visit Here
Dr. F. P. McWhorter, of the
experiment station in Corvallis,
and Marvin Shearer, extension
irrigation specialist, are visiting
in Jackson county today, county
extension agents reported.
Dr. McWhorter is studying re
lationship of alternate hosts of
the same disease between flow
ering plants and vegetables.
Shearer is working with the
county agents on improving soil
moisture tests.
Scheduled to visit Jackson
county this week end is Dr. J.
G. Stout, head of the teaching
department in vegetable garden
ing at theUniversity of Florida.
With Dr. Stout will be his wife
and son, John.

Puts Out Brush Fire
A fire in brush land about
2i miles southwest of Jackson
ville was put out by state for
estry department patrolmen yes
terday. The blaze covered about Hi
acres. Patrolmen assumed that
the fire originated from an. at
tempt to burn out a hornets'
nest. They were dispatched to
the fire about 4 p.m.

Auto Industry Making
Changeover in Models
Detroit QJ.P.) Ward's Auto
motive Reports said today three
more auto divisions have closed
down for model changeovers.
The trade publication said the
shutdowns caused car output to
drop slightly to 110,168 units
this week compared to 111,247
last week and 140,778 in the
same week of 1955.
Ward's said Lincoln and Mer
cury divisions of Ford Tuesday
closed down their Waune, Mich.,
assembly plant and Nash and
Hudson production stopped to
day at Kenosha, Wis., plants.
Packard, previously ' closed
down, will not resume until set
tlement of Studebaker-Packard's
merger and refinancing efforts.
The publication reported
Chrysler Corp. divisions will be
gin closing down next week. It
said Ford will also be closed
down for new model building
by the end of August.
Ward's said the industry
model switch finds car produc
tion for 1956 lagging the 1955
pace by 27 per cent, and truck
production down 10 per cent.
