Hudson of Crescent City. The wedding was perform ed at 1 p.m. July 18, by the Rev. G A. Trobough at the Refen bark home, 1131 Pinecroft ave., Medford. Present for the ceremony were immediate families of the couple. Mrs. Al Muse, Trail, was ma tron of honor, while the brother of the bridegroom, Kenneth, served as best man. Following the ceremony the couple left on a trip to the Ore gon coast. Naval Officer Visits Here Commander J. D. P. Hodapp Jr.. officer-in-charge of Indian island annex naval ammunition depot. Bangor. Wash., for the past three years, was an over night guest with Mrs. Hodapp, at the home of his cousins. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Swan of Eagle Point, July 13. Commander Hodapp. who has been assigned as naval advisor to Chinese National Defense col lege at Taipei. Taiwan (Formosa) leaves here for Washington. D.C. where he will receive two weeks temporary duty under the Chief of Naval Operations. July 24 through 28, will be the display of contemporary paintings in the theater lobby by local artists of the Academy of Creative Arts. Mrs. Max Wimmer. presi dent of the theater group, and Bill McCorkle. secretary of the academy, announced recently that woks by seven local paint ers will be included in the exhibit. Staple, former Medford residents, re turned Monday evening for a visit with their many friends in the area. While here they were entertained by the Warren Ol sons on Euclid avenue for din ner, Tuesday a luncheon at Mrs. Frank Perl's, 136 North Oakdale avenue, and that evening a din ner by the William Findleys of Old Stage road and the William M. McAllisters of Hillcrest road. A luncheon by the Fred J. Carrs on Florence avenue, and a dinner party by Jerry P. Tob ins, 1435 Euclid avenue, were given in honor of the guests on Wednesday. Thursday the couple were entertained at cocktails at the Hugh Colemans, 1806 East Main street with co-hosts the R. A. Miksches. Mrs. E. A. Littrell gave a tea Friday for the visitors during the afternoon with a dinner scheduled that evening at the Jack Crawford home on Main street. The Staples, who were assoc iated with the Hamlin Motor ; company in Medford, has previ ously planned to remain for a few more days. They were un expectedly called to their home in Upton, Calif., for business rea sons. Holds Card Party The Getogether Club w ill hold a card party at 1 p.m. Wednes day at the Moose Hall. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vogler of Los Altos. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur D. Hess, Medford. The Rev. Charles Cox of ficiated at the 3 p.m. service that was held in the church decorated with baskets of white ! gladiolus, green fern, and white tapers in candelabra. , The bride, given in marriage j by her father, wore a ballerina length gown of white imported Swiss eyelet organdy. Her shoul der length veil fell from a crown of satin and pearls. She carried a cascade bouquet of liles of the valley, variegated I ivy and stephanotis. For something borrowed, the bride carried a lace and linen ' handkerchief which had been i carried by the bridegroom's j mother at her wedding. The handkerchief had been a gift from a friend who had original ly brought it from France, i Miss Charleen Vogler of La- crosse. Wash., cousin of the 1 bride, was maid of honor. Her dress was of white flocked nylon over powder blue taffeta, salm binding accented the bod ice. She carried white carnations and blue delphiniums. Dave Relling. classmate of the bridegroom from Lodi, Calif., was best man. Ushering were C. C. Leonard of Medford, and James Coop of Oakland. Mrs. Jack Coffeen, 108 Stew art avenue, and her mother, Mrs. Leona Helgesnn of South Grape, left for New York Monday even ing where they caught their ship to Germany Friday. 7"he mother and daughter, who will be gone approximately one year, will Out of town guests included Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Leonard, and Mrs. Virginia Wait, all of Med ford; Mrs. K. Vogler, grand mother of the bride, and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Vogler and family, all of Lacrosse, Wash., Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Cooper and daughter, Dale, and Mrs. Bea Whitehead, of Oakland. Calif.: and Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Seegmiller, grand parents of the bridegroom. The bride chose for her travel ing attire a silk suit of blue with white and navy accessories. After a trip to Santa Barbara. Calif., the couple are at home at 3053 Emerson, Palo Alto. Miss Vogler attended San Jose State college, and is a grad uate of Washington State col lege. She is employed as a department sales manager for Emporium in Stanford. Mr. Hess attended Williamette University and is a graduate of Washington State College school of vet erinary medicine. He is employ ed by the Dr. Devine AnimaJ Clinic in San Jose. Vanderlinden and children, Mark, Rebecca, Lane and Trudy Kay. , The Vanderlindens are mov ing soon to Camp Pendleton, j gon this fall Calif., where Mr. Vanderlinden will be stationed with the First Marine division. In Sermon Contest For the second consecutive year D. Raymond E. Baicomb of the First Methodist Church. Medford. has been a winner in Methodist Bishop Grant's ser mon contest for the Northwest. Dr. Balcomb's sermon. "When There Was No King," originally preached in Medford last Jan uary, was second among three chosen to be preached at the an nual pastor's school to be held at the College of Puget Sound during the week of July 23. Dr. Baicomb will preach on the evening of Wednesday, July 25. Returns Home From Convention Miss Celia Clogston. daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Clog ston, 1840 Stage road, returned July 14 from the east after at tending the Zeta Tau Alpha international convention in Springlake, N.J. June 18-24. Miss Clogston, a delegate to the convention from the Univer sity of Oregon, visited with Miss Priscilla Zeif, formerly of Med ford, who is president of the University of Colorado Zeta chapter, while there. After spending some time in New Y'ork following the conven tion Miss Clogston, and a friend. Miss Pat Ardinger of Springfield, Ore., visited in Washington, D.C, New Orleans, Long Beach, and San Francisco, before returning home. Miss Clogston will be a senior at the University of Ore- Returns From Mexico Visit and Wedding Miss Mildred Gail, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman C. Gail of Gold Hill, has returned home after a visit with friends in Mexico. Miss Gail left Gold Hill in early June to be maid of honor at the wedding of her friend. Miss Catherine Hartneus, in San Francisco. Following the cere mony she drove with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Hartneus, and their son, Teter. to Ajijic, Mex ico, approximately 36 miles from Guadalajara. A sophmore in college, Miss Gail will return to the Univer sity of Washington this fall. MEETING PLANNED The Pythian Club will meet Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Joe Cook, 124 King street with Mrs. Ida Ireland assisting. Miss Shirley Eileen Schmelzer and John Robert Garner ex changed vows at the First Pres byterian church July 12 at 6 p.m. Dr. D. Kirkland West of ficiated at the single ring cere mony witnessed by immediate families of the couple. Miss Schmelzer is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Schmelzer, Route 1, Box 443-E, Medford. Mr. Garner is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Garner, 226 Welch street. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white lace street length dress and a small hat of white violets. Her corsage was of pink roses. She also wore a pearl necklace, a gift from her brother. Matron of honor was Mrs. Har old Schmelzer, sister-in-law of the bride. Charles Garner, bro ther of the bridegroom served as best man. A reception was given by the parents of the bride at their home following the ceremony. Pink and white gladiolus and white daisies decorated the room where 55 guests congratulated the couple. After a wedding trip through California and Nevada, the couple are at home at 219 Mistle toe street. Mrs. Pysher Here To Complete Plans For Convention Mrs. Oma Pysher, Portland, state president of the Oregon Licensed Practical Nurses asso ciation, will arrive in Medford July 24 to assist in completing plans for the OLPNA convention that is to be held in the Jack son hotel October 3 and 4. Mrs. Pysher will remain here for a few days to visit places around the valley. The associa tion is expecting 200 to 300 per sons here for the convention.
