r ' ' ''57 - ?. .;l r i :.fc& 1 ' - Mr. and Mrs. Roy Branum Barnes -Branum Ceremony Held at Methodist Church Miss Reola Colleen Barnes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Barnes, Talent, became the bride of Roy Branum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rome Branum, Fresno, Calif., in a double ring cere mony, Saturday, June 30, in the First Methodist Church, Med ford. The church was decorated with gladiolus for the 8 p.m. wedding that was attended by nearly 70 guests. The bride wore a ballerina length gown of white lace over net and satin and carried a white orchid on a white Bible. Mrs. Nancy Gidney of Cen tral Point, sister of the bride groom, was matron of honor. She wore a pink ballerina length gown and carried a nosegay of white carnations with pink rose buds. Best man was Frank Gidney. Ushers were Earl Barnes, Med ford, and Jerry Barnes, San Di ego, brothers of the bride. Following the ceremony a re ception was held. Miss Maxine Crew, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Delora Barnes, sister-in-law of the bride, served the Summer in Hawaii At University For Miss Newland Among 3,700 students en rolled at the University of Ha waii summer session this year is Miss Patricia Newland, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. New land of 1134 Morrow road. The University of Hawaii lies in beautiful Moana Valley, some two miles from Waikiki Beach. By virtue of its location, the University of Hawaii summer session combines a program of study, travel and recreation. Eminent visiting professors are invited each year to augment the resident faculty and students are offered a wide range of subjects from which to select their courses. Summer fun activities pro vided by the university include tours to temples, museums, a sugar mill. Pearl Harbor, a lec ture series presented by top level instructors, intercultural programs and an introduction to the Hawaiian sport of ti leaf sliding. Returns from Europe Miss Sonia Schneider, daugh ter of Mrs. Walter Brittan, Table Rock Estates, sailed for Europe April 5 from New York on board the Libertee with two of her Mills College companions. While in Europe Miss Schneider visit ed France, Italy, Spain, Switzer land, Germany, and England. Having returned to the United States on board the He de France, she plans to visit re latives in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, for two weeks and spend several days in Victoria, B.C. be fore returning to Medford July 17. cake. Mrs. George Distell presid ed at the punch bowl, and Mrs. Jerry Barnes was in charge of the guest book. After a ten day trip to Fresno, Calif., the couple is at home at 127V2 Almond street, Medford. The bride, a graduate of Med ford Senior High school, is em ployed at Sacred Heart hospital. The bridegroom is employed in Hilt, Calif. Summer School For Miss Sandra Miss Sandra Hubbard, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester A. Hubbard of 2451 Lyman avenue, is one of 23 Stephens college students and graduates of this year who will begin summer school at the Instituto Tecnol ogico de Monterrey in Monter rey,, Mexico, on July 16. This is the eighth consecutive sum mer that Stephens students have studied at Tecnologico de Mon terrey. The group will be under the supervision of two members of the Stephens language faculty who will be teaching at Tec nologico for the summer session. School will continue through August 25 and students may take courses in beginning, intermedi ate and advanced Spanish, his t o r y, sociology, government, philosophy, art, sculpture, archi tecture, geography, Mexican folklore, songs and dances. Field trips will be made to sites of interest near Monterrey. Miss Hubbard, who is major ing in languages, graduated from Stephens with an associate in arts degree this June. She is presently on a ten day tour of Mexico, which began July 4 in Mexico City, with five other Stephens students under the supervision of a member of the language faculty. The tour included sites of interest in and around Mexico City, such as the pyramids, the Palace of Fine Arts, Chapultepec and Xochi milco, and a trip down to Aca pulco with stops in various places such as Cuernavaca and Taxco. While in Mexico City the group was entertained at fiestas at the homes of two Stephens students. The group will leave today for Monterrey. Miss Hubbard will return to Medford around September 1 af ter a visit in Texas. She plans to enter the University of Ore gon this fall. SNACK BOOTH SPONSORED The City Council of Beta Sig ma Phi will sponsor the snack booth at the Ladies Mounted Posse Horse Show this afternoon. in Mexico Hubbard 4 ''v7 Miss Sandra Hubbard Trost Engagement Announced Here Mr. and Mrs. Helmut Trost, 2922 South Pacific highway, an nounce the engagement and ap proaching marriage of their daughter. Miss Eleanor Ruth Trost, to Richard C. McDonald, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Mc Donald of Pueblo, Colo. . Miss Trost, a graduate of Phoenix High school, attended San Mateo College in California. She is presently employed in Menlo Park. Mr. McDonald is serving with the U.S. Marine Corps at Trea sure Island, San Francisco. The wedding, will be held August 4 at the First Presby terian church in Medford. The engagement was announced Sun day, July 8 in Menlo Park at a garden party given by Mr. and Mrs. Otto Meerly of that city. Oak Grove Club Meets The Oak Grove Neighborhood Club will meet Tuesday at the river home of Mrs. Kate Trow bridge for a picnic. Members wishing transportation will meet at 3237 Jacksonville highway at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 15. 1958 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE THREE Keenes Honored By Party Mr. and Mrs. Chester Keene Sr. of 142 Glen wood road,- were honored at a surprise party on their thirtieth wedding anniver sary, July 1. The event took place at the home of Mr. Keene's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Franklin, Bell flower, Calif. Attending the party were Mr. Keene's mother, Mrs. Lena Keene; Joe and Claude Keene of Lakewood; Mrs. Bar bara Calhoun of Los Angeles; the couples three daughters and two grandsons, the host and hostess, and their two daughters.' Mr. and Mrs. Keene . were married in Yreka, Calif, in 1926 and have lived in the Medford area since 1929. The couple have three sons and three daughters. Their youngest son, Leonard, is with the 11th Airborne in Munich, Germany. The rest of the children live in the Medford area. Mr. and Mrs. Keene, Mrs. Dorothy Claflin . and her two children, and Beverly and Char lotte Keene spent a week vaca tion in southern California. While there, they visited Disney land, San Diego, and Tijuana, Mexico. They returned home last week-end. Tent Meets The Elta Deuel Hubbs Tent held a regular meeting July 10, with Dorothea Hershiser Sr., vice president, presiding. Plans were made for summer vacation and a picnic to be held August 7 in Hawthorne Park. The next meeting will be August 14. Arkansas Family Visits Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Morris and son, Bob'bie, of Mountain Home, Ark., are visiting Mr. Morris' aunt, Mrs. Rosa Davis of Evelyn apartments.
