The meeting, scheduled to open at 9:30 a.m. at the Multno mah hotel, will be the last to be held this summer. Brig. Gen. L. H. Foote, North Pacific Division Engineer of the Corps of Engineers, new chair man of the Inter-Agency com mittee, said the meeting would be a departure from some of the more routine committee senf ions. Me noted that the Oregon Water Resources Board, established about a year a?o, is a new ad ministrative instrument destined to play an important part in the program for comprehensive de velopment of the Pacific North west. Gov. Elmo Smith of Oregon will take an active part in the discussions. Govs. Arthur B. Langlie of Washington, Robert E. Smylie of Idaho, and J. Hugo Aronson of Montana have indi cated they will attend or have official representatives. BAD TIMING Kitchener, Ont. (U.R) Of ficials of the Ontario Hydro Electric Power Commission from all sections of Canada were gathered here in celebra tion of the commission's 50th anniversary when suddenly the lights went out. The Dower failure was caused by lightning during a storm. GOP Urging Party Leaders To Recruit Rank-and-File Labor Washington (U.R) George I. Bloom, new Pennsylvania Re publican chairman, is urging party county leaders in his state to recruit rank-and-file labor union members into the party organization. His action is one example of Board Denies Request For Transfer of Land A request for transfer of a sec tion of land to a different county school district was withdrawn during a hearing by the county boundary board Friday. The petition for transfer was submitted by B. M. Hoover. He asked the board to transfer some land south of Camp White on the southeast edge of Eagle Point District 9 to what is now District 549-C. Hoover withdrew his petition when the board explained its policy of changing school bound aries only when there are chil dren in the areas affected. Disaster Car Group To Meet This Evening Regular monthly meeting of the Jackson County Disaster Car organization has been called for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday by Vern Wat rud, president. Chandler said Sunday he believes Adlai Stevenson is "a bit weaker" as a vote-getter than he was four years ago while President Eisen hower is "just as strong." New York Mayor Robert Wag ner told a news conference Sun day at Asheville, N. C., that he is not actively seeking the Demo cratic vice presidential nomina tion but is available for it if of fered. A United Press survey showed today that Stevenson still is ahead of other Democratic con tenders with 368Vi indicated first-ballot convention votes. Sen. Estes Kefauver has 163 and Harriman 137. The number necessary for nomination is 686 V2. He suggested that these names could provide the nucleus for rank-and-file labor committees in the counties. Most of labor's organized po litical activity has been thrown behind Democratic candidates. But Republicans have questioned whether union leaders could "de liver" a labor vote and have claimed evidence of a pickup in labor support for GOP candi dates. Since many -of the ranking union leaders have been political ly active for the Democrats, the GOP has looked toward the rank-and-file. Army Woman Slafes Visif Here Thursday Capt. Margaret E. Radke. rep resentative of the Army medical specialist corps. Headquarters Sixth Army, Presidio of San Francisco, Calif., will visit Med ford Thursday to interview stu dents and describe opportunities for professional training in die tetics, physical therapy and oc cupational therapy offered by the Army medical service. A 12-month dietetic intern ship is available to prospective college graduates who have a major in foods and nutrition or institution management. A bac calaureate degree with courses in the biological and physical sciences and psychology is the prerequisite for the 12-month physical therapy course. For college studends who will com plete, their academic require ments in an approved occupa tional therapy school, the Army provides a 9-month clinical prac tice program. Students selected for this pro fessional training are commis sioned as second lieutenants in the Army medical specialist corps after graduation from col lege and before they begin their course. They receive pay and al lowances of an officer of this grade during their training period.
