TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Many Parties'for The summer months always bring many parties for visitors. Tonight Mr. and Mrs. Earl Tumy will e hosts for a large cocktail and supper party to honor their daughter, Mrs. Rich ard C. Ashcom, who is here for several weeks. The event will be at the Colony club. Mrs. Ashcom, who makes her home in Detroit, was accom panied by her three children, Julie, Kathy and Jeffrey. They will be joined in August by Dr. Ashcom and the family plans to return to Detroit about Septem ber 1. A number of recent parties were given for the pleasure of three couples who came to Med- Betrothal News Of Interest Here Of interest here is news of the engagement of Miss Molly Lou McCoy, Vancouver, Wash., and Douglas Philips, eldest son of Dr. and Mrs. Stanley E. Philips, Big Boulder orchard, Medford. Miss McCoy's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allan McCoy of Vancouver, recently announced the betrothal in that city. No date has been set for the wedding. Miss McCoy was graduated from Washington State college this spring and has accepted a position as home economics in structor in the high school at Colfax, Wash. She is a member of Chi Omega 3orority. Mr. PhiliDs is a iunior in the school of veterinary medicine at Washington State college. He js a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Student Returns From Scotland Miss Ellen West, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. D. K. West, returned home Tuesday from Scotland after studying for a year at the St. Andrew's Uni versity, St. Andrew Fife, about 40 miles north of Edinburgh. Miss West, a political science major, will return to Stanford university this fall for her senior year. Prior to returning home, she travelled through the Scottish Highlands, Ireland, and parts of Europe. She will be at her parent's home, 52 Ross court, during the remainder of the summer. Mark ham, Chicago, her two brothers, John J. Markham of Chicago and James M. Markham of Milwau kee, Wise, and their wives. Last Sunday the Clarks were hosts for a cocktail party in honor of the visitors. Others who entertained for the three couples were Dr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Emmens,- 6 North Modoc avenue, Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Hibbs, 190 White Oak drive and Dr. and Mrs. Dwight Findley, Old Stage road. Mrs. Gain Robinson and Mrs. J. J. Emmens were hostesses Monday for a luncheon and bridge party which honored the three women, and Mrs. Martin Luther and Mrs. George Roberts entertained Thursday at a luncheon-bridge party for Mrs. Herbert Hark ham. Both parties were at the Colony club. Mrs. Roberts invited James Markham III and his sister, Holly, who accompanied their parents here, and Mrs. Clark's son and daughter, Susie and Walter (Butch) Graff, to her home Tuesday, for luncheon and swimming. The younger Markhams left early in the week for Seattle, and the elder couple departed Friday to join them in Spokane from where the family planned to leave for home. Golfers Discuss Coming Tourney Lady golfers of Rogue Valley Country club held their monthly luncheon Thursday. During tne business meeting which fol lowed, the women's club cham pionship tournament was dis cussed. The qualifying matches for this tournament will be held some time between July 5 and 19. Other events scheduled dur ing th emonth of July include the third W.V.S.O. tournament to be held at the Eugene Coun try club July 11. Al Williams, club profession al, explained thenew rules that hsv been adoDted this year. and talked on other rules and golf etiquette. Dinner Party Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Cummins and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn L. Jack son were hosts for a dinner last evening. Guests were invited to the Cummins' home on Hillcrest road. Mrs. Wright entertained at her home, 1200 Stewart avenue. Cards followed dessert, and Miss Huson was presented gifts for her new home. Guests were Miss Huson and her mother, Mrs. Darell F. She carried a bouquet of white lilies with white satin ribbon. Mrs. Wayne Hunter, was ma tron of honor. She wore blue and carried a bouquet of pink rosebuds. Her headpiece was of matching pink roses. Jack W. Vance was best man, while Wayne Hunter and Fritz Ruch ushered. Mrs. Gregory MacDougall was soloist for the ceremony, and Mrs. Richard Schuchard was at the organ. Following the ceremony more than .75 friends and relatives attended the reception given by the bridegroom's parents at their home. Mrs. Fred Canterbury, Rogue River, served the cake, while Mrs. D. R. Hendnckson presided at the punch bowl and Mrs. Lee Humphrey poured the coffee. For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Talbott wore a suit of turquoise with white accessories. Mrs. Aldredge chose a navy blue dress with pink and navy ac cessories. Their corsages were of pink rosebuds. Mrs. N. L. Chapman, grand mother of the bride from Cali fornia, wore a charcoal grey suit with black accessories and accented with a white rosebud corsage. ' Out of town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Mark Ferns, La pine, aunt and uncle of the bridegroom; Mrs. M. M. Cole, grandmother of the bridegroom; Mrs. Lee Humphrey, " aunt of the bridegroom, and Miss Nancy Humphrey, niece of the bride groom, all from Ukiah, Calif. The bride was graduated from Crater High school in June. The bridegroom is a graduate of Medford High school and attend ed Southern Oregon College. Stewart at a ceremony held July 4 at 8 p.m. in the Community Church, Eagle Point. The Rev. Joe Mun- shaw officiated. Miss Greenwood is 'the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Green wood, Eagle Point. The bride groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Stewart, White City. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white bal lerina length dress of net over satin with a lace bodice. Her bouquet was of pink rosebuds. The maid of honor, Miss Hallie Gray, Eagle Point, wore a bal lerina length dress in yellow and carried a nosegay of matching rosebuds. . The two flower girls, Midgie and Karen Greenwood, nieces of the bride, wore aquamarine frocks. Ushering were Lyle and Laren Greenwood, brothers of the bride. Pink roses, Ester Reed daisies, and fern decorated the church. Mrs. Shearin was organist. Following the ceremony a re ception was held for the 75 relatives and guests. The newlyweds are both grad uates of Eagle Point High school. The bridegroom is serving with the U. S. Army. 1 Traveler To Sail For Europe Soon F. E. Sampson, Jackson hotel, will sail for Europe July 12 aboard the Queen Mary. He leaves today for San Francisco where he will enplane for New York. During the two months he will be in Europe Mr. Sampson plans to visit France. Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Holland and England. Upon returning to. the United States he will visit friends in Minnesota before arriving back in Medford. To Arrive Mrs. Winifred Goodwin with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas, will arrive today from Vancouver, B.C., to visit Mrs. Goodwin's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Wyatt, 235 North Ivy street. The visitors will remain about 10 days and will leave here for Calgary, Canada, for a stay be fore returning to Vancouver. H Starts Tomorrow At . . . Mrs. Jerald Wynn Miss Florey Wed To Jerald Wynn Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Florey, Old Stage road, announce the mar riage of their daughter, Judy, to Jerald D. Wynn of Los Angeles. The ceremony was performed in that city July 3. The bride attended Medford schools, graduated from Med ford High school in 1954 and at tended Southern Oregon college. At present she is taking x-ray technician training at California Lutheran hospital in Los An geles. Mr. Wynn attended schools in Los Angeles, and is on the engi neering staff of California Lu theran hospital. Mrs. Wynn will continue her studies in x-ray work, they will will make their home in Los Angeles. Post Office Clerks Attend Convention Mr. and Mrs. William Rose, 158 Janney lane, and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Allen, 1605 Biddle road, motored to- Gearhart for the - convention of the Oregon State Federation of Post Office clerks held last week end. The convention opened Friday morn ing and ended Sunday. Budd Gail, retiring state presi dent of the federation, accom panied the foursome home. Mrs. Rose and Mrs. Allen re ported on convention activities at a special meeting of the Med ford auxiliary held at the home of Mrs. Lee Hubler. Mrs. Nor man Rue, Salem, is the new head of the state auxiliary and will be a delegate to the national con- I vention.
