She's en route to Long Beach for the Miss Uni verse contest. Nixon Pays Homage To Soldier Heroes Of Corregidor War Manila (U.R) Vice Presi dent Richard M. Nixon visited battlescarred Corregidor Island today to pay homage to the thou sands of U. S. and Philippine servicemen who died there dur ing World War II. The Vice President and his wife, making a whirlwind visit to democratic nations in the Far East, were accompanied to Cor regidor at the entrance of Man ila Bay by Philippines President nd Mrs. Ramon Magsaysay. They visited Malinta tunnel,' which served as headquarters of Gen. Douglas MacArthur and his successor, the late Gen. Jonathan Wainwrlght, along with the late Philippines President Manuel L. Quezon, before Corregidor was captured by the Japanese. Nixon represented President Eisenhower at . Wednesdays' col orful, celebration of the 10th an niversary of, Philippine inde pendence, and was scheduled to leave with Mrs. Nixon for South Viet Nam Friday. To Visit Formosa Nixon also will visit Formosa where he will confer with Gen eralissimo Chiang Kai-shek. Nixon and Magsaysay ex changed vows of Philippine-American partnership in Fourth of July grandstand speeches at the historic Lumeta, where nearly 1,000,000 persons gathered for one of the Philippines' biggest celebrations. But rain sent the crowd scurry ing for cover while Nixon was speaking, and he cut his talk short with an expression of thanks for the hospitality of the Philippine people. Suit Filed Against Logging Firm Here Otis H. Hill and Roberta M. Hill have filed a complaint in circuit court against O. K. Puck ett and Earl J. Sherer, copart ners In Puckett and Sherer log ging firm, and are seeking a total of $5,600 damages. The complaint states that Puckett and Sherer hold logging rights anytime prior to Feb. 7, 1961, on 40 acres of the Hills' property northeast of Phoenix. The Hills charge that while logging there, Puckett and Sherer damaged an irrigation ditch on the property in' the amount of $4,000 by changing its grade, tearing up the lining and reducing the water supply by one-half. R) The Soviet government and Communist par-, ty today accused Secretary of State John Foster Dulles of re sponsibility for the "bloody" Poznan riots in Poland The government organ Izves tia said the Poznan uprising fol lowed "inflammatory" speeches by Dulles and the appropriation of $125,000,000 by Congress for "subversion" of the Iron Curtain countries. Pravda, organ of the Com munist party, lashed out at the bloody provocations made by American agents." It accused Dulles of "gross fal sifications" in alleging that the denunciation of the cult of Stal inism in the Soviet Union had left Communist parties "in a state of utter confusion." Observers noted the markedly strong tone of the two articles. They said it now remains to b.e seen whether the Russians, who have been giving tourist visas virtually for the asking, will now close the gates to the un precedented stream of Western tourists and newsmen.
