Mrs. Edith Baker conducted the ceremony. During July and August the club will hold picnic meetings, and the first is set for Jul 12 at the home of Mrs. Bereth Hopkins. Students Attend Island University Two Medford students, Miss Sara Hart and Miss Patricia Newland, are enrolled at the University of Hawaii for the special summer session conduct ed for students from the states. Miss Newland is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Newland, Morrow road, and Miss Hart is a daughter of Mrs. Robert Hart, Grant road. Both young women are stu dents at Oregon State college during the regular college year. During their stay in Hawaii they will take tours of Oahu and other islands of the groups ar ranged for the students, and will return to Medford in mid-August. The two are living on Wai kiki beach. Also attending summer session at the University of Hawaii is Miss Carole Pringle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Pringle, formerly of Medford and now of southern California. Miss Pringle was graduated from Medford High school in 1954 and is'also a student at OSC. In addition to her work at Carnegie Tech, Miss Newport has played many leading roles at the University of Wichita, in cluding Desdemona in scenes from "Othello." She has also done considerable work in radio in Wichita. This summer Miss Newpont will play the role of Maria in "Love's Labour's Lost," in addi tion to the role of Juliet. Ted van Griethuysen's home' is Houston, Texas, and he is at present working toward a bache lor of fine arts degree in costume at the University of Texas. This summer he has made his own Romeo costume, and has helped the costume department on seV' eral other costumes. At the University of Texas, van Griethuysen played the title role in "Hamlet," directed by B. Iden Payne, who is cur-i rently directing this season's festival production of "Cymbe- line." This past year, he danced the title role in a five act dance drama, "Doktor Faust." Flemings Return From Trip South Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Fleming and son Gordon returned Mon day from Keesler Air Force base at Biloxi, Miss. While there they visited their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Flem ing, Mr. Fleming being an air man second class in the USAF. Mrs. Fleming is the former Charolette Curtis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Curtis of Med ford. While on their vacation the Flemings visited Carlsbad Cav erns, New Mexico, the Grand Canyon and Zion National parks. Nebraskans Leave After Visit Here Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Svoboda Verdgre, Neb., left Medford Mon day after a week's visit with Mrs. Julia Vakoc, 519 South River side ave. , . The Svobodas are on a train tour of the Pacific coast. They were given the round trip tour as a gift from their children after celebrating their golden wedding anniversary in May. While in the Rogue valley they and Mrs. Vakoc went sight seeing in Ashland park, Crater Lake national park, and other spots. The two families were neighbors some years ago in Verdigre. . Captain and Wife' Visit Parents Here Captain James K. Hoey Jr., arrived in Medford Monday to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James K. Hoey, 48 Quince street. The captain is assigned to Army duty at the White Sands Proving ground in New Mexico. Mrs. Hdey and the couple's daughter, Barbara, came to Med ford about two weeks ago and have been guests of the senior Hoeys. The family will leave July 12 to return to New Mexico. Family Visits At Ware Home Mr. and Mrs. George R. Ware, Winema Way, had as recent guests their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William A. Eaton, Portland. The Eatons are the parents of two children, a son Billy and a daughter Linda Lee. Mrs. Eaton is the former Miss Darlene Ware, Mr. Eaton is employed at the Swan Island airport. ' Mrs. Ware and son Richard returned recently from a visit with another daughter, Mrs. Frank A. Kimball and family who reside at Springfield, Ore. Camp Departure, Plans Announced By Scout Office . - Campers who are going tol Camp Low Echo, Girl Scount camp at Lake of the Woods, Sun- i day July 8, are asked to be at the Greyhound Bus depot, 212 North Bartlett street, Medford, ! by 11:30 a.m., one-half hour be fore the scheduled departure at 12 noon, in order to check in j their baggage. It is extremely important for those coming from outside Medford to be sure of their connections to allow for reaching the depot in time, it is announced from headquarters. Each camper is reminded that she must get her health exami nation form and the balance of her fee into the Girl Scout office in Medford, before Sunday; otherwise she cannot board the bus. . "' Medford Teacher Leads Discu,ssion At NEA Session Mrs. Maxine Smith, Medford teacher, was leader for one -of. the discussion sessions held yes terday in Portland as part of the annual convention of National Education association. The con vention closes Friday. Mrs. Smith led discussion on the proposed NEA program to increase services aai leadership for teachers. The group met on the mezzanine of the Benson ho tel. Mrs. Smith, who teaches foreign languages in Medford High school and McLoughllnj Junior High school, is president of the Department of Classroom Teachers, Oregon Education as sociation. . School Announces Term Honor Roll Eugene A total of 309 stu dents in the University of Ore gon were named to the spring term honor roll. Honor roll membership is lim ited to those students carrying at least 12 term hours and earning a 3.50 or higher grade point average. ' Perfect 4.00 grade point aver ages, all "A"s, were registered by 45 students. On the honor roll from Med ford were R. Craig Philips, son of Dr. and Mrs. S. E. Philips of Big Boulder Orchard and Fred C. Stammen of 209 South Orange st., Medford. Family Arrives For Visit Here Talent Gerald Barnes, pet ty officer first class in the Unit ed States Navy, and his family are visiting with his parents, Mr. arid Mrs. J. F. Barnes, Route 1, Box 180, Talent, and other rela lives and friends. Mr. Barnes has been process ing recruits for the last three years at the United States Naval Training center, Great Lakes, III., and has been ordered to ie port for duty on the Attack Transport USS Noble, San Diego, Calif. Mrs. Barnes is the former Ar dis Kezer of Rice Lake, Wise. - Sunshine Girls Hoc -Picnic in Ashland Pythian Sunshine Girls held a swim party and picnic in Ash land Tuesday. The event was planned by "little sisters" of the order for their "big sisters." Plans for the party were made at the last session, conducted by Miss Rosemary Tokar, royal princess. Refreshments were served by Miss Tokar and Miss Layle Bostwick. New Hours for Talent Library Announced Talent Mrs. Alta Estes, libra rian of the Talent branch of the Jackson county library system, has announced new opening hours for the agency. The libra ry will be open from 7 to 9 p.m. every Monday, instead of on Tuesday afternoons. Library service will be available on Fri day afternoons from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. as in the past. All residents of the Talent area are invited to visit the li brary at those times and make selections of books and maga zines from the many available, she said. The new hours are al ready in effect.
