Gruenther, had read up so thoroughly on ileitis before his visit to the hospital that every one, including the doctors and the first family, was calling him "Doctor Gruenther." Reporters who watched the President as he left Walter Reed hospital noted a switch in the usual roles of husband and wife as he and Mamie descended the five steps from the hospital porch to waiting car. Mrs. Eisenhower, who does not like height and has difficulty on stairs, normally hangs on tightly to her husband's arm on any descent or ascent. This time, it was her arm that the President held tightly as they slowly and carefully walked down the stairs. On his arrival here, farmer Eisenhower found his herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle intact de spite a report to the contrary. The President's return to the farm means less of a trip for at least one item on his menu the farm grown peas which were among the first food he ate after his operation at the hospital.
