Old-Fashioned Camp Meeting in Brooks Oregon's twentieth annual Old-Fashioned Camp Meeting at Bethel . Gospel Park, Brooks, Oregon, will begin Monday, July 2 and continue daily through June 15, according to the Rev. N. D. Davidson, superintendent of the Oregon Assemblies of God, sponsors of the Camp Meeting. Evangelist for the meeting will be the Rev. U:00-THE PSALM OF THE WORD. 7:45 Evangelistic Hour. FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH North Central at Fifth Project Completed; Rev. Post Leaves Community Church The Rev. Ernest T. Post, who came to Medford two years ago to build and organize the Forest Acres Community Church, has completed the project, and will preach his farewell sermon this Sunday. A new minister is ex pected to assume his duties July 8. The land for the church was donated on condition the church remains non-denominational. At the present it is affiliated with the American Sunday School Union who supervises the church's operation and sees that ministers are supplied in co operation with the Forest Acres Community Church board. Many local firms donated lumber, materials and labor. The tract of land was given by the Elk Lumber Company, Ross Lumber Company, the Medford Millwork Company, and the Brill Metal Company. The church, on Table ' Rock road, is white frame. It i 32 by 48 feet, and includes four Sun day school rooms, a platform, and choir loft. Mr. and Mrs. Post plan to leave on a vacation next week Summer Program of Camping Starts The summer camping pro gram of the First Baptist church will begin this", week with a work day on July 4 and a men's retreat on July 8 through 8. The men's retreat will bring together the men's groups of the Conservative Baptist churches of Southern Oregon. The featured speakers for the threSday con ference will be Mr. Mark Hat field and Rev. James Braga. Hatfield, a state senator and the Republican candidate for Secre tary of State, is a lay leader in the First Baptist church of Sa lem. He is also Dean of Students and associate professor of politi cal science at Willamette univer sity. Mr. Braga, who was born and raised in China, is professor of Bible at Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland. The work day at the camp will be directed at preparing the fa cilities for the summer activi ties. A covered dish supper will be served to all who participate during the noon hour. The chair man of the board of the Union- Rogue Camp, which is located five miles beyond Prospect, is S. T. Brannock. Dr Clifford Miller To Be Guest Speaker Dr. Clifford Miller, professor of history at Southern Oregon college, will be guest speaker at the Presbyterian church. Hawaiian Minister At Local Nazarene The Rev. Joe Chastain will speak at the First Church of the Nazarene, Holly and First, Sun. day at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Chas tain is pastor of the Nazarene Church in Honolulu, Hawaii, and will show pictures of his work there. They will include some native religious shrines and gods. Mr. Chastain will also speak at the Prospect Chapel in the Pines Monday at 7:30 p.m.; in Phoenix Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and Grants Pass Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Church Cited For Achievement Year Eastwood Baptist Church, North Keene Way at Ridgeway, has been cited by the American Baptist Convention as the "church making the most progress-' during the year of Baptist Achievement in Oregon for churches having under 100 mem bers. The Year of Baptist Achieve ment was a year of special em phasis in the Sunday church school throughout the churches in the American Baptist Conven tion. Serving on the Year of Baptist Achievement committee besides Mrs. John Yungen, chairman. were: Mr. and Mrs. John John son. Only One Worship Service Sunday At Zion Lutheran Only one worship service will be held Sunday at tv.e Zion Lu theran church because of a spe cial schedule of fellowship. The service will be held at 8:30 a.m., followed by Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. At 11 a.m. a church picnic for members and friends of the congregation will be held at the Girl Scout Day Camp site. Widow Renews Fight On Gold Regulations Portland U.R) A widow who owns a gold mine she says would be worth 540,000,000 if she were allowed to sell at a reasonable unrestricted market value has renewed her fight against gov ernment gold laws and regula tions. Mrs. Gladys Laycock of Prairie City filed suit in Federal Court yesterday to enjoin Treasury Sec retary George M. Humphrey from enforcing regulations dat ing back to 1934 which put the price of gold at $35 an ounce. She claimed the gold price fixing order is without authority under any law or the constitution. Earlier this year Mrs. Laycock attacked the constitutionality of gold laws but was turned down without getting a directed rul ing on their validity in various courts. She contends she can't afford to work the mine at the present price of gold. FORMOSA FEELS TREMORS Tapei, Formosa U.R) A mod erate earthquake rocked north ern Formosa for 30 seconds to day. There were no reports of casualties or damage. H Vom611 Eisenhower Signs New Highway Bill Washington OI.PJ Presi dent Eisenhower today signed into law a $32.9 billion highway oenstruction bill, which includes new taxes to help pay for it. The 13-year construction pro gram includes a 41,000-mile inter-state highway network that will link every state and "most state capitals. The new taxes, including a cent a gallon increase in federal gasoline taxes and a three cents a pound tax on tires, takes ef fect Sunday. Mr. Eisenhower signed the bill in his suite at Walter Reed hos pital where he is recuperating from his recent abdominal oper- i ation. It was one of the pieces of "must" legislation he especially requested from Congress.
