Widow Renews Fight
On Gold Regulations
Portland U.R) A widow who
owns a gold mine she says would
be worth 540,000,000 if she were
allowed to sell at a reasonable
unrestricted market value has
renewed her fight against gov
ernment gold laws and regula
tions. Mrs. Gladys Laycock of Prairie
City filed suit in Federal Court
yesterday to enjoin Treasury Sec
retary George M. Humphrey
from enforcing regulations dat
ing back to 1934 which put the
price of gold at $35 an ounce.
She claimed the gold price fixing
order is without authority under
any law or the constitution.
Earlier this year Mrs. Laycock
attacked the constitutionality of
gold laws but was turned down
without getting a directed rul
ing on their validity in various
courts.
She contends she can't afford
to work the mine at the present
price of gold.
