TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Monday, June 23. 1956 Former Resident To Be In Cast of Television Show Dolores Gottfried (Mrs. Don) Berg, former Medford actress, will make her first Portland television appearance today on KPTV in "Carolina In The Mor ning." a play originally written for television in New York City and recently released to the au thor. Von Staurt. Following her portrayal of Margot Wendice in "Dial M" for Murder" at the Portland Civic theater in May, Mrs. Berg was invited to play the leading role of Linda Seton in Philip Bar ry's "Holiday" for the Civic Theater's Blue Room. The play will be given "In-the-round" at Gearhart on the Oregon coast in mid-July. "Holiday' is Mrs. Berg's first experience with arena style staging, although she appeared in Willamette university pro ductions, was a member of the 1933 Shakespeare Festival com pany in Ashland, and played a leading role of Daisy in the Medford Footlight's production of "Lo and Behold in 1954. While living in Medford and Ashland, Mrs. Berg was employ ed as continuity director at ra dio station KBOY. She is pres ently employed In the program and continuity departments of Portland's CBS radio affiliate KOIN. The Bergs plan to at tend the Shakespeare Festival the first week in August. ' Birthday Party Given For Men at Camp White Navy Mothers of America en tertained the Veterans of Camp White who had June birthdays at a party June 13. The women presented gifts of canteen books, cigarettes, and individual box es of home made candy. A large birthday cake and six smaller cakes and coffee were served. Mrs. C. Retired Teachers Hold Meeting at Home in Country Jackson County unit, Retired Teachers' association, held the last meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Tyrrell on Dead Indian road. Forty -three members and guests attended. enjoying not only the picnic luncheon but the drive up the valley and the new home of the hosts in its mountain and forest setting. Slides showing work done in the African mission field were shown by Miss Mable Tyrrell, niece of Mr. and Mrs. Tyrrell, who is home on furlough from her missionary work. During a business meeting plans were made for participat ing in the convention of Nation al Education association to be held in Portland in early July. Next meeting of this group will be held Monday, July 9, and will be a picnic in Lithia park, Ashland. Klamath Falls retired teachers will be guests. Carls will leave the Jackson ho tel at 12 noon. Fries and Mrs. Fries, Washing ton, D.C., were hosts for a din ner last evening at the Med ford hotel. General and Mrs. Fries, who both lived in the val ley as children and who were members of the 1893 graduating class of Medford High school, are on their annual visit to Med ford and are registered at the Medford hotel. Thirty-one members of the Wait and Fries families attend ed the dinner. Mrs. Fries is the daughter of the late Joseph Wait, who practiced medicine m the valley for many years. This noon General and Mrs. Fries were honored at a lunch eon given by Mrs. Volney Dix on, their niece, and Miss Beulah Warner. Mrs. Dixon, former Medford resident who spends the winters in Arizona and sum mers in Oregon, came from Roseburg for the luncheon. She is spending several weeks in Roseburg with her son and daughter-in-law. Among relatives whom the general and his wife are visit ing are his sister. Mrs. Etta Pur keypile. his, nephew, Archie C. Fries Jr., and Mrs. F. Wilson Wait. The couple will leave for Portland to visit the general's brother, Archie C. Fries. Rebekah Lodge To Visit Medford Dint fnr thi visit here- of the president of the Rebekah Assembly of Oregon were made at the last meeting of Olive Re bekah lodge. The omcer, am. Roy Gibbs of Oceanside, will visit Medford July IS. Mrs. Gibb will conduct an aft prnnnn conference at 3 o'clock at the IOOF hall, 221 West Sixth st. At 6:30 o ciock the lodge will hold a covered dish dinner at the hall for all members and guests. Initiation will follow. It was announced that Mrs. A. H. Gregory had been named deputy president oi uuve ne bekah lodge. Tieleeates who attended the recent state convention made their reports at the meeting. Giving the reports were Mrs. PVnn k Thanman. Mrs. Lewis Thompson, Mrs. Fred Daugh- erty and Mrs. uregory. The United States, Christian, Oregon and Canadian flags, and flags of the United Nations were used for decorations at the con vention. A total of 750 dele gates were registered, and the Rebekah degree was given to 133 candidates. Mrs. Edna Bradley, retiring president, was elected to rep resent Oregon to the Interna tional Association of Rebekah assemblies. The lodges were asked to help raise $600 to bring a Rebekah to this country from Holland. The local lodge has sent a do nation for this project. A total of $4,253 was given to last vear's president for her pro ject of aiding the Odd Fellows home at Portland, according to the reports. Given to the home were wheel chairs, two televis ion sets and a substantial con tribution towards construction of sidewalks. It was announced that Mrs. Minnie Bryant, local publicity chairman, will also serve as the state press representative. Mrs. Business Women Install Officers Miss Voda Brower was in stalled president of Medford Business and Professional Wom en's club in a ceremony held June 21 in the Ashland Elks' club dining room. Mrs. Michelle Rossi was installing officer. Miss Brower succeeds Mrs. Harriett Watson. Taking office with Miss Brow er were Mrs. Marian -Wood, first vice - president; Mrs. Georgia White, second vice-president; Mrs. Gertrude Blind, treasurer; Mrs. Muriel Burns, recording sec retary; Mrs. Jean Mast, corres ponding secretary; Mrs. Glenna Corson, auditor; Mrs. Frida Bur ger, Miss Laura York and Mrs. Watson, directors. Mrs. Mabel Mack, Corvallis, who served as president of the club in 1935-36, was among those attending. Mrs. Mack, who was home demonstration agent for the county for several years, is now one of the state home ex tension leaders. Mrs. Mack and other past presidents were hon ored during the evening. Alcorn scored 96 points to head winners for the last meeting of Medford Dupli cate Bridge club. Mrs. Jerry Mernin and Mrs. Richard Mile stone were second with 9OV2 points, and third went to B. L. Sanderson and T. J. Fuson with 86V4 points. Dollie Love was named to the good of the order committee, and Mrs. Floyd Murray, com munity service. W. H. Dyer showed colored pictures taken at the San Fran cisco zoo, and in national parks. Mrs. Grace Luman. Mrs. Elsie Lewis, Miss Caroline Leader served refreshments.
