Church Rites Marry Couple An 8 o'clock evening cere mony June 1 wedded Miss Ma linda Jane Robinson of Grants Pass and Alfred N. Johnson of Medford. The ceremony took place at the Wilderville Method ist church and was read by the Rev. Gerald Smith of the Reese Creek Community church. About 120 guests attended. Tie bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Robinson, route 1, box 402, Grants Pass, and the bridegroom Is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Johnson, 804 Cra ter Lake avenue, Medford. Miss Melba Carol Robinson, Oakland, Calif., was her sister's honor attendant. Truman Dean Collins was best man and ushers were Bob Min ter md Floyd Burg. Given in marriage by her fa ther the bride wore a nylon tulle dress, waltz length, with rhinestone trim. Her flowers were white carnations centered with an orchid. The honor attendant's gown was of pink taffeta with a white lace overskirt and was waltz length. She carried pink and white carnations and wore matching flowers in her hair. Bouquets of roses decorated the altar. Mrs. John Brunker furnished the wedding music and Miss Barbara Yost the songs. The reception was given at the church rooms. Roses were used to decorate the bride's ta ble and gift table. The couple made their wed ding trip to the coast and will live in Medford. The bride attended Grants Pass high school and is a beauti cian. The bridegroom is em ployed by Austin King in the logging industry. He attended Eagle Point high school. Medford Student To Be Graduated From Whitworth Mr. and Mrs. George Witter, 843 west Second street, are in Spokane, Wash., this week end and will attend graduation cere monies Monday, June 11 at Whitworth college. Their daugh ter. Miss Donna Witter, is to graduate with this year's class. She has been a major in educa tion and will teach this fall in the Parkrose school district. Portland. Miss Witter was cochairman of the May day festivities at her .school this year and was selected ' as a princess in the queen's court which ruled over the event. Central Medford Woman Makes Tour of Foreign States Mrs. S. D. Earhart, 11 North Peach street, arrived home Tues day evening after being away since February 28 on a tour of Europe. She left Amsterdam. Holland on June 2 and arrived June 3 in Portland by way of the polar flight. Flight time was 18 hours. Before arriving home Mrs. Earhart visited in Portland with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Earhart, and ar rived here by plane. The traveler embarked from New York City on the HMS Queen Elizabeth and arrived at Southampton, England. She tour ed London for five days and then crossed to Holland to visit The Hague and at Rotterdam. From there she traveled to Brussels, Belgium, and Stuttgart, Ger many, to visit her son-in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Her bert Herbert, and children, Lawrence Leslie, newly born, and Katie. While Mrs. Earhdrt was there her granddaughter observed her second birthday. Mrs. Earhart rejoined her tour party at Lucerne, Switzerland and continued into Austria, crossed the Brenner pass, visited at Innsbruck, Austria and then went to Venice, Italy where she stayed at the New Bauer hotel. The group with which she traveled arrived in Rome from Florence and spent five days in Rome, being there for Palm Sun day. Leaving there they traveled along the Italian and French Rivieras and visited Monaco. They made a tour of the palace of Prince Rainier, then being put in order for the arrival of Miss Grace Kelley and her wed ding to the prince. They also visited the famed Monte Carlo casino. The group arrived in Paris, France, in time to observe the Easter holiday and that day visit ed the Notre Dame cathedral. Mrs. Earhart then went again to Stuttgart to visit the Herberts and from there continued to Zurich, Switzerland to see friends she had known 26 years ago while living in Pennsylvania, Mrs. Hulda Alther and daugh ters. She also made a trip. to Bercht esgaden, Germany, and she visited Adolph Hitler's famed Eagles nest, and made trips to Salzburg. Austria, Chemese, Garish and Oberammergau. In the latter city she saw the well known site of the Passion plays. After visiting again at Stut tgart she left by plane for Am sterdam to make the flight home. An interesting event while visiting the Herberts was meet ing Mrs. Rosalie Murray, the ' former Miss Rosalie Ackley who was born and raised in Medford. Half the candy made in the U.S. contains chocolate. (Brainerd photos) West Side School Principal Honored at Large Tea Sunday Mrs. Bertha (Wallace) Haskins, principal at West Side school for the past nine years, was honored at a tea given last Sunday by Mrs. Hanley Heffernan at her home on Ross lane. Mrs. Haskins has resigned from her position at the school and later this summer will leave with Mr. Haskins for an extended stay in the east and in Europe. - ' Mrs. Heffernan has been chairman of the West Side sctiool board and other members of the board received with the hostess and honored guest. They are Francis Cheney, Walter A. Graff, William A. Salade, and Phillip Humphreys. About 125 guests attended. Pouring were Mrs. Cheney, Mrs. Salade, Mrs.' Graff and Mrs. Humphreys. Assisting- the host ess were Mrs. Edward Barry, whose husband has been clerk of the board, ' Mrs. Theodore F. Scanlan, Mrs, William Cochran, Mrs. Ernst Ludwig, Miss Mary Hanley and Mrs. Edward Leach. Among the guests were mem bers of the Oak Grove and Med ford district school board, their wives and husbands. Both West Side and Oak Grove schools have recently consolidated with the Medford district. Members of the Medford board are Ed Branch field, Otto Ewaldsen, Mrs. Steph en G. Nye, Frank Bash and Wil liam Barker. Members of the Oak Grove board are Keith Hockersmith, Wallace Brill, G. W. Kellington, Roy C. Elmgren and Edwin A. Olsen. Other guests included the school staff, Mrs. Pat Dolan and Ernst Ludwig, teachers, and Clyde Graham, custodian, as well as members of the budget committee, John C. Boyle, Ern est Niedermeyer. Eston Hum phrey, Allyn A. Monroe and Vic tor Kengla. Dr. Elmo Stevenson, president of Southern Oregon college, and Mrs. Stevenson as well as a num ber of college faculty members attended the tea. Mrs. Haskins belongs to a number of profes sional and civic groups, and rep resentatives of these were on the guest list. These include Medford Business and Professional Wom en's club, Toastmistress club, which Mrs. Haskins helped to found, Altrusa club, American Association of University Wom en, Delta Kappa Gamma, Jack son County Classroom Teachers' association and Jackson County Principals' association. Mrs. Has kins has served as president of a number of these groups. Mr. and Mrs. Haskins are founders of Up per Applegate Grange, and worked in that organization for a number of years. The Haskins came here from Fekin, 111., 21 years ago. Mrs. Sunday at har horns on Ross nine years, has resigned and a member of the school board. Haskins has taught in the Beav er Creek school, was principal of the Applegate school for a time, taught in the Medford system for three .years and resigned to be come principal of the Sams Val ley school, from where she went to the West Side school. The honored woman has worked in the Presbyterian church for a number of years, both in Pekin, 111., and in Medford, having founded the first daily vacation Bible school in Pekin. 1 - Guests Here Mr. and Mrs. Sid Pitman and Kathleen of Clear Lake, Wash., are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Troy Spaur, 2558 Bullock road. Johnson, 325 Vancouver avenue, arrived yesterday from Corvallis where she has completed her junior year at Oregon State college. Miss Johnson was accompanied by her fiance. Curtis McLoed of Coos Bay, also a student at OSC. The McLoed-Johnson wedding is set for June 23 at First Meth odist church, and the young peo ple plan to return to school in i ihefall. Mr, and Mrs. Arthur Hess, 224 Vancouver avenue, have re turned from Pullman, Wash., where they attended commence ment at Washington State col-i lege. Their son, William, re ceived his degree of doctor of veterinary medicine. The graduate attended Wil lamette university for two years, where he was affiliated with Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, before entering Washington State college. He is now at Davis, Calif, taking the state board examinations tor a Cal ifornia license. Upon comple tion of examinations there he will go to Portland to take the examinations before the Ore gon state board. His forthcoming marriage to Miss VaLee Ann Vogler of Los Altos is set for June 24 at Los Altos. After their honeymoon they will live at San Jose, ,Calif ., where Dr. Hess as accepted a position.
