V V Y 7 ' Mist Meredith Foot (Landis-Shangle photo) Miss Carol Denman (Brainerd photo) Two Medford Girls Receive Top Honors at Graduation Two girl graduate! of the 1956 class at Medford high ichool who received top honon in their class attended Medford schools their entire lives. They entered Roos evelt elementary school together and were close friends through out their school years. The girls are Miss Meredith Foote, daugh ter of Mrs. Ruth Foote, 18 Port land avenue, and Miss Carol Denman. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. K. G. Denman, 104 Geneva avenue. Miss Foote was valedictorian for the 1956 class and Miss Den man was given the honor of being named outstanding senior girl. Miss Denman received an Oregon State college honors at entrance award and Miss Foote received a tuition scholarship to the same college. Miss Foote has been identified with numerous high school ac tivities. This year she was sec retary of the Pep club and the International Relations league, was a member of the Chi Rho, Girls Athletic association. Girls league, HECA club, Latin club. Quill and Scroll, honorary journalistic group; was a mem ber of the prom committee, Phy Chem society, and Tri-Hi-Y. Miss Foote was an usher for three years, was a member of the Torch honor society and sales manager for this year's .Crater, year book. Miss Denman was queen of the rally squad this year and was a member of the squad as a junior; she received the Daugh ters of American Revolution good citizenship award this year, and was given honorable men- tion in the 1956 Elks lodge read ership contest. At student government day activities in Medford city hall she was city recorder for the day and this year was a member of the student council. Miss Denman was a member of the Torch Honor society for three years, and as a sophomore student held membership in the International Relations league, the ski club and HECA, the his tory, economics and civics asso ciation. In her senior year she also took a lead part in the senior play and was in this year's school operetta. As a junior Miss Den man was cochairman of decora tions committee for the school prom. One of the outstanding honors' Couple To Wed In Summer Rites Eagle Point Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Clymer, Eagle Point, an nounce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Miss Dorothy Louise Clymer, to Woodrow Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter T. Wil son of Santa Barbara, Calif. Tne bride-elect is a graduate of Eagle Point High school and a former student of Westmont college in Santa Barbara. She is now employed with Hardware Mutual Casualty company of that city. Her fiance attended Santa Barbara High school and works for Audio-Vision Company in Montecito, Calif. The wedding is scheduled for Friday evening, July 20, at the Neighborhood church in Santa Barbara with the Rev. Roy Peterson officiating. Parties Given For Nebraska Couple; Son in Michigan Mr. and Mrs. George Rasmus sen, Omaha, Neb., are in Med ford as guests of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Rasmussen Jr., 21 Acorn way. Friday evening the Rasmus sens were hosts for an open house which honored the visit ors, and a number of other small parties are being given to com pliment the visitors. They are leaving Tuesday. Bob Rasmussen, son of the Medford couple, is spending sev eral months in Holland, Mich., with relatives. This summer he is enrolled in summer classes at Hope college and is employed part-time in a bank. He will re turn to Stanford university in the fall. given Miss Denman was her se lection as a junior to make a Freedom foundation trip to Val ley Forge, Philadelphia and Washington, D. C, when the school had been awarded the honor from the foundation. Miss Denman also received an award from the Elks lodge for leadership. Hanson, 863 Marshall avenue, Medford, whose wed ding to Charles Roland Lewis took place June 3. The bride groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Lewis, Grants Pass. The ceremony was held at Val ley View Seventh Day Adventist church, with Elder Paul C. Heu back. College Place, Wash., of ficitiating. He is dean of theol ogy at Walla Walla college in College Place and is an uncle of the bridegroom. Soloists were Vern Hill, Mrs. Harvard H. Bresee and Joe Hoyt. . For her wedding . the bride wore a gown of white satin with overskirt of tulle and Chantilly lace designed with chapel length train and bodice of the lace. A pearl-trimmed headdress held her short veil of illusion net, and she carried a fan of white satin with stephanotis and an orchid. Miss Delores Shollenburg, fos ter sister of the bride, was hon or attendant. Miss Rose Marie Beltz, Miss Kathy McCarty and Miss Kathy Berntson, Coquille, Ore., were bridesmaids. Miss Shollenburg's gown was of pink frosted satin, ballerina style and the bridesmaids wore frock:, of blue frosted satin. All three at tendants wore matching head dresses of net and carried net fans with pink roses and steph anotis. Karen Lewis, Grants Pass, cousin of the bridegroom, was flower girl. She wore a frock of white dotted Swiss over blue, and carried a tiny fan with pink roses. Her headdress was of net. Richard Hanson, Medford, ne phew of the bride, was ring-bearer. The bride was given in mar I riage by her father, and Mervin Lewis, Grants Pass, was best man for his brother. Henry Mar tin, Grants Pass, Leonard Lewis, a cousin from Medford and Floyd Lewis, cousin from Grants Pass, were groomsmen. Seating the guests were Milton and Rich' ard Hanson, brothers of the bride, Zouhdi Derhalli and Earl and Hendrickson. The bride s mother wore a gown of mauve faille with white accessories and a white and pink orchid. The bridegroom's moth er was attired in a light blue lin en frock with lace bolero, white accessories and white orchid. About 300 guests attended the wedding and the reception which followed. White peonies with woodwardia ferns and can' delabra holding white tapers decorated the church. The Rogue River academy gymnas ium where the reception was held, was decorated with pink peonies and greenery. Pink cand les in silver holders stood on the refreshment table. Roses en circled the wedding cake. Mrs. George Beltz took charge of the reception and Mrs. Vern Hill, cousin of the bride, had ar ranged the reception program Roy Parmenter and Elder Edwin F. Coy sang, Mrs. Alvy L. Bow man gave a reading and the Misses Rose Marie Beltz, Patty Kenneday and Sally Jo Lindgren played accordion trio selections. Mrs. Macel Cartwrlght cut the wedding cake, assisted by " Mrs. Wallace Bradley, and pouring punch were Mrs. Richard Mor gan and Mrs. Donald Olson, twin aunts of the bride. . iur. and Mrs. Lewis made a wedding trip to Lake Tahoe, Yo- semite National park and San Francisco and will live in Grants Pass. Both young people have lived their entire lives in south ern Oregon, the bride in Med- lord ana tne bridegroom in Grants Pass. The bride was graduated from Rogue River academy with the class of 1955, and the bride groom, a graduate of Laurel- wood academy, is now attending Walla Walla college. Family Attends Yale Graduation; Wedding Day Set, Mr. and Mrs. Miner T. Bosh ears and son, Gary Lee Boshears, 408 South Grape street, are to arrive here Tuesday from New Haven, Conn., where the son will be graduated Monday, June 11, from Yale university. Mr. and Mrs. Boshears and son. Ken neth Boshears, who recently re ceived his discharge from the Army, left two weeks ago for the east. Kenneth Boshears will drive back the car in which they made the trip and his parents and brother will return by plane. They will arrive first in Port land where Miss Fidelia Boone, fiancee of Gary Lee Boshears, will meet them and return with them to Medford. Their wedding will be an event of June 17 in Medford. Miss Boone is in Portland this week end and last evening was maid of honor for Miss Janet Woolcutt at her wedding to Charles Heinrick. The young women are sorority sisters and all are are Oregon State college graduates. Recent events held in honor of Miss Boone include a dinner party and shower given by Miss Woolcutt and her mother, Mrs. Victor Woolcutt, in Portland; a shower given here by Mrs. Ken neth Hulbert, and an outdoor party and shower for which Miss Martha Boshears and Mrs. James Blalock, both aunts of the bride groom, entertained at the Bosh ears home on Grape street.. Betrothal News Told Last Week Announcement was made last week of the engagement of Mrs. Constance Stokes Skinner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rob ert Stokes, Foothills road, to Charles Allan Sams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Sams, 208 Vashti way.' The bride-elect formerly lived in Pasadena, Calif., and attended school there. Mr. Sams was grad uated from Medford High school in 1947, and has served in the United States Air Force for the past four years. Mr. Baker is employed with Medford Machinery company. The wedding date is set for June 24. The couple will live at Burny Falls, Calif. Nielsens Observe 25th Anniversary With Open House Mr. and Mrs. Albert C. Niel sen, Central Point - Jacksonville highway, observed 25th wedd ing anniversary Sunday, June 3 at open house held at their home between 2 and 6 p.m. The refreshment table was decorated with pink roses and white candles and Mrs. Nolan Biehler and Mrs. Robert Mull igan served the guests. About 6 friends called on the couple who received many gifts, nu' merous telephone calls and con gratulatory messages from rel atives in Upland, Neb., and Tuc son, Ariz. For the occasion, Mrs Niel sen wore a coral pink lace dress with a white carnation corsage. The Nielsens have two sons, Allan and Randall Nielsen, stu dents at Central Point schools. Couple Honored At Dinner Party Mr. and Mrs. Yngve S. Chris- tianson, who were married last month at St. Mark's Episcopal church, have returned from their wedding trip to the Hawaiian islands. Mrs. Christianson is the former Dorothy Myers Peirce. Shortly after their return home, the Christiansons were honored at a dinner given by Mr. and Mrs. Ben- Trowbridge, Mr. and Mrs. Justin Smith and Dr. and Mrs. B. L. Lageson at the Trowbridge home on East Main street. . Mr. and Mrs. Christianson will divide their time between their home here at 37 Valley View drive and their apartment in Oakland, Calif. Tell Engagement Of Two Students Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Archibald, 2451 Roberts road, announce the engagement of their daugh ter, Phyllis, to Eugene Richard Morse, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Morse of Nampa, Idaho. Miss Archibald, a graduate of Medford High school is a fresh man at George Fox college, Newberg, Ore. Mr. Morse is a sophomore at the same school. No date has been set for the wedding.
