tTX MSDTOBD fOBltJOW) MAIL TRIBOTK Summer Schedule To Begin Sunday Al First Baptist A wide variety of activities for every department will be available next week at the First Baptist church in a new sum mer schedule. All of the even ing services during the summer months will begin at 7:45 o'clock. On Sunday morning, the Rev. James Neely will base his ser mon on, "How Cod Meets Man's Needs," on the 51st psalm. The sermon will be another in the year-long series based on the Bible reading program of the church. The aim of the program is to read through the scriptures in a year. On Monday morning, the an nual Daily Vacation Bible school will begin. The school will be divided into two sessions with the nursery through the junior departments to meet at nine a.m., and the intermediate department meeting will be at 7 p.m. One of the features of this year's school will be an attendance contest in which a bicycle will be awarded to the pupil bring ing the most visitors during the two-weeks school. On Friday at 8: p.m., the film "Facts of Faith," produced by the Moody Institute of Science, will be shown, and is open to anyone interested. The First Baptist church is located at North Central ave. at Fifth st. Children's Day Services Slated Children's day will be rec ognized in the First Presbyterian church, when a number of child ren will be baptized at the 11 a.m. Dr. D. K. West will speak on the subject, "Children Are Peo ple, Too," a part of a series of sermons on, "What Makes Our Homes Truly Strong." Twenty-five senior high stu dents will leave in the afternoon for the week-long Presbyterian Youth conference, at the Lake of the Woods. Allan Lehl will conclude his services as director of the choirs of the First Presbyterian church, and will lead the Chancel and Westminster choirs. Bruce Weber, who has return ed from San Francisco Theol ogical seminary will speak at the evening service on, "The Wonders of God." Robert Brew er will conduct the worship serv ice at 7: p.m. Friends To Open Vacation School Daily Vacation Bible school will open Monday at the Friends church, to be held for two weeks, each week day from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Two buses will furnish trans portation, one route to run through Med ford and the Lone Pine area and the other out Table Rock rd. and through Central Point. Parents may call telephone 2-6926 to arrange for children's transportation. The school is for children from four years up through the 8th grade. A staff of 25 is prepared to handle administration and teaching in four departments. Any child is invited to attend. The day schedule will in clude Bible teaching, memory work, music, handcrafts, work books and games. All depart ments will be coordinated under the theme. "Adventuring with Christ in the King's Adventure- land. Couple To Speak Of South American Missionary Work The Pioneer Missionary Broad caster, located in the Andes mountains of South America, will be the topic of talks and films at a meeting at Free Meth odist church today at 7:45 p.m. Mrs. and Mrs. Kermit Beougher, former Medford residents, now working with the broadcasting system, will speak of their ex periences and work of the sta tion. The station is the oldest mis sionary broadcasting system in the world, according to church officers. It has been operated since Christmas day, 1931. on a 50.000 watt short wave transmit ter with world coverage. The couple were personal friends of the five missionaries who were killed Jan. 8 in Ecua dor and will also speak of them. First Services Scheduled Sunday In Gold Hill Church Gold Hill The first services to be held in the new First Christian church at Gold Hill are set for Sunday, June 10. Sunday school will open at 9:45 a.m., and church services are slated for 11 a. m. The Rev. Gilber Cays, evan gelist, and the new minister of the church, the Rev. MAPLE FURNITURE and LAMPS Nazarene Pastor . i To Be Delegate I At School Session The Rev. Raymond W. Hurn, pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene, will leave with his family, accompanied by Mrs. Dora Mae Shepard and her daughter, Marilyn,, for Kansas City, Missouri, June 11 to attend church schools convention of the denomination. The conven tion to be conducted June 14 to 16 will precede the quadrennial general assembly of the church, to begin on June 17 and last through June 22. The Rev. Mr. Hurn is a mem ber of the Oregon-Pacific district church school board, and will serve as an official delegate from Oregon to the convention. Mrs. Dora Mae Shepard, who teaches the 2 grade at Wash; ington school, will be a work shop leader in Vacation Bible school work at the Convention. For many years she has directed the Vacation Bible School of the Medford Church and of other churches. She will also serve in Sunday school workshop ses sions held concurrently with the General Assembly in Kansas City. She will lead discussions on "How to Improve the Teach, ing in our Sunday School. During the absence of the pastor, the Rev. LeRoy Harris will speak here. The Hurns plan to be gone until Sunday, July 1. Dr. M. R. Zigler To Speak Sunday Dr. M. R. Zigler, well known member of the Church of the Brethren, will be the morning speaker at the Medford Church of the Brethren, Sunday. Dr. Zigler, is at the present, a member of the central com mittee of the World council of Churches. He is director of the Brethren service commissions relief, and rehabilitation pro gram in Europe and represents the Church of the Brethren at the World Council of Churches in Geneva, Switzerland. Along with the work in his denomination, Dr. Zigler has been greatly interested in the interdenominational activities of many organizations and move ments, among them, the Home Missions council of North Amer ica, the International council of Religions education, the Fed eral Council of Churches, Na tional Service Board for Reli gious Objectors. Church World Service, CARE, CRALOG, the Rural Life association, and the World Council of Churches He was a delegate to the world-wide religious conferences at Edinburgh and Oxford 1937, and to the Amsterdam As sembly of the World Council of Churches in 1948 and was one of ,. the representatives of the church of the Brethren to the World Council Assembly at Evanston in 1954. In addition to his extensive travel in Europe since 1945, he visited China and Japan in 1947 and India in 1953. Friends Engage Assistant Pastor Orville Winters, NCwberg, has been engaged to serve as as sistant pastor for the Friends church during the summer months. A graduate of George Fox college, Mr. Winters has attended A s b u r y Theological seminary, Wilmore, Ky., the past year and pastored the American Avenue Community church, Lex ington, Ky., while a student there. He is living at the Friends parsonage, and will assume full pastoral duties during July while Mr. and Mrs. Clynton Crisman take an extended vaca tion trip to the east. In addition to preaching, Mr. Winters' duties at the church will include direct ing music, teaching in Vacation Bible School, supervising youth activities, office work and visita tion. Pastor To Leave . For Conference The Rev. G. E. Walston of the Advent Christian church plans to leave Monday for Alton Bay, N .H., to attend a national con ference of the denomination. He will be away for about five weeks and will visit in New York City with a son, G. B. Wals ton. The minister will stop route east at Detroit, Mich take delivery of a new car route west he will go by southern route and visit en to En the the Grand canyon. At Santa Cruz, Calif., he will serve as a delegate from the national meeting at a northwest conference. . The Hot. G. A. Trobough Naw Associate First Methodist Associate Pastor Assumes Duties The Rev. George A. Trobough has assumed duties as associate minister of the First Methodist church. He was appointed to the position by Bishop A. Raymond Grant at the closing session of the Oregon annual conference of Methodist church. The Rev. Mr. Trogough is a graduate of Hendrix college, Ark., and Boston university School fo Theology. Previous pastorates have included the Salem Methodist church, Con way, Ark, the Flint Street Meth odist church, Sommerville, Mass., and the First Methodist church, St. Helen's. Ore., where he served from 1951 until com ing here. While in St. Helens he 'served as chairman of the Columbia county apprenticeship committee, chairman of the Juvenile protec tion committee. President of the Lower Columbia Ministerial Fel lowship, and was a member of the occupational and industrial survey committee. The Rev. Wilson: WON'T TELL AGE New York (U.PJ Mrs. Muriel Nicholson stirred up a little con fusion in the Motor Vehicles Bureau four years ago when she gave three dlifferent birth dates on as many different applica tions to register three different cars. In a separation action Thursday, Mrs. Nicholson told the judge she was 38. But two years ago she told another court "she was 'born in- 1916 which made her 40 now. William C. Pipe Minister Litfht 51 School To Begin At Nazarene Church Vacation Bible school of the First Church of the Nazarene, Holly and First sts., will get under way at 9: a.m., Monday, June 11. The two-week school will hold sessions from 9 until 11:45 a.m. daily Monday through Friday, June 11 through June 22. General superintendent for the school is Mrs. Vivian Starkey. Selected as the superintendent in January, she and her staff of supervisors and teachers have been working for several months in preparation for the annual Bible School. Ingathering funds, received at this season through most of the United States, are used by the church for worldwide uplift work. School in Session At Forest Acres A Daily Vacation Bible school is being conducted at Forest Acres Community church. Table Rock rd., two miles south of Tou Velle park, and one block east in Forest acres. Attendance is made up of approximately 50 students and classes are enlarged bv additional attendance daily, officers stated. The sessions are 1V4 hours in length and each class has its own project developed by their teachers. The classes are for children age three through 11. Included in the classes are studies, flannelgraph, and Bible stories, rythm band work, sing ing, outdoor activities, visual aids, scrap books, and other ac tivities. Refreshments are served. Transportation can be ar ranged through the church. Mrs. Ernest F. Post, wife of the pastor, leader for the school. All children in the district are in vited. The school will close June 15. First Christians To Conduct Classes; School Opens Monday The Daily vacation Bible School of the ' First Christian church will be held at the church, June the 11 through June 22. Mrs. Yvonne Haggard will be the superintendent. Class es will be lor kindergarten, pri mary, and junior departments. Mrs. Betty Templeman will be in charge of the junior depart ment, Mrs. Thelma Smith liead of primary, and Mrs. Beulah Warren will be in charge of the kindergarten. Mrs. Alice Hood will be in charge of the publicity. The school will be held daily from 9. a.m. to 11:30 a. m. A program is being planned for the close of the school.
