Girl Scouts Hold Court At School Three girls received the curved bar award at the annual court of awards of the Griffin Creek Girl Scout neighborhood, held May 21 in the school cafe teria. The curved bar award, the highest for Intermediate Girl Scouts, was completed by Bar bara McCormick, Jean Heide mann and Janice Evernham. To earn the badge they completed proficiency badges in homemak ing, foods, clothing, nutrition nd good grooming. They are members of troop 33, led by Mrs. J. Edgar Moir and Mrs Arvid Althens. Troop 33 is made up of girls from the sixth, seventh and eighth grades and several profi ciency badges were earned by the other members. Badges in drawing and painting, adventur er and cyclist were presented to Verna Adams, Sandra Althens, Cathy Althens, Diane Evern ham, Janet Kelly. Nancy Kime, Kay Miller, Judy Maxson, Mar gie Moir, Jackie Eummel, Nola Shurtleff and Teresa Six. Mem bers of Troop 33 also presented the candlelight ceremony during the recitation of the laws and promises. They also sang. Troop 37, fourth grade, led by Mrs. Rex Johnson, sang before the fly-up ceremony. Flying-up were Linda Romanchek, Nicki Ober, Patricia Lindsay and Christine Helman. Donna Thompson was elected Commander for the coming year. Others elected to fill offices were Gloria Thompson, senior vice commander; Annette Jones, jun ir vice commander; Judy Guss, chaplain; Dorie Mae Grissom, adjutant; Jacqueline George, treasurer; Jo Carol Grissom, con ductress; Paulette Simmons, pa triotic instructor; Cynthia Sim mons, sergeant-at-arms. Mrs. Everett Grissom and David Grissom were visitors. The members decided to have a picnic at Hawthorne park June 9. Jo Carol Grissom and Nina Grissom served refreshments. Donna Thompson, Reporter and Constance Patterson of Troop 80. fifth grade. Troop 80, led by Mrs. Richard Ball, explained how they ful filled the requirements for earn ing the second class badge. Re ceiving the award and year pins were Delores Ball, Connee Har ris, Karen Mathern, Sylvia Mer ritt, Constance Patterson, Carole Sacchi, Margo Shreve, Teresa Steinback and Linda Young. Troop 157, second grade Brownies, sang a Brownie song and received year pins. Those in the troop receiving pins were Judy Barnum, Patricia Clark, Marlene Lindsay, Debbie Luehrs, Charlene McCormick, Earlene McKenny, Maurine McNiel, Al lison Mode, Janet Olufsen, Mari lyn Peters, Ginger Ricks, Ellen Shurtleff, Janet Walker, Mary Ellen Wright, Judy Youmans, Karen Waldren, and Jonnie Six. The leaders are Mrs. Harold Ricks and Mrs. Hugh Shurtleff. During the flag ceremony, Kay Miller was color bearer and Jean Heidemann and Barbara McCormick were color guards. The salute was led by Judy Maxson. She also led the audi ence in the singing of "Amer ica." . Sorority Closes Year's Activities With Installation Final meeting of Epsilon chap ter of Delta Kappa Gamma for the past school year was held at the home of Mrs. Merle Wood ward in Grants Pass May 19. During the business meeting correspondence was read from the state officers and others ex pressing their thanks to Epsilon chapter members "for their hospitality and fine planning" shown in the recent state conven tion held in Medford. Miss Florence Allen announced that Miss Wilma Bench had been selected to receive the Epsilon chapter scholarship. Miss Bench will be a junior in teacher edu cation at Southern Oregon col lege. This is the tihrd year she has received the $150 scholar ship. The new officers were in stalled. They are president, Mrs. Alice Ottis, Grants Pass; first vice-president, Mrs. Alice Willits, Ashland; second vice-president, Miss Anna Laura Honts, Med ford; recording secretary, Mrs. Gladys Sloan, Phoenix; corres ponding secretary, Mrs. Merle Woodward, Grants Pass; treas urer, Miss Vida Scripter, Ash land; parliamentarian, Mrs. Es ther Fliegel, Medford. The past president's bar was presented to Mrs. Kathryn Stan cliffe, the retiring president. Gifts were presented to two members who are leaving. Miss Flora Stokoe will be leaving for California, and Miss La Moille Pugh to Portland. During the refreshment hour, pictures of the recent conven tion were shown by Miss Honts. It will be held Monday, May 28, at 2:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Final business of the year will include adoption of the 1956-57 budget, and last reports of com mittees. Mrs. John Benson, Med ford, parliamentarian of the Ore gon Congress of Parents and Teachers, will conduct the in stallation. Taking office will be Mrs. Charles Ward, president; Mrs. Gerald Parson, vice-president; Mrs. Abner Clark, secretary and Mrs. Lawrence P. Crocker, treas urer. Robert Taylor, retiring presi dent, will be awarded a past president's pin by Sharon S. Eichelberger, past president. The Oak Grove school chorus, under the direction of Hugh Shurtleff, will sing several num bers. Accompanist is Shirley Hopkins.
