EIGHT MEDFORD (OREGON) Mounted Posse and Troop Hold Field Day Program About 75 persons attended a County Mounted Sheriffs posse Mounted troop, auxiliary. There auxiliaries from Douglas, Josephine and Jackson counties The troop served dinner Sat urday evening at the club house and music for dancing was fur nished by Vona Parker, J. L, Parker. Ray Ashcraft, Gene Lowe and Lanny Bogenoff, A number of the group slept out of doors at the grounds and Sunday morning a buckaroo breakfast was served to about 100 guests. Ronnie Eastgate, Frank Peter- eon, Carl Weisbroad and Dave Askins, students of the Forest Chapman Guitar studio, fur nished music for the breakfast. ' The field day activities began at 1 o'clock in the arena and each event was participated in by both men and women The week end activities were held to create a closer relation ship between the groups and Grants Pass auxiliary members plan a similar event in the near future. Prizes Awarded Prizes were awarded for the various events In the matched pairs class Jo sephine county members were in first place with the award going to Howard Wirty and Mrs. Sam Ray; Jackson county was second with Gary Gustafson and Mrs. Frank Christian, as the 'winners and taking third for Jo . sephine county were Sam Ray and Mrs. Ann Duke. In a stake race Jerry Fuller- ton and Miss Judy Steele of Douglas county took first; John Shama and Miss Montana Emer son, Jackson county, second; and Gary Brown and Miss Ver n a Dudley, also of Jackson county, third. The matched fours event went to Howard Wirty and Mrs. Ray and Ed Reed and Mrs. Hazel Lawrence, Douglas county, first; Everett Parton and Miss Judy Rone, and Norman Wells and Miss Norma Thiele, Douglas county, second; and Ray Vague and Mrs". Going through the trail horse obstacles to win first were the Sam Rays, Josephine; Gary Gustafson and Mrs. Dodge, Jack son, second; and John Heckert and Mrs. George Dean, Jackson, third. Two Groups Hold Dinner Meeting Colonel Sargent camp and auxiliary, United Spanish War Veterans, met at the Redman hall May 20. A potluck. dinner was- served by Mrs. Frank Wid ner, Mrs. Ralph Atwood, Mrs. Harry Barnebure. Mrs. Elizabeth Johnston and Mrs. Hans Ram- min. Mrs. E. Al Littrell, chairman of all services, presided. Speakers giving the orienta tion were Eugene Thorndike, chapter chairman, Leroy Wil liams, chairman of first aid, Mrs. J. W. Burba, chairman blood program, Mrs. O. A. Eden, vice chairman disaster, Mrs. Frank Fairweather, volunteer field con sultant, Elliott Becken, second vice-chairman. Mrs. Chris Zink, representative of state blind commission; Mrs. Helen A. Wil son, executive secretary; Man ville Heisel, fund raising chair man and the Rev. Michalas Deis who spoke on "Spirit Of Serv ice." , Presentation of the various services offered by Red Cross, in this county were given by Mrs. Robert Keeney, Mrs. R. G. Bard well, Mrs. Harry P. Poston, Mrs. Maurice Spatz, Mrs. T. R. Florey, Mrs. Richard W. Gordon and Mrs. Frank C. Preston. New recruits were Mrs. Wil liam W. Wood, Mrs. H. L. Bush, Jr. Mrs. Alex Dumas, Mrs. Earl B. These volunteers will serve in the blind and blood programs, Gray Lady service at Camp White, production of comfort articles, direction in crafts, staff aide and home service. Mrs. Martin Luther and Mrs. Aimee Deuell were responsible for the recruitment and pre sentation of training for this class. The meeting was concluded with serving of buffet luncheon. Mrs. John S. Day, Medford mem ber of the Pacific Area council, poured. Nurses Conduct . Two Institutes District 4, Oregon State Nurses' association, held two nursing institutes in May. The first was an institute on "Neuro surgery" and the speaker was Dr. James C. Luce. Following his talk, Mrs. Phyllis Schroeder gave demonstrations of nursing procedures peculiar to this field of nursing. The second institute was on "Anesthesia" and "Venipunc ture," and the speaker was Dr. David C. Boals. Assisting that evening were Mrs.. Schroeder, Mrs. Eileen Valentine and Miss Eleanor Bragg. General chairman for the in stitutes was Miss Gertrude Mol loy and both were held at Sa cred Heart hospital. About 35 registered nurses attended each institute and felt them to be most enjoyable and educational. The latest edition of Emily Post's "Etiquette" describes prep arations for the most elaborate as well as the simplest weddings. Another book that dwells on the same subject is "Vogue's Book of Etiquette." The family with an engage ment or wedding to plan might turn to "Successful Entertaining at Home," by Carolyn Coggins. Authoritative information guides in the selection of china, glass ware and silver. Amelia Hill's "The Complete Book of Table Setting," provides information on the accepted customs and best practices of table setting, serv ice, etiquette and flower ar rangement. Other related books include "Let's Set the Table," by Elizabeth Lounsbery and Char lotte Adam's "Home Entertain ing." For the inevitable flurry of showers, friends might turn to Helen Webster's "Shower Par ties for All Occasions," which contains many ideas for honor ing the bride-to-be. The "Cokes bury Shower Book," is another source of good ideas. Prospective service brides will do well to heed the advice of fered in "The Army Wife," by Nancy Shea. It offers a readable and informative word picture of Army life from the woman's point of view. For the bride who expects to work after mar riage, a recent book called "Housekeeping After Office Hours," by Charlotte Adams, may be useful. Other books the bride might look into, include "Decorating on a Budget," by Elizabeth Ogg; House and Gar den's "Complete Guide to In terior Decorating," and the "Good Housekeeping Cook Book," edited by Dorothy B. Marsh. i Officers Named By Medford Unit Medford unit of Jackson Coun ty Public Health association held election of officers for the com ing year during a meeting last Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Sam Gilbert. Heading the organization for the 1956-57 year will be Mrs. Frank Tamney as chairman, Mrs. Richard Phair as secretary and Mrs. Bayard Getchell as treasurer. A brief business meet ing was held after the election of officers. Retiring officers are Mrs. Gil bert and Mrs. R. B. Knight, co chairmen, Mrs. L. C. Burt, secre tary and Mrs. Getchell, treas urer.
