' V-' ff ( mmk I ma h Newlyweds Arrive Here; Ceremony in McMinnville Newcomers to this vicinity are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grayson Balk, whose wedding was an event of May 6 at the First Bap tist church in McMinnville. The bride is the former Miss Peggy Ann East, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John East of McMinnville and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Balk of Portland. The bridegroom is assistant to Paul Hornbeck, manager of the Medford office of J. Henry Helser and company. The ceremony was perform ed at 3 o'clock in the afternoon A group of Medford woman, all charter members of Rogue River Valley College Women's club, were honored at a meeting of the club held May 12 at the home of Mrs. Ar thur Peters, Ashland. The club was organized in 1913 at a luncheon meet ing at the Medford hotel and has had more than 2000 members during the intervening years. (Memory Lane photo) Family Reunion Held by Ivies Several valley persons were in Salem last Sunday to attend a family reunion of the Merle Ivie , family, former Medford resi dents who now live in the north ern city. 1 At the event were their four sons and families, Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. Ivie and sons, Lynn and Donald, Madford; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ivie, Central Point and Mr. Ivie's son, Jerry Lee Ivie, Portland; William Ivie, Sa lem, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ivie of Swansboro, N.C. Other members of the family present included Mr. and Mrs, Lloyd Ivie and son-in-law, and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Wells, and children. Michael and Myron Lee, Salem; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Ivie, Creswell, and son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Ivie and son, Alan of Albany. Mrs. I. S. Taylor, mother of Mrs. Richard Ivie, also from Swansboro, was a guest. The event was held at the Salem Women's club house. Visits Daughter Mrs. Ralph Cook.Route 3, will return today from Eugene where she was the guest of her daugh ter, Barbara, for Junior week end at the University of Oregon. Miss Cook, a junior, is a member of Sigma Kappa sorority and of the national music sorority, Mu Phi Epsilon. Charter Members of Club Honored at Last Meeting Charter members of the Rogue River Valley College Women's club were honored at a meeting held Saturday, May 12, in the home of Mrs. Arthur Peters, 1150 Ashland avenue, Ashland. The club was organized in 1913 at a luncheon held in the Medford hotel. There were 62 charter mem bers, and seven of these, includ ing one of the two founders, at tended the luncheon in Ashland. The founders were Miss Ruth Merrick, who later was Mrs. Ray mond Caufield, and Miss Theone Carkin, later Mrs. Glenn Taylor, and the latter was present, for the recent event. ; Other charter members pres ent were Mrs. Aletha Emerick Vawter, Mrs. I. D. Canfield, Mrs. E. E. Gore, Mrs. James Camp bell, Mrs. Olen Arnspiger and Miss Jane Snedicor, all Medford. Mrs. Alice Willits, longtime member of the club and well known Ashland teacher, gave . a resume of the organization's his tory. She stated that one of the chief projects of the club, organ ized to unite all college-educated women, whether graduates or not, has been assistance to girls wishing to enter college. This aid was first in the form of loans, and now the club gives an an nual scholarship. This year's scholarship was presented to Miss ' Robbie Sue Eudey, who will attend Southern Oregon college, the presentation being made by Mrs. G. C. Van at jeaim Jiairit's "Rosebud Print" by f 1 Valzah. The club has also promoted the cultural and civic life of the county, members have kept abreast of current events with programs keyed to the times and conditions. Members took the lead in organization o f t h e YWCA in Medford, which later became Girls' Community club. In 1922 members started issuing a publication called The Colleg ian with Mrs. James Campbell as the editor. This was published on newsprint, although hand written. It is estimated that the club has had more than 2000 mem bers in its 43 years of existence. The current membership is about 100 members. Mrs. Gore reminisced about the time the famous actress, Maude Adams, visited Medford and was presented a box of pears. Bernard Windt provided musi cal . entertainment, playing a group of cello numbers with his wife as accompanist. Miss Bertha Stephens, presi dent, conducted a business meet ing; she welcomed guests and several new members. Officers for the coming year were - elected, with Mrs. Ben Schmidt, Medford, named presi dent. Other new officers are Mrs. J. W. Murray, vice-president; Mrs. Amos Willitts, treas urer; Mrs. H. S. Chirgwin, Med ford, secretary. Serving refreshments were Mrs. F. Dickey, Mrs. N. H. Dil lon, Mrs. G. A. Green, Mrs. C. W. Koyl, Mrs. C. E. McCollister, Mrs Emil Peil, Mrs. A. C. Peters, Miss Ethel Reid and Mrs. Amos Willits. The last meeting for the year will be held June 9 at the home of Mrs. R.' W. Frame, Phoenix. Shower Is Given For Recent Bride Mrs. Keith Ayers, 29 North Ivy street, was guest of honor at a bridal shower given last week by her husband's mother, Mrs. Amos Ayres, Mrs. Clifford Ayres and Mrs. Clinton Ayres at the Amos Ayres home, 3434 Table Rock road. The honored guest is the former Miss Joyce Reeves, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Canterbury, Rogue River, Guests included the Mesdames George Gillman, Chester Irish, Carl Childreth, Claude Holmes, Jack King, Gordon Koehler, Harold Koehler, Gene Goff , Arch Hodge, Fred Canterbury, Stanley Kee, the bride's sister; Mrs. Carl Ratzat, Earl Brewold, H. O Childreth, Percy Haley, W. I. Childreth, Lynn Hickman, Wil mer Robertson, and hostesses. The Ayres' wedding was an event of May 5. The rooms were decorated with pink and white streamers and white bells. Mrs. Clifford Ayres made the favors which were miniature white satin pillows with sprigs of lily of the valley and imita tion wedding rings. . - Games were played and the bride was presented miscellanous gifts. Refreshments were served'. Bride-Elect Guest At Shower Party Mrs. Mabel Vanderpool was honored at a shower given May 15 by Mrs. Elza Santo at her home, 616 South Ivy street. Her wedding to Lester Lynch, Med ford, has been set for June. Refreshments were served, and Mrs. Albert Henderson poured. Friends attending the shower and party were Mrs. Don Garner, Mrs. Zonja Albertson with child ren Debbie and Mike, Miss Ruby Shelby, Mrs. Karl Knutson, Mrs. Arlis Cowan, .Mrs. Ernest Santo, Mrs. Linn De Bord, Mrs. Erma Clutter, Miss Roberta Clutter, Mrs. Ray A. Anderson, Mrs. Rob ert Walker, Mrs. Marie Randel, Mrs. William Burke, Mrs. Wil liam Jeffery,, Mrs. Joseph Smith and daughter Cherie Ann and Mrs. Henderson. 4 . , Scottish Rite Women Hold Social Meeting Scottish Rite Women met at their club rooms in the Masonic temple May 13. Mrs. B. H. Lind ley was a guest. The men joined the women for coffee and dessert after the meeting. Members are asked to send cards to Mrs. Victor Viers, Grants Pass, who is ill. - Mrs. James' Pree will be guest speaker, talking on "The Tour ist One of the Valley Industries." by the Rev. Paul Little of Berk eley, Calif. About 400 guests attended. Miss Carolyn Courtemanche was honor attendant. Miss Jan Bennett, Miss Arlene East, a sister of the bride, Mrs. Dale McLellan, a sister of the bride groom, and Mrs. Salli Luato were bridesmaids and brides matrons. Linda East, also a sister of the bride, was flower girl and a nephew of the bridegroom, Scott McLellan, served as ring bearer. Lennard Mascall, Portland, was best man. Ushers were Paul Jeans and Norm Wright, both of Portland, Craig Singletary, , McMinnville, and Dale McLellan, San Mateo, brother-in-law of the bride groom. . The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a floor length gown of scalloped nylon tulle embroidered with flowers. A headdress of orange blossoms en circled the bride's chignon and held her illusion veil. She car ried white roses with yellow mal'ine. The honor attendant was dressed in yellow organdy with white embroidered flowers and she wore a white garden haf. Her bouquet was of talisman roses. The bridesmaids and mat rons wore combed yarn dresses embroidered with yellow flow ers and yellow garden hats. Their ( white May baskets were filled with yellow roses. The flower girl's dress was of yellow organdy with ' white embroidered flowers.' She also wore a white garden hat and carried a miniature May basket of yellow roses. Candlelighters were Miss Pat Peavey and Miss Mary Ellen Terrell, who wore white gowns with yellow embroidered roses and matching yellow sashes. The reception . was held in the fireplace room of the church. Mrs. Anne Six and Miss Ideolette Needham had charge of serving coffee and punch. ' Registering the guests was Miss Mary Lou Schroeder and cutting and serv ing the cake were Mrs. Joyce Mascal and Mrs. Louise Court emache. Gifts were received by Miss Nancy Terrell. The bride was employed as a secretary and she attended Mc Minnville high school. lne bridegroom attended Tigard high school and Oregon State college. Royal Neighbors Give Shower for Miss Van Galder Jacksonville At a social meeting of . the Jacksonville Royal Neighbors May 15, a mis cellaneous bridal shower was eiven in honor of Miss Darlene Van Galder of Central Point, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Van Galder. Miss Van Galder is betrothed to Harold Jordan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Quinton Jordan of Jacksonville, and the wedding date has been set for June 9. Attending the shower were 52 Royal Neighbor members and other guests, who presented Miss Van Galder many gifts. Refresh ments were served. Spring ' flowers, a bride doll and yellow tapers decorated the bride's table. Serving on the committee were Mrs. Joe Mcln tyre, Mrs. Stanley Forbes, Mrs. Rupert Maddox Jr., and Mrs. Elmer Adams. Order of Eastern Star, meets Thursday, May 24, at 8 p.m. at the Masonic hall. There will be initiation and the annual memorial service. Mrs. Reese Alexander and Mrs. Warren Lesseg are chair man and co-chairman for re freshments, i Prospect Women Organize Club Prospect Organization of a federated garden club took place at the Prospect home of Mrs. Willard Huffman on April 23. The group was assisted by Mrs. A. O. Floyd, district director of Oregon. Officers elected were, Mrs. Everett Shafer, president; Mrs. John Gartman and Mrs. O. Barr, first and second vice-presidents; Mrs. John Davidson and Mrs. Marcus Dey. secretaries; and Mrs. Ralph Parton, treas urer. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, May 22, at 1 o'clock at the Shafer home with Mrs. Gartman and Mrs. A. V. McKil lop, serving as hostesses. Mrs. William Shepherd, Shady Cove, will talk on flower arrangement. Prospective members are asked to take money for their dues.
